Interesting. Still have my 2003 Medion desktop in storage intact. XP, Pentium 4 2.66, 1GB RAM (originally 512MB), nVidia 7900GS AGP (originally an ATI Radeon 9000). Might fire it up again some day. Hasn't been used since 2011.
Nice Video, love the 4K, thank you. I have very fond childhood memories of these computers being almost everywhere over here in Germany. My neighbour had that MT6 and we had a Medion at home too, not sure what model, but it had an AMD Phenom i think. Also, you nailed saying "Einstellungen" :)
I had a part of my script where I mentioned some of my friends in Europe saying exactly this - but it didn't make the cut. In fact, I think that they were fairly popular here too since I've seen them a few times at recyclers!
@@arizonapalms I've really had no idea until today that they sold them outside of Europe. I remember seeing news reports about people going insane about Aldi computers, some people reportedly queued in front of Aldi starting at 4:30am on a Saturday to get their hands on a P4 Medion system.
Man this brings back memories. Back in the early 2000s I used to work at a place building PCs - a lot of the time I'd build brand new custom order PCs from parts, but my boss somehow managed to buy pallets of old Medion returns that we'd have to try to fix. I've dealt with hundreds, if not thousands of them spanning Pentium 3 era to systems that look just like these ones, although the ones I dealt with had a GeForce 4 Ti4200 in them instead of the Radeon. I'd have to figure out what was wrong with them and replace/swap parts around to try to get as many working systems as I could. At the time I remember getting quite frustrated with them but looking back they were all made of decent components. Been a long time since I've seen one of these systems intact and running : )
1:29 I would've killed for a TV tuner and S-Video capture in 2003. This was a feature old power macintosh users loved to brag about. So many windows users were capturing RCA over USB solutions like Dazzle and the archival quality really suffered.
A few family members of mine in Croatia had those K-World capture cards which could capture full resolution and I was so jealous, it wasn’t until 2007 or so I got my first USB EzCap capture card and it sucked so bad.
Great review, well done. I have exactly the same machine that I bought from someone few years ago for 10€. Mine's hard disk was missing as it had crashed. No wonder, the cooling of the system as from the factory really sucks. The only air inlet with a guided flow is via the side panel and that ventilator is only directed to the cpu. The powerbloc's fan has to do the rest of the cooling for the case as nothing else is foreseen and the case is totally closed. What I did is, I installed a 250GB SSD and I installed an extra fan with an outlet on the back to cool the thing...marvelous...runs like a sewing machine now.
You're absolutely right - I've had one of these a few years ago that overheated and cooked itself after the CPU fan failed, I wonder if there was at least 1 extra fan in the case it would've survived maybe
Had one of these for a while. I can’t remember why returned it. Had an issue and spoke to their support over the phone that explained how to reinstall Windows!😊
My first PC was this exact PC when i was a teenager with the same graphics card etc. I think it was November 19th 2003 when it came out and my mom went to Aldi at 7am because these computers were in demand for the price. 1179€ if I'm not mistaken Was gaming on these until I build my first PC in 2007 and was really good too (Half life 2, Far cry, Doom 3) Really fond memories. Doesn't support Tualatin cpu's either. It has an AGP and an ISA slot so I use it with an AWE32 and a gf2-mx200 for dos gaming. More that fast enough.

Regarding the dual optical drives, the conventional wisdom at the time was that because writers were significantly more expensive than basic readers, it was better to have both and place all the day-to-day wear and tear on the cheaper drive and just use the writer when needed. Making piracy easier was just a side benefit.
These came out around the same time as those e-machines that Walmart had and look quite similar. I bet any money they were both made in the same factory.

Hi. Good video. I had the same idea: Windows 98 retro PC by adding a soundblaster audio card and disabling the onboard audio chip and LAN, serial and parallel port. Replace the CMOS battery. But with a 160gb HD I prefer a dual boot. Installing Win98 on the drive partitionned with fdisk at x% and then last installing XP. If a game does not work in XP, Win98 could be used. My XP version create a dual boot automatically when 98 is installed first. You could try and see if it does the same with yours. Do not surf the internet with XP.
I had one of these, with P4 3GHz. I think it had a ATI X700 which I replaced with a X800 GTO Ultimate. Good times. My first PC and my first steps of upgrading parts. I got mine from another store (called media market).
