That's a good list so far. I thought EA shut down the servers for Battlefield 2. I know in older Battlefield titles, you can't really run around by yourself and spawn in with squad members. It's very semi-milsim. Getting to the Battle can be a real chore. Insurgency is semi-milsim as well, but at least you can get to the battle fairly quickly. It's literally hardcore mode from call of duty 4, but not super soldiers that can zip around like the flash in modern CoD games. If there is a playerbase for it, I would really like to try playing Battlefield 2142. That game included mechs and Battlefront 2 style ships.
It's $1 on steam right now, and I enjoyed it more than any modern shooter of it's style. The limited movement makes everyone slow down. The TTK is fair for every class. It's just good old fashioned fun.
a big reason why people are so talkative on old source games is because back in the day you had to find a private server to be a regular on, making what was essentially a micro-community. With modern matchmaking this method of community building is dieing out. I miss being a teen and visiting the same TF2 server every day after school and chatting with other server regulars, it was a great way to meet friends online.
Yeah I remember when the TF2 server I was on inexplicably died and never came back in the Winter Update of 2012. I knew a lot of people on there and it felt like it was a proper community :/
I remember having a bunch of servers saved on my favourites tab and playing with the same people each day. Some talked on mic, others by keyboard but it was great playing with people this way.
I was apart of an old DOD source server when I was younger! I know exactly what you mean.. the good ole days of "actual" community rather than like thousands upon thousands being referred to the entire games community and matchmaking now a days
I haven't played DoD:S for about 6 or more years now, but I've got fond memories of it with it being my first ever steam game back in 2008! I remember lying about my age when I was 11 to get into a clan that required you to be at least 13 😂 and begging my parents to let me stay up late because I had to take part in a realism clan match! It's still my most played steam game even though I haven't touched it for so long, but I guess I had a lot more time to game back then :) Some great guys at the Homeguard clan, which I believe is still running a 24/7 donner server to this day :)
used to spend hours and hours in this game as a kid, i even joined one of the clubs or "troops" i actually recognize some of these players in the killfeed that is crazy that theyre still playing. miss those days and this game.
you played on the 6th RB server? come on, and join us again. It his still a lot of fun. I am kind of new in the server, but the guys are great, very nice people.
I remember playing this back in high school, I only played it for like a month until going back to tf2 and even though I got pummeled in every match I loved the game. Best WW2 game in my opinion.
I have such fond memories of playing Day of Defeat Source. I remember in '05 or '06 I bought counter-strike source and Day of Defeat Source came included with the pack. A very welcome bonus.
I got a MG once on that sandbag at the corner with the church for the allies once. It was halfway through a brutal slaughterfest of the germans just ripping us to shreds but I was able to get it going and I Never. Stopped. Shooting. Oh my god I got like 100kills. and we won the match. I was screaming the whole time lol. I miss this game.
This and CSS was my childhood, I spent all summer long playing custom servers, and I even had a pub clan I was a part of. I easily had over 1000 hours back in 06', but sadly my account got hacked since I was a dumb kid who fell for one of the old fake steam links where it just steals your log-in info. I have nothing but fond memories of the game and I miss it dearly. I also miss the nostalgia of the look and sounds from old olive green steam. Good times, and I am glad it is still around and kicking.
Total memories. I was huge into this game and was in a clan at age 10 playing with older dudes who where veterans in real life. This game and counter strike changed the world lol
I'm so happy to see this game get *any* love. It's my most played game of all time. There was/is a competitive scene for sure. I play an allied sniper, almost exclusively. You played mostly on Avalanche, which is the SECOND worst stock map, IMO. It's still limping along, mostly *very* dedicated players at this point. You did great for a non-die hard
Hey, the server you played on is the unit i'm with (6th RB). DODS is still alot of fun and the unit (guys/girls) we have make this game what it is still. The community that still plays DOD is pretty close, it's still on of the best shooters on PC.
I just love this game, its so simple and oldschool that its awesome. You can play as either US Army or Wehrmacht. You have different Classes with different weapons, different maps, no camos, no special abilities but limited movements. Its just fun!
I loved being machine gunner in DoD. I've never played any other fps with so good MG implementation. I used to play it in pre-source days when I accidentally found it and was sick of CS, but it was never super popular. I even made it to my country national team but it was not super hard with so few people playing
I used to have so much fun playing this in high-school. Would sometimes accidentally play until the sun came up during summer haha. I miss multiplayer games like this.
If you want to see some different maps and a different way to play dods, you should join us for one of our realism nights. Its on a seperate server that is only open for realisms. Lmk if you're interested!
The SMG in this game has a random spread... which can be somewhat mitigated by stopping and perhaps crouching and prone. The OG DOD has a recoil that literally move your crosshair upwards...
I played this game in 2023, im very new but i love this game, glad to see people still playing it. though my only complaint is mods are very confusing to download or maybe they dont work at all
I used to play this game with my dad when I was a young! DOD Source was like my very first pc game! Thanks for highlighting how its still fun to play now a days, Im considering picking it up just to try it again. Thanks for this video.
i remember playing this game like 10 years ago, back then it was really cool....big community and the hitreg was also really good but now its unplayable for me
DoD is my favorite "have a coupla drinks and $hootem up" game... people are surprisingly nice (or at least funny), it's very tactical (in terms of where to rush or defend) and you can listen to players talk about their actual combat experience in Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.... so all in all it stays a *game* but is still competitive enough to scratch that itch
After watching this video I checked out your channel, and wow I LOVE the content you produce! Just a short explanation of the video topic and then gameplay with commentary, nostalgic games mixed with new ones, catching thumbnails. I honestly don't know what's holding back your channel, because this is exactly the content I like!
I really enjoy this game idk, I feel like when I die in the game it's fun (Cuz the source ragdolls) and fair too an boy do I love hearing that helmet hit the floor while dying too (btw the M1 Helmet does sound like that when dropped on the ground) very fun game would play if you like a good ol ww2 shooter for PC's that cant run many games 10/10
You should try custom maps. you only played original maps. Also, you should play realism mode, to feel the difference, There are clans fighting in arranged matches. In taht server that you were playing there is the chance to type Medic and get a part of you health up again.
The ADS in this game is very clunky.... that is why I hardly play rifleman, the OG DOD dun have ADS and the Kar98K is like a rail gun with a bayonet attached.
What game should we check out next?

