the new rwby is very good. but this CGI shit thing has the worst animation i have ever seen in my entire life. i dont usually complain about anime. but here i cant hold back. its just soooo bad it fucking hurts to watch
the drop in fight choreography in Vol 4 onwards is so sharp. Like, she goes from having this kinda rhythm of using the shots to propel herself about or to make the scythe carve faster, to just using it as a gun, or slashing with it conventionally like a regular scythe, and then just zooping about with her semblance, makes battles so much less interesting visually. You can see this downgrade a lot with other characters with complex/distinct fighting styles like Blake. Hard to know if it's the loss of Monty, the new animation software or both, but its sorely missed. Vol 7's fights were a real return to form though.
So true. I haven't seen vol7 and beyond yet, but I really did notice that ruby just seemed to fight differently in vol 1-3 vs vol 4 and beyond. Watching the Red trailer and the vol4 character short back to back really makes it obvious to me. And to be honest it's not like bad it just lost the whole "ruby"-ness of it and it made me dislike the character short quite a bit. She doesn't look as cool and as fast and as "Ruby" as she used to. But hopefully it is true that it improves in vol7 and onwards
Man, I thought I was the only one who noticed that. It felt so creative when characters fought, they had their own styles and it’s mostly noticeable with ruby, she was the one who made scythes so cool to me and I really miss the way she fought back then. Probably why I dropped the show. Don’t get me wrong I also fell for the story but the fights were what kept me watching an entire episode from start to finish. Don’t get me wrong I still like their improvements with how smoothly things run but yeah.
SO! Why did they do that: The fight scene were great in the three first volume, but the scenario was unclear, and they didn't knew what to do with the character and the world building. When thay came to the 4th volume, they decided that the 15 YO main character was maybe a little to strong for the story, so they made her fights look like it's more difficult in the outside world than in the school!
It’s so sad how Ruby’s best fight didn’t even take place in the actual show but in her trailer before volume 1. When I watched that trailer THAT was the level of fights I was expecting to see from her in the show but was genuinely disappointed we never got to see it again. I know it’s partly due to the fact of Monty’s passing so early on in the series but RT could have done SO much more with Ruby’s fight scenes even after volume 2 but they just decided not to.
Lol, they didn't "Decide not to". The creator of the show, and the only actual talent behind it died. That sharp decline you see in the quality of the all the fights wasn't just because they suddenly got lazy, Monty had a serious talent for the stuff that no one has been able to replicate.
You hoe the fights got somewhat better in v7? It was because they hire fans of the series and Monty, so they learned how to emulate the animation techniques he used. Unfortunately RT wasn't paying them well and had horrible conditions, as well as many harassment allegations regarding discrimination of LGBT+ and disabled employees/interns. You can look up fan animations of people making their own series adjacent/in universe to RWBY with their own team names and distinctive fights, some are clearly amateur and others are near studio level.

Watching this video has made me realize that a lot of Ruby's development as a fighter is backwards. Volume 5: Ruby needs to learn how to fight without her scythe. Volume 2: Ruby defeats all of Team JNPR (including Pyrrha, supposedly leagues above her peers in terms of skill) with a single powerful use of her semblance that didn't require her scythe at all. Volume 7: Ruby needs to understand how her semblance works; because it's not just a speed boost. Volume 4: Ruby clearly understands that her semblance isn't just a speed boost; as shown when she fights the monke. Only ability she's made actual progress on is her Silver Eyes.
She only understands that it’s more than speed, but she doesn’t fully get what that means. If she did, she’d be warping all over the place in her fights, instead of the quick-footed bolts and gyrates she does. She seems to understand the pseudo-Anemokinesis her semblance lends her, but not fully. She only used it for tornados so far, when there’s more she could be doing, like making gusts of wind to discombobulate an opponents counterattack, before going in a quickly placed scythe angle to cleave them askew.
She barely fought in the first three seasons, and she was losing badly in the one major fight she took part in and only won because of overconfidence on Neo's part and obliviousness on Roman's, not to mention she was beaten by a pair of White Fang goons when she lost Crescent Rose and only survived Mercury because he let her go. Meanwhile in the later volumes she was matched against an Ace Op, and held her own against Neo alone.@@lourivera8449
I really wish they had done more with Ruby wielding dust rounds. All the cast had interesting nuanced powerful powers that were just…written out of the show.
Ruby's V8 fight against Neo is more impressive than people give it credit for, especially since she doing most of it up a incline while also canonically having a panic attack.

