Dropped my hiking pole crossing a river to a waterfall this last weekend. I have no confidence in my balance with my camera and tripod in the middle of a river. 😁 Enjoyed the video. thanks
Yes hanging out in the middle of a river can be a bit sketchy sometimes for sure.
Most most helpful Adam. Gavin and others have spoken about this painting with masks. I have used lots of masks before in Lr but haven’t played too much in Ps with them yet. Thanks. Cheers.
Hey Adam... I've planned a two day getaway with my wife to Sooke & was wondering if there is any decent landscape locations nearby you would recommend? Water falls, seascapes or rivers within a half hour drive.
"Really uncomfortable when sweaty." TMI
Uhhh, you make it look so easy. ☺️
A wise person once said "processing is easy if you get it right in camera first". Explains why I have a difficult time with blending. 🙄🤔
I guess I should write down some of these golden nuggets of info, maybe I'll remember them when I'm in the field. 🤞
Great video Adam. Can't wait to hear about your new project! 🌳
Vancouver must be a pleasure, not only for photography but for the eyes only !!!
Great tips on masking. Simple but refreshing. Not sure about the trousers though lol
Great video Adam, lots of tips there to use on my excursion to Yorkshire.
Really enjoyed the video and the post processing was awesome. It's nice to be entertained and to learn at the same time. Great shot as well. Love the neoprene pants ;-)
What a beautiful waterfall and location. Would you be willing to go into more detail where the "trail head" / bridge is to visit this?
Thanks, I seem to struggle with blending images together. Need to give it another go.
Are you getting hardware acceleration in photoshop theses days?
Hi Adam! I have a rare break in my work schedule! I'm going on a short road trip to Victoria BC Sunday to Tuesday. Any good tips for nearby places to go find some shots? I am meeting family at Butchart Gardens Monday. How do you find ways to make pictures of places everyone else has done a billion times unique? Your videos are so damn helpful and just make Canada shine, the tourism board really should subsidize you! Also, it's been a while since you did a gear review- especially interested in what you look for in a travel tripod. Thanks!
Sooke Pothole, possibly? The lighthouse out at Shirley. Royal Roads University has a great garden
Wow, you weren't kidding Adam! Massive thanks for this masking tutorial.
While waiting for good light you could try a little fishing.
Adam i think flyfishing better this hear,,
Nice watch you're wearing. What is it?
Thanks. Masking is hard for me so the more times I see it done well the better.
Great info something I often don’t think of in the field and pay for it in a good final image or great one. Thanks
Thank you! Very helpful editing instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Adam i just love your style and learning from you. I was wondering when doing photo stacking or time stacking . Do you keep the aperature the same for each shot and just change speed? In your video you mentioned shallow depth of field on the ferns to the left side. Did you change the f stop for that shot or was each one done at a more open aperature... Love your videos and pictures thanks Adam
Depends on the shutter speed that I can achieve. Most of the time I just up the iso
love the scene
Hi Adam. Are you aware of a reply send to me, on your name just below. A scam, but it said. "I win a PlayStation".
I am now, thanks for pointing it out
0:42 Oh no you did not leave that perfectly good walking stick behind...
I did notice that 👍🏼
Greetings from Germany.
Viele Grüße von Loki
Thank you. Great tutorial.
Great video, thanks.
Great image an technic process.
Great image, love the trousers!
This is a great video. Thanks alot
Another great vid sir.
Great video and love the PS tips
My weightlifter legs would never work in neoprene; I'm thinking of a proper pair of hip waders for similar scenarios. Great demo of exposure blending, which I've seen Gavin do frequently.
So, your not-so-secret "Gibbs and Hardcastle" project has already started? Or are you guys still arguing over the title sequence? 😉 Whichever, I look forward to it.
Lovely complete toturial , thank you Adam !
My pleasure!
Great tutorial thanks
A great explanation!
I really appreciate your video Adam. I very much want to learn how to blend in PS, I'm not dim, but PS is so not user friendly. This video gave a glimpse of how it can be done. I think I would need more of a step by step guide to really crack it. Also, I'm not sure which operating system you use, so when you mention shortcuts, it would be helpful to say if that was on Mac or Windows. If you have something, including paid content, that goes into more detail, please shout. Cheers
In this video, when I say option - alt, option is Mac - Alt is PC
@@QuietLightPhoto aha! You have permission to call me a numpty! 🙂 👍
Hi Adam, how are you starting the process. If I open in photoshop, it opens in Adobe raw, then opens in photoshop after I've made basic adjustments. Should I be opening my images in lightroom, or lightroom classic, or? Because my current option doesn't have all the available options all you guy's seem to have with opening multiple images and so on
I usually start with an image in Lightroom. Once you’ve done some basic work on the images, select all, right click and you should see an option to open as layers in PS.
