I have a pair and love them! Having said that, they are a mid level sub, and there's definitely more powerful subs out there. But they are light weight, and pretty decent for the price, size, and weight. They are really well protected, and have EV Quality sound and build. Really good for beginner to average DJ. For large school dances and that kind of thing, it might be more worth looking at EKX or ETX instead.
All of the models are pro subs. I would use the ELX for beginners, weddings or parties of 100 people or less. The EKX is a step up. I can see a pro wedding DJ who does midsized rooms and events going for this model. If your normal events are up to 250 then one or two of these subs will be well worth it. This is for the DJ who makes a living doing events. The ETX would be great for a DJ or band who plays larger events on a regular basis. We are talking school dances, outdoor events and so on. Get these if you can see yourself doing shows of 400 to 500 people.
@@13bcoffeeBut they don’t have a great difference in SPL. The ELX have 132db and the ETX are only 2db more. (134db spl) I have a pair of Peavey’s PV118D, and they are 119db spl only. I’m thinking to buy one Elx200 18sp and sell the Peaveys
There is more to selecting a speaker than SPL. Also that 2db could be the difference in whether the speaker clips and distorts or not. When selecting pro speakers I consider things like whether or not I am taking them on the road in a truck or trailer. Build quality becomes really important then. We are talking tougher cabinets and better drivers and amps. So ETX line is it. For most DJs the lighter EKX line is good enough for school dances and weddings. The ELX line is the entry level. It's more affordable and certainly is up to doing weddings and parties.

How is the sub doing? Also how would you compare it to the EKX line? (EKX-15sp and EKX-18sp). Spec-wise it goes to 47Hz and 132dB against 45Hz and 133dB on the EKX-15sp and 40Hz/134dB on the EKX-18sp.
Hello! So far since the whole COVID-19 pandemic had begun, I have not really had the opportunity to use it for shows or anything really. Occasionally I'd play with it at home, but in regards of comparison to the ones you've mentioned, I haven't heard those yet!! What I like to tell people is that 1) any speaker you buy has to match the needs you want them for; live instruments/band or DJ related use. 2) I believe each speaker has it's own unique sound that (refer to #1) depends how you use them. If there is not a video out there, I would definitely check them out in person at your local Guitar Center or music store to see which one would work for you! Overall, EV's are a great brand and will definitely serve you well!
They are pretty impressive, video can’t possibly capture it…. I’ve got 2 and don’t play them all that loud, but they are clear and fairly snappy for 18s… big plus is they are compact and lighter than most while still putting out a decent amount of power… not saying they are the best of the best for for the price and what they are they don’t suck… I can carry one by myself, it’s not exactly easy but it’s possible…
@@thetree9399 JBL makes good stuff around the same price, the cabinets are a lot bigger but have more below 40hz. QSC makes good stuff but the prices are higher… I don’t think there’s anything better than the EV 200s in the 1k price range…
Yes, when the Subwoofer is the main source of sound & you connect the speakers to follow, the speakers become stereo. Plus, it is best to adjust the volumes to your liking to get that good balance of equal sound.
Out of the times I've used it outdoors, I usually have my set up under a cover so no direct sunlight hits my equipment. So far, I've had no problem with overheating. I think it all comes down to how hard you crank it for periods of time that will overheat. I recommend always having a fan plugged in to keep some form of circulation going 👍 again, it really all comes down to how 'hard' you use it.
If the system was was well thought and designed there would usually be a fan built in, just like my db opera the fan inside of it comes on when needed so there's less chance of the fan failing.
Realistically, this sub in particular isn't a subwoofer you would use for a home theater sound system. These are more catered to live sound; performance on stage etc. Check out your local Best Buy or electronic retail stores that may have an affordable and good quality sound system with woofer that will meet your needs for you home!
@@jcomusicproductions understood, but I got yamaha msr400...it would mean a lot to me if elx200 had high pass...yamaha would be relieved... could you check high pass option on elx200 sub?
@@nerihugo5 Absolutely 💯 and since you have EV, depending which tops you have, you can play with the settings to match the sound frequency for a better quality sound
I have owned these for 2 years. They are pretty good for the price. Especially if a dj has a smaller budget but needs some good low end at their events. More especially if a dj is single op, or doesn’t have the space to transport bigger subs. And the QuickSmart app is great to have, which is unique only to the ELX 200 line (at this time).
You can connect the set up first with the cables and play Bluetooth off the speakers but if you are going to use a mixer to play music or have it for live band etc, then the cables must connect to mixer
Hello 👋 I have 2 new ELX200 18s i have a question I had them playing like for 4 hours and then they started to smell like a burning smell I just want it to know if it’s normal?
Burning smell from the Subwoofer? Well, if you had them out in the sunlight and it was hot, it probably was slowly starting to overheat. However, it could also be that the cables you were using could be the problem? Sometimes it could be the cables, but also remember to make sure that you're not in direct sunlight unless all cables and back sides are covered up.
Apparently new electro-voice speakers have adhesive that tends to off-gas when the speakers are driven hard and warm up the first few times. It definitely smells a bit like you’re overpowering the coils in the speakers. From what I know, very rarely do the drivers ever fail under the power of their own amplifier, which is power matched to them.
i want to know how loud but i guess the only way is by listening to them, i mean a love the audio quality but i dont know how loud it can get and yamaha is kind a pioneer in loud speakrs. of course lets not mention Meyer sound cuz I aint no spending a million dollars into an audio system
When it comes to subwoofers, you want a good balance of power witj its watts with the main speakers you use. Remember, it all comes down to what you intend to use the woofer & speakers for.

How do i connect my 2 Top speakers (YAMAHA S115v PASSIVE) to MIXER, AMP and a set of this powered SUBWOOFERS ?
I believe, if I'm not mistaken, you'd have to plug cables from tops, to subwoofer, then right into a mixer of your choice to balance out the bass

I'm not 100% sure but I think with the tops that have access to link with other same brand speakers, it can help cut treble.