I find it funny that everyone says Ruby is a bad character, yet somehow, for me, she seems to be the only character that I find myself paying a lot of attention to and the only one I find myself caring about. Maybe I'm just a weirdo? If so I accept it, I like Ruby's character despite certain questionable writing choices of RT.
You should like ruby I mean she always looked out for her team (even when she needed to look out for herself..) some people fail to realize meanings behind things and tend to say stuff that doesn't make sense trust me the show isn't a bad show if you see someone saying something negative about it try to ignore it you know what you think is right and that's what matters.

Through watching this videos I have come to a complete understanding of rubys fighting style which I will now classify as fighting style 1 because shes the first and main character this will take in to account her weapon semblance and how she’s uses them When using her aptly named crescent rose she can one shot most Grimm. from short distance with her heavy bladed Scythe she also commonly uses it to stab into things for grip and block bullets and other melee attacks. and on mid to long range is what her sniper rifle is for which can deal with most low tier Grimm. her scythe is based off her uncles but his is more suited for close range her sycthe is perfect weapon designed for most definitely for killing Grimm compared to her uncles is more prepared for humans. Next her semblance let’s her speed around the battle field dodge attack that could be fatal and support any allies she has. Finally her silver eyes which allows her to kill or wound most Grimm all though she doesn’t have complete control over it. Over all she an all around style which allows her to keep up in all most any situations while teamed shes support she does critical damages sits at far range to snipe unsuspecting fighters comes up with plans and lands the kill shot.

Me too man me too before. I respect rooster teeth for giving the budget to make rwby happen, but they suck at making fighting scenes and writing stories. So much of the color and crazy anime fight cinemtrogrophy just gone with the newer seasons
RT better improve Ruby's fighting style a bit. Don't get me wrong the fights were great during V1-V4, about average in V5 and V6, awesome in V7 but bit of a downer in V8. So I hope V9 or V10 can make her become a lot better at fighting and seeing how she lost her scythe for a while, she might need to catch up on her training. Maybe use a sword or spear at least something that's not as flawed as Crescent Rose.
I’m pretty sure it’s just because they don’t know how to animate her using a scythe or something. They did that with Sun for the longest and kept him out of the Main cast because of it ironically enough as if our cast wasn’t swollen enough

Actually I don't think she needs to change her weapon or her fighting style, Ruby can fight very well with her scythe. Her only problem is her hand to hand combat. She relies on her weapon too much and needs to learn how to fight without it and V9 is a good chance for her to get better at that, hopefully they take that approach.

Feels like the world's weirdest Rollercoaster having the fight sequences quality start really high, drop pretty low, and then climb a good bit afterwards. A nice little capsule of how the show's evolved at this point.
Honestly the fighting animation exhibited by Ruby in volume 8 made her look like such an amateur that it would've made more sense to me if it was actually of Weiss having just picked up Ruby's scythe for the first time, like what if ruby had for some reason been knocked out and Weiss had lost her rapier to the void instead... Yeah, under those circumstances the fighting animation could've actually seemed impressive since Weiss really wouldn't have any reason to know how to handle that weapon, and for the quick quick movement segment Weiss could've just used her glyphs instead. Note: it's not cause Ruby was getting wrecked by Neo that she looked bad, in volume 3 she looked really impressive despite that exact same thing happening there.
I'm happy you made that last note. I feel like that applies to a lot of fights in the series. It's less about them losing and more just how it looked when they lost. Pyrrha vs Cinder in Vol 3 may not be that bad, especially compared to some of the later fights, but it looked and felt a bit unimpressive. We've seen both fighters do way better yet the battle felt a bit clunky imo. A good chunk of the Volume 5 fights were like that too. Weiss vs Vernal, Jaune vs Cinder, Yang vs Mercury, which then turned into a 2v1 with Emerald joining. It was just frustrating.
So true, she went from being the only person to basically do anything of importance at the battle of beacon to never being relevant to doing nothing relevant in terms of combat. I mean, she could have literally gone AWOL for the entirety of V5 and it would still have gone the same way it did.