@@QuietLightPhoto thanks man.
Belly Grabbers is the terminology you were after Adam. Thank you 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
At the beginning of the video, it looked like you where looking for somewhere under the bridge to hide a body. Have you fallen out with Bri? 🤣
Not yet!
@@QuietLightPhoto ok m mj ok mom I iikimi no I ok ok I k ok kmk
Wow! I absolutely love this video, thank you so much! I appreciate your clarity in describing what you're doing. Oh and congratulations on your landscape photographer of the year back when it was.............I hope Gavin gave your trophy back, LOL.
Awesome video
Brave parking on the side of the road :) The undisputed king of backwards drone flying :) Super Helpful Adam, wish I had waterfalls here in flat North Texas.
Really liked the waterfall texture on the faster exposure and think it looked spot on when you blended it into the middle exposure. It's all personal preference I know but I think it gives a little more drama and force to the waterfall. May try raising my shutter speed a little next I'm out
Agree on this one & personal taste. I also liked one he showed a little slower where you could see where the water would meet with the ware on the rock below. I think it depends on how much water is flowing. Like you said this one, show the power of the water flowing. If it had a lot less water flowing slower, smoother or a slower shutter speed would set the mood, so to speak. Happy shooting.
do you get a gps signal on your drone down there or do you fly in atti mode Adam?
Yes I’m get GPS
Nice walk through! I’ve seen this method before but for some reason it’s taken me a few tutorials to wrap my head around the concept of painting black and white layers. I think it finally clicked for me with this video. Thanks, Adam! 👍🏻
Great!
Great video. This is the first time that I have come across time blending but I can see where I can use it in my photography going forward. I'm excited to try it on my next outing. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for this instructional and inspirational video, Adam. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great video Adam!! Thanks for the photoshop tutorial fantastic information!!
Thanks. This is a particularly clear tutorial on this technique. It’s 105 F here today in the east Columbia River Gorge. The scene of this tutorial seems from another planet, where the aliens wade about in neoprene waders.
Excellent video Adam thank you for sharing it. The finished photo turned out great you explained the technique in photoshop very well and made it look easy I might see if GIMP will do the same job
Thanks!
This was great, Adam. Thanks. Post processing couldn't have been explained any clearer.
I tried the same thing about a week ago! Mine was not so successful. Your Photoshop skills are far superior than what I tried. Thank you for showing how it should be done. I have brand new chest waders, however I can feel water slowly trickling in. 😂 Great tips Adam Cheers!
Nice job of explaining both in the field and at the computer. Thanks
That was an excellent video Adam, so informative and very helpful indeed. I am pretty sure that I will need to watch it another couple of times to get to grips with the photoshop stuff but I am so looking forward now to giving this a go and I feel quite confident ( thanks to you and this video) that I will be able to put together a lovely waterfall photograph….oooh I am so excited to go out now. Thanks for sharing it Adam, keep up the good work 😁👍
Thanks for another great video. Love watching you edit the photos after you take them. Well done.
How can I get one good image without editing.
I don’t have any editing programs you mentioned.
Shoot JPG's, Keep an eye out for what the light is doing, experiment with filters. Think about it, film was around for many years before computers and many great images came from film and still do without any computer editing. Learn your craft, learn about light, composition.
Thank you very much. Ref the reply.
Pete
Great video. Thanks for explaining this in simple terms. Although I know the process I need to hear and see it many times to keep it locked in! Keep it up
I really love this photo! Probably besides mountain peaks, waterfalls are my most favourite subject to photograph!
Great tutorial with the exposure blending as well!
Thanks Adam for showing how relatively easy it is to blend those layers , just need to remember to use that method in the field
You bet!
This was great, Adam! I enjoyed it alot. Thank you.
It's funny I've been using Photoshop for almost 30 years so messing around in there is no problem for me ... getting all the exposures or focus points I need out in the field not so much! 😂 I really appreciate your the step by step explanation waist deep in the big river! It's really helpful to know your approach for getting certain areas of the photograph in focus with the proper exposure.
really enjoyed this Adam, beautiful location
Thank you dams. I am on the way to a waterfall soon, and this was just in the right time. I did take notes and certainly will help me a lot. Please, keep this sort of content coming, Is gold for me.
