Mozart had the highest regard for Mysliveček, whom he met as a young man in Bologna in 1770. They remained close friends for some time, until a fallout several years later. Mozart also mentions Mysliveček several times in his letters to his father. The most remarkable and touching is the letter from October 1777, when he describes his meeting with Mysliveček in a hospital, after an incompetent surgeon burned off Mysliveček's nose while trying to treat apparent symptoms of tertiary syphilis. Mysliveček died about four years later.

Si amigo Andrés de Moctezuma también es conocida una ópera compuesta por el italiano Antonio Vivaldi y que en UA-cam tuve la dicha de verla y hasta de bajarla en mi PC. La versión fue realizada hace pocos años en el zócalo de la ciudad de México como un tributo para la conmemoración de los 500 años de la fundación de la capital de México. Fue interpretada en las lenguas nahualt y castellano con elenco totalmente mexicano. Muy atractiva representación que ojalá se repitiera más a menudo en diferentes escenarios de la república mexicana y en el resto del mundo. Saludos desde Panamá!

Myslivecek, Haydn and Dittersdorf are probably my favorite composers of Classical Period opera, of course being slightly behind Mozart. Some other worthy opera composers of that period are J.C. Bach, B. Galuppi, J.A. Hasse, N. Piccinni, and T. A. Arne. There are many others who also composed amazing classical period opera, but it is just much harder to find performances unfortunately. Montezuma is such a wonderful opera, and this performance is truly a treasure to behold. Thank you for this post!

I have no idea how many times I've watched this most AWESOME. opera. The music is so beautiful and singing top notch. Never ever get tired of watching and listening to it. I'm from Mexico and feel proud of our Indian heritage.

Remarkable singers. I love Motezuma (Jakub Burzinski), Quacozinga (Marie Fajtova) and all others. Excellent staging evoking Aztec empire decadence. Very good dancers.
A very exciting opera seria contemporary of Lucio Silla (Mozart), Temistocle (JC Bach) and Antigona (Traetta).

2000mulligan You are welcome to come and see the next piece 'in persona'. This year '"Daniel Delivered from the Lion’s Den" by Georg Telemann. The town is beautiful and the admission is almost free, well actually its abt. USD18 ;)) The background noise is misfortune for YT but luck for spectators as it use to be open-air in the monastery garden.

Una messa in scena sconclusionata. Una sinfonia eseguita a puntate, un pezzetto per ogni atto. Le parti maschili eseguite da cantanti pietosi. Il divino Boemo avrebbe meritato qualcosa di più, davvero! Beh... godiamoci le arie di Guacozinga e Lisinga (brave e belle) e tiriamo un velo pietoso sul resto
Un film biografico "Il Boemo" sul compositore ceco Josef Mysliveček è attualmente in streaming su Netflix. Mozart ammirava le composizioni di Josef Mysliveček e divenne suo amico. Lo visitò a Monaco anche nel momento in cui il volto di Mysliveček era sfigurato a causa del trattamento per la sifilide.

Damn, I just stumbled across this. It's such an amazing opera that I've honestly never heard of before today. I only wish there were English subtitles so I could understand more of what's going on. Oh, and maybe a DVD or Blu-ray release to have on my shelf.

Hi, for this opera they were digging really deep into the old archives and they spent months restoring old handwritten sheets (which often even include many errors due to manual copying). Unfortunately, I do not think they made it publicly available after.

Here the characters are:
Motezuma Imperator of Mexico, Lover and promised spouse of Erismena (mezzo-soprano),
Erismena Queen of a dependent province of the empire (soprano),
Cortes Generale de 'Spagnuoli (tenor),
Teutile Capitano of the auxiliary Indians of Cortes, Lisinga lover (soprano),
Lisinga (soprano) Motezuma slave princess,
Ostane Official Host of the Imperial crown and confidant of Motezuma (contralto).
Listening the recording I have some difficulties to follow the text;
I’m not sure the recording followed faithfully Cigna - Santi text.
At the beginning are sung some verses that don’t appear in the libretto
The four last lines sung by the chorus differ, in my opinion, from both Cigna Santi than Giusti’s librettos.
Only the conductor can have the last word in the matter.
The same libretto was chosen also by, Gian Francesco de Majo (1765), Baldassare Galuppi (1772) and Pasquale Anfossi (1776)
Another libretto by Giampietro Tagliazucchi was used by Carl Heinrich Graun (1755)
Vivaldi chose Girolamo Alvise Giusti Libretto in 1734-39

I have looked all over the internet for a cd of this magnificent opera. Can anybody please tell me where can I find it. This video is awesome but the background noise is distracting. Thank you for sharing.

Legolasicek private message your email address, I have a high quality rehearsal recording session they did before they performed the live rendition before an audience therefore there is no audience, hence lack of stage noise, etc. I'm an amateur sound engineer and I have remastered/polished some of the arias to attain commercial-grade quality given the original source being a radio broadcast.

Gli italiani lo chiamavano IL BOEMO. Fin da bambino Mozart ammirava le composizioni di Josef Mysliveček e divenne suo amico, con cui corrispondeva. Lo ha anche visitato in un ospedale di Monaco ed è rimasto scioccato dall'apparizione di Mysliveček, il cui volto era sfigurato a causa della malattia e del trattamento per la sifilide.