well recent rwby fights have been a downer now considering they now don’t have any dynamic fights and have completely forgotten about how the characters were originally supposed to be. like, it’s now just swinging a sword and stuff.
@@DlSCONEXT if you said this during volume 5 we might be more on the same page, but frankly when volume 6 train fight exists, Adam against Blake and Yang exist, (and this is all based purely on the fights quality mind you) Ironwood vs Watts exists, Team RWBY vs The Ace-ops exists, the alleyway fight with tyrian vs qrow, Robyn and Clover exists, the three way battle between Tyrian, Clover and Qrow exists, The *exactly* one minute fight between Maria and Tock from volume 6 exists, or how Cinder fighting both Penny and Winter is a thing, or how Hazel's entire chad moment against Salem exists, not to mention Ironwood proving why he's the general by holding his own against like 6 fucking people for a minute straight at once also exists, and then of course the entire penultimate + finale episode fight (minus a few eh moments) ALSO exists, this is a gross oversimplification of the fights quality. If your gonna criticize rwby (of which there is plenty of valid points to pull from) at least do yourself a favor and actually understand what your trying to criticize specifically.
@@Lucas61616 oh thats just a simple glimpse of my opinion really! its really hard to condense what i have about this show. i do understand notable fights from recent volumes but i suppose it comes down to how you as a consumer of this show would like ^^". im not trying to bash the show or anything i completely understand what rabbit hole im diving to, i suppose with the time i have ill tell you what i think of the fights. the majority of the fights in rwby consists of the characters word vomiting all over the place. dialogue and exposition is treated poorly with the adam vs yang and blake fight. an example of that is blake just explaining adam's semblance to yang. i think that by itself couldve been handled more easier. the ace ops vs rwby fight is.. average in my opinion. i get the message theyre trying to slide across was that team rwby had friendships and teamwork and thats what drove them to winning. however the team broke apart. the only teamwork they had was yang and blake being galfriends and just running off to fight the two other ace ops i cant bother to name. as well as weiss casting ice to block harriet from attacking ruby. there are very notable fights i absolutely love! i agree with ironwood vs watts and younger maria against tock taking a minute. perhaps that one singular chad moment with hazel restraining mami salami (salem). however when it comes down to that, i do believe the writing is all over the place. it sometimes is overwhelming and sometimes its underwhelming. i do believe the crew have made an effort trying to make up rwby with the loss of monty however it seems like they put only one amount of effort to a fight. i hope that clears up some things that you had with me! i really dont want you to believe i am bashing at rwby. in fact i do enjoy the concept of the show and the action scenes, but in my opinion, the dialogue takes me out of it.
People say that her rifle doesnt have kick but expecially in the earlier voliumes it could force her scythe to slice straight through much larger targets than her smol bean muscles could allow for,be used in combination with rose speed to send her flying through the air,and was so powerful that she consistently had to stab her blade into the ground for stability deep enough that she stumbles momentarily when pulling it out Thats easily a baretta or something if not even packing more firepower
When you take into account that after the fall of Beacon, Ruby became _horribly_ depressed and doing her best to hide it, it does a lot to explain the "drop-off" of fight quality regarding her from volumes 4-9, and why she stops being so creative with her fighting style (using her semblance to dodge, using bullets to propel her forward/backwards, etc.). Now that she's had her "revitalization" in vol 9, she'll most likely be back to her OG self (if not wiser to the world after The Tree), and with the new models, I cannot WAIT for it.