Eagerly awaiting announcement of that new project! Fantastic job as always , AG.
Hi Adam, great video as always. Thanks for the editing insight.
Thank you for a brilliant tutorial! What a beautiful image you have created of a fabulous location.
Very helpful, Adam, and a wonderful image!
I am buying my first full frame mirrorless camera for (landscape, weather, wildlife, and long exposure) very little video. I am stuck I have a 2000.00 budget for the camera body. I have narrowed my choices down and am looking for advice
Nikon z6ii
Panasonic s5
Sony a7iii
I can also get a like new z7 with a 180 day warranty for 2100.
PLEASE HELP
Dont know! I haven’t used any of those cameras. Have you thought about buying used? I hear the Sony and Nikon are
Good cameras. I’d also spend less on the body but get food glass, do t go cheap on lenses.
I really liked your composition setup discussion. As usual there are so many things to consider and the details are important. Thanks!
Fine tutorial. I like the walk through a lot. Thank you, Adam.
Thank you for the tutorial on blending images Adam. I need to try out this technique on those situations where there is the need for a mix of exposures and focus points.
Can you show the same focus blending process with Luminar Neo with the layers etc., as many have moved from PS to Luminar Neo to avoid the high subscription fee. That would be really great.
Probably not as I dont use Luminar
Your explanation of layers and masks is so simple that even a newbie to PS can easily understand it. What is missing is what do you do after you finish the time/exposure blending etc. If you save the image, PS quits and sends a .tiff file back to LR if I understand the workflow correctly. Do also save the photo in PS as a .psd file? Advantages and disadvantages of this?
I just save it as a TIFF unless I want to continue working on it then .psd or TIFF with the layers in tact.
A really great refresher Adam, thanks for sharing.
Nice final image and the Photoshop tutorial is helpful. However, I don't think you're going to be walking the fashion runways in those pants anytime soon.😉
We shall see
Adam,
If I were to want to add other masks to make local adjustments for exposure, color, etc, would I do that first on perhaps the base raw file in Lightroom, sync all those adjustments to the additional files, and then bring those into photoshop for final blending? I've never had good direction on what is lost once you save a composite image in photoshop. I have always been afraid that the resulting TIFF or PSD loses a lot data that exists in the raw files and adjustments in a resulting composite file are limited.
yes, I usually just do all of the rough adjustment in Lightroom and then synch those adjustments on all of the images before opening them as layers. Once Ive done the time blends as illustrated I'll then finish the image off in PS. I flatten the photo and save as a TIFF or if Im not sure if the image is finished as a large file with all of the layers in tact. Everyone has their own way of doing things but this has worked fine for me.
Great video, your explanation of the blending process, in the field and in post opened up new possibilities. Many thanks,
Glad it was helpful!
Wonderful image Adam. Love the mossy rock glow on the right hand side of the comp. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your Adam. Great tips and video
Big thumbs up bud! I missed grumpton!
Have you ever toyed wih using multiple off camera flashes to freeze the motion of visually relevant foliage?
No I havent
canada has some beautiful landscape
Nice job Adam, does it matter if this is a refresher. I always seem to get something more each time from your vlog content.
I appreciate that!
Excellent image !!!
A peaceful time to enjoy photo
Your videos are always a welcome addition to my weekend. It is great the way you get into the logic of the files you create and how they all combine to the finished image. My question (and OCD) is how to keep track of the intention for each file in the finished image. Taking a shot of my hand at the start and end of a series helps, but doesn't explain how each image is intended to be used in post processing. The number of composition sets and subjects increases the complication of remembering WTF I was thinking in the field.
Do you keep notes? Record audio?
Never take notes I’m afraid, I forget too😆
@@QuietLightPhoto Jim has a good point though. Maybe the audio recorder on the phone. Note to self..
sometimes I want to just reach into the video and pick a stick out of the image completely.... 5:52 on the left side... BUT did I???? no, no I did not !
I tried, it was stuck under the log. Good try though..
@@QuietLightPhoto I did reach for the spotting tool.... that doesn't work on someone else's video. FYI...
Informative, thanks Adam!!
Glad it was helpful!
😍
hi Adam, is the left side rock structure natural, or manmade?
Natural I believe
@@QuietLightPhoto very cool, thanks! and ... btw, you are the man! :)
is thee any way to see your pics on squarespce with out having to have a account?