When her and Blake fell Cinder had already depleted her aura entirely so she couldn’t really use it. Idk about her scythe though. I think it’s because Yang just kinda fell that she wasn’t thinking straight.
To me the animation in a lot of the fights after volume 3 make it look like she doesn't know how to control her scythe anymore, it almost looks too big for her or something lol. I love RWBY but these videos kinda just provoke a reaction of disappointment for me cause the fights could've been so much more. They're decent at getting the emotional elements in for the later volumes and when you're watching it at the time, it helps to hide any weaknesses in fight scene choreography at least for me.

Disregarding volume 5 and the giest fight I really like these. Even the she moved pretty well in the geist fight but the fight had too much talking and teleporting
It saddens me that a key component about ruby's fighting style that was kind of abandoned after volume 3 is the weight of crescent rose. Shes a little girl wielding a weapon that's larger than her. In her first fight on volume 1 and the red trailer, you can see that she uses the weight to manuver herself. She stands on top of it, lies on top of it and uses her whole body to create momentum to wield it. Also she knows her shots are powerful enough to propel her body alongside the weapon. An interesting thing I only realized 10 years after picking up the show is that, when monty animates rwby shooting from the ground with crescent rose extended, she almost always sinks its blade in the ground, so she isn't sent flying by the power of the shot. It seems that CRWBY didn't take that into consideration after volume 3.

The one against the hound didn’t count cause she was unconscious and during last volume was somewhat disappointing as well sinceRuby did exactly go all out on the ace ops. Vol 9 better be a volume where she can get better at combat experience

The main reason I started watching RWBY from volume 1 was strictly the animation style and choreography. After volume 3 (the volume when Monty Oum died), it was just so hard to continue watching the series due to the awkward animation choreography. I will admit it got slightly better as the volumes went on, but still never held a candle to what Oum produced before. RIP Monty
at around 11:00 minutes mark you can see a difference in combat animations. In old she use her gun a lot to spin, to jump, to change directions. Later this feat is disappear. She is pretended to look cool.
literally everyone got nerfed in terms of combat capabilities it's hard to think of a choreography w a scythe and it makes ruby look sloppy while fighting weiss has been nerfed to summons only and her new outfit doesn't help her dancing while fighting combat style blake just isn't the same, she only fights well when paired with yang and yang is pretty much the same, except she forgot that she can also kick and shoot rather than just punch

Ruby only looks cool when she’s fighting Grimm and when she attempts to fight a person anymore she looks kinda lame compared to other characters. Blake just never uses her Kusari-gama mode anymore and it sucks because now she only ever shoots useless bullets or fights with 2 very short range swords
Even the way ruby shoots crescent rose in scythe mode changes. Look at her shooting in volume 2 at mountain glen then look at her shooting in volume 7 in the dust mines

I'm not sure if it just me, but later on I feel like she just lost weight in her fighting. You know? I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but like when she swirls and spins it with no weight it starts having less impact in her fightning stlye in my opinion. I can understand maybe she got stronger, so like moving cresent rose is like a tiny stick ot her now. But I just feel like if they slowed it down a bit like when she fought Cinder at 4:22 instead of doing it like when she fought Emerald at 23:05 it would've looked better. Like if you went through frame by frame you can see cresent rose fully and blockinng most of Cinder's attacks, but with Emerald if you went frame by frame you just see a red blur and Ruby's hand only goes to the ending pose.
she uses it in a extraordinary dextrous manner, but it is still a large heavy weapon designed to fight monsters the size of buildings, not duel against humans. so it is easy to see how a quick thinking strategic fencer/swordsman such as neo could easily out manuever her and use her own momentum against her, i just hate how they had to slow ruby down to make it happen, kinda lazy.

Ruby isn't actually involved in the fight, so it gets skipped. Ruby's participation is what the scenes require.
Watching this video has made me realize that a lot of Ruby's development as a fighter is backwards.
Volume 5: Ruby needs to learn how to fight without her scythe.
Volume 2: Ruby defeats all of Team JNPR (including Pyrrha, supposedly leagues above her peers in terms of skill) with a single powerful use of her semblance that didn't require her scythe at all.
Volume 7: Ruby needs to understand how her semblance works; because it's not just a speed boost.
Volume 4: Ruby clearly understands that her semblance isn't just a speed boost; as shown when she fights the monke.
Only ability she's made actual progress on is her Silver Eyes.
Like way do they keep debuffing ruby ? She’s not as good as she was at the beginning tbh
She only understands that it’s more than speed, but she doesn’t fully get what that means. If she did, she’d be warping all over the place in her fights, instead of the quick-footed bolts and gyrates she does. She seems to understand the pseudo-Anemokinesis her semblance lends her, but not fully. She only used it for tornados so far, when there’s more she could be doing, like making gusts of wind to discombobulate an opponents counterattack, before going in a quickly placed scythe angle to cleave them askew.
Also they were having a food fight, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the scaling was a bit fucked for the fun of it
In Vol 4 not only does she use her semblance the same way she learns to do in Vol 7, she also uses the scythe upgrade she gets in that arc too.
She barely fought in the first three seasons, and she was losing badly in the one major fight she took part in and only won because of overconfidence on Neo's part and obliviousness on Roman's, not to mention she was beaten by a pair of White Fang goons when she lost Crescent Rose and only survived Mercury because he let her go. Meanwhile in the later volumes she was matched against an Ace Op, and held her own against Neo alone.@@lourivera8449
I really wish they had done more with Ruby wielding dust rounds. All the cast had interesting nuanced powerful powers that were just…written out of the show.
Ruby's V8 fight against Neo is more impressive than people give it credit for, especially since she doing most of it up a incline while also canonically having a panic attack.

If all that would’ve been in that finale episode it would’ve felt more natural to me, however it doesn’t fix all the other times where Ruby just sucks ass at fighting or doesn’t fight at all. I find it funny that everyone says Ruby is a bad character, yet somehow, for me, she seems to be the only character that I find myself paying a lot of attention to and the only one I find myself caring about. You should like ruby I mean she always looked out for her team (even when she needed to look out for herself..) some people fail to realize meanings behind things and tend to say stuff that doesn't make sense trust me the show isn't a bad show if you see someone saying something negative about it try to ignore it you know what you think is right and that's what matters.

Through watching this videos I have come to a complete understanding of rubys fighting style which I will now classify as fighting style 1 because shes the first and main character this will take in to account her weapon semblance and how she’s uses them
When using her aptly named crescent rose she can one shot most Grimm. from short distance with her heavy bladed Scythe she also commonly uses it to stab into things for grip and block bullets and other melee attacks. and on mid to long range is what her sniper rifle is for which can deal with most low tier Grimm. her scythe is based off her uncles but his is more suited for close range her sycthe is perfect weapon designed for most definitely for killing Grimm compared to her uncles is more prepared for humans. Next her semblance let’s her speed around the battle field dodge attack that could be fatal and support any allies she has. Finally her silver eyes which allows her to kill or wound most Grimm all though she doesn’t have complete control over it. Over all she an all around style which allows her to keep up in all most any situations while teamed shes support she does critical damages sits at far range to snipe unsuspecting fighters comes up with plans and lands the kill shot.
Also she used to punch and fight barehanded prior to volume 4

RT better improve Ruby's fighting style a bit. Don't get me wrong the fights were great during V1-V4, about average in V5 and V6, awesome in V7 but bit of a downer in V8. So I hope V9 or V10 can make her become a lot better at fighting and seeing how she lost her scythe for a while, she might need to catch up on her training. Maybe use a sword or spear at least something that's not as flawed as Crescent Rose.
I’m pretty sure it’s just because they don’t know how to animate her using a scythe or something. They did that with Sun for the longest and kept him out of the Main cast because of it ironically enough as if our cast wasn’t swollen enough

Actually I don't think she needs to change her weapon or her fighting style, Ruby can fight very well with her scythe. Her only problem is her hand to hand combat. She relies on her weapon too much and needs to learn how to fight without it and V9 is a good chance for her to get better at that, hopefully they take that approach.

Feels like the world's weirdest Rollercoaster having the fight sequences quality start really high, drop pretty low, and then climb a good bit afterwards. A nice little capsule of how the show's evolved at this point.
Honestly the fighting animation exhibited by Ruby in volume 8 made her look like such an amateur that it would've made more sense to me if it was actually of Weiss having just picked up Ruby's scythe for the first time, like what if ruby had for some reason been knocked out and Weiss had lost her rapier to the void instead...
Yeah, under those circumstances the fighting animation could've actually seemed impressive since Weiss really wouldn't have any reason to know how to handle that weapon, and for the quick quick movement segment Weiss could've just used her glyphs instead.
Note: it's not cause Ruby was getting wrecked by Neo that she looked bad, in volume 3 she looked really impressive despite that exact same thing happening there.
I'm happy you made that last note. I feel like that applies to a lot of fights in the series. It's less about them losing and more just how it looked when they lost. Pyrrha vs Cinder in Vol 3 may not be that bad, especially compared to some of the later fights, but it looked and felt a bit unimpressive. We've seen both fighters do way better yet the battle felt a bit clunky imo.
A good chunk of the Volume 5 fights were like that too. Weiss vs Vernal, Jaune vs Cinder, Yang vs Mercury, which then turned into a 2v1 with Emerald joining. It was just frustrating.

@@DlSCONEXT if you said this during volume 5 we might be more on the same page, but frankly when volume 6 train fight exists, Adam against Blake and Yang exist, (and this is all based purely on the fights quality mind you) Ironwood vs Watts exists, Team RWBY vs The Ace-ops exists, the alleyway fight with tyrian vs qrow, Robyn and Clover exists, the three way battle between Tyrian, Clover and Qrow exists, The *exactly* one minute fight between Maria and Tock from volume 6 exists, or how Cinder fighting both Penny and Winter is a thing, or how Hazel's entire chad moment against Salem exists, not to mention Ironwood proving why he's the general by holding his own against like 6 fucking people for a minute straight at once also exists, and then of course the entire penultimate + finale episode fight (minus a few eh moments) ALSO exists, this is a gross oversimplification of the fights quality.
If your gonna criticize rwby (of which there is plenty of valid points to pull from) at least do yourself a favor and actually understand what your trying to criticize specifically.

oh thats just a simple glimpse of my opinion really! its really hard to condense what i have about this show. i do understand notable fights from recent volumes but i suppose it comes down to how you as a consumer of this show would like ^^".
im not trying to bash the show or anything i completely understand what rabbit hole im diving to, i suppose with the time i have ill tell you what i think of the fights.
the majority of the fights in rwby consists of the characters word vomiting all over the place. dialogue and exposition is treated poorly with the adam vs yang and blake fight.
an example of that is blake just explaining adam's semblance to yang. i think that by itself couldve been handled more easier.
the ace ops vs rwby fight is.. average in my opinion. i get the message theyre trying to slide across was that team rwby had friendships and teamwork and thats what drove them to winning. however the team broke apart. the only teamwork they had was yang and blake being galfriends and just running off to fight the two other ace ops i cant bother to name. as well as weiss casting ice to block harriet from attacking ruby.
there are very notable fights i absolutely love! i agree with ironwood vs watts and younger maria against tock taking a minute. perhaps that one singular chad moment with hazel restraining mami salami (salem).
however when it comes down to that, i do believe the writing is all over the place. it sometimes is overwhelming and sometimes its underwhelming. i do believe the crew have made an effort trying to make up rwby with the loss of monty however it seems like they put only one amount of effort to a fight.
i hope that clears up some things that you had with me! i really dont want you to believe i am bashing at rwby. in fact i do enjoy the concept of the show and the action scenes, but in my opinion, the dialogue takes me out of it.

People say that her rifle doesnt have kick but expecially in the earlier voliumes it could force her scythe to slice straight through much larger targets than her smol bean muscles could allow for,be used in combination with rose speed to send her flying through the air,and was so powerful that she consistently had to stab her blade into the ground for stability deep enough that she stumbles momentarily when pulling it out

When you take into account that after the fall of Beacon, Ruby became _horribly_ depressed and doing her best to hide it, it does a lot to explain the "drop-off" of fight quality regarding her from volumes 4-9, and why she stops being so creative with her fighting style (using her semblance to dodge, using bullets to propel her forward/backwards, etc.). Now that she's had her "revitalization" in vol 9, she'll most likely be back to her OG self (if not wiser to the world after The Tree), and with the new models, I cannot WAIT for it.
I know I'm not original but can ypu do the same for Jaune? I know all of them deserve one, but I just think with Jaune it would be really neat.

To me the animation in a lot of the fights after volume 3 make it look like she doesn't know how to control her scythe anymore, it almost looks too big for her or something lol. I love RWBY but these videos kinda just provoke a reaction of disappointment for me cause the fights could've been so much more.
They're decent at getting the emotional elements in for the later volumes and when you're watching it at the time, it helps to hide any weaknesses in fight scene choreography at least for me.

Disregarding volume 5 and the giest fight I really like these. Even the she moved pretty well in the geist fight but the fight had too much talking and teleporting
It saddens me that a key component about ruby's fighting style that was kind of abandoned after volume 3 is the weight of crescent rose. Shes a little girl wielding a weapon that's larger than her. In her first fight on volume 1 and the red trailer, you can see that she uses the weight to manuver herself. She stands on top of it, lies on top of it and uses her whole body to create momentum to wield it. Also she knows her shots are powerful enough to propel her body alongside the weapon. An interesting thing I only realized 10 years after picking up the show is that, when monty animates rwby shooting from the ground with crescent rose extended, she almost always sinks its blade in the ground, so she isn't sent flying by the power of the shot. It seems that CRWBY didn't take that into consideration after volume 3.

The main reason I started watching RWBY from volume 1 was strictly the animation style and choreography. After volume 3 (the volume when Monty Oum died), it was just so hard to continue watching the series due to the awkward animation choreography. I will admit it got slightly better as the volumes went on, but still never held a candle to what Oum produced before. RIP Monty

at around 11:00 minutes mark you can see a difference in combat animations. In old she use her gun a lot to spin, to jump, to change directions. Later this feat is disappear. She is pretended to look cool.

Team fights shouldn't count since they're not focused only on her, also what's RWBY if Ruby herself didn't fight.
I'm not sure if it just me, but later on I feel like she just lost weight in her fighting. You know? I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but like when she swirls and spins it with no weight it starts having less impact in her fightning stlye in my opinion. I can understand maybe she got stronger, so like moving cresent rose is like a tiny stick ot her now. But I just feel like if they slowed it down a bit like when she fought Cinder at 4:22 instead of doing it like when she fought Emerald at 23:05 it would've looked better. Like if you went through frame by frame you can see cresent rose fully and blockinng most of Cinder's attacks, but with Emerald if you went frame by frame you just see a red blur and Ruby's hand only goes to the ending pose.
she uses it in a extraordinary dextrous manner, but it is still a large heavy weapon designed to fight monsters the size of buildings, not duel against humans. so it is easy to see how a quick thinking strategic fencer/swordsman such as neo could easily out manuever her and use her own momentum against her, i just hate how they had to slow ruby down to make it happen, kinda lazy.
I also love how far my Ruby shisuta imouto-san/my main waifu, came so far.