Yes I miss this aspect of gaming so much. It ruins the experience
Yeah I remember when the TF2 server I was on inexplicably died and never came back in the Winter Update of 2012. I knew a lot of people on there and it felt like it was a proper community :/

Still remember the CS 1.6 StarWars servers here in Australia and the community we built on it, what a blast that was
I haven't played DoD:S for about 6 or more years now, but I've got fond memories of it with it being my first ever steam game back in 2008! yeah the server is still online, just played a hour ago on it. they should bring more maps back to life
used to spend hours and hours in this game as a kid, i even joined one of the clubs or "troops" i actually recognize some of these players in the killfeed that is crazy that theyre still playing. miss those days and this game.
Dude that’s crazy you can still recognize names
you played on the 6th RB server? come on, and join us again. It his still a lot of fun. I am kind of new in the server, but the guys are great, very nice people.
just played on the 6th rb server with around 24ish players
Yeah RB's great
I remember playing this back in high school, I only played it for like a month until going back to tf2 and even though I got pummeled in every match I loved the game. Best WW2 game in my opinion.
There’s a server that plays this Avalanche map 24/7 and it’s probably the most consistently fun group of people
tank abott
I have such fond memories of playing Day of Defeat Source. I remember in '05 or '06 I bought counter-strike source and Day of Defeat Source came included with the pack. A very welcome bonus.
just like me, i bought CS and DOD was included. Never let DOD again, much more tatical than CS
I miss this game.
i recently started playing it and im not even gonna lie its become one of my hyperfixations
This and CSS was my childhood, I spent all summer long playing custom servers, and I even had a pub clan I was a part of. Use to love spamming 'drop ur weapons' command , sometimes the axis players would reply with 'nein'
Often imitated, never bettered as a WWII multiplayer shooter
OG DOD! 2006, entire college dorm floor was jacked all day every day!
8:47 imagine if you created a cool montage with sick edits this shot would've been so satisfying to rewatch.
Total memories. I was huge into this game and was in a clan at age 10 playing with older dudes who where veterans in real life. This game and counter strike changed the world lol

You can really have amazing philosophical conversations on a Saturday night with the community. It's awesome :D

Day of Defeat Classic was lightyears better, with more content than the Source version.
I play every night. This and the original cs/DoD got me into fps games. Strayed towards cod but recently went back to this.

once the shut down merills i never thought i will play it again. but they pulled me back in.

The SMG in this game has a random spread... which can be somewhat mitigated by stopping and perhaps crouching and prone. The OG DOD has a recoil that literally move your crosshair upwards...
I liked the original a bit more. More varied gameplay, larger arsenal of weapons... But mainly just the sweet, sweet nostalgia.
DoD was my childhood. I wish source had kept the original’s grittiness.
I played this game in 2023, im very new but i love this game, glad to see people still playing it. though my only complaint is mods are very confusing to download or maybe they dont work at all

this game deserves more love, this is a top tier game
I started with the original and always preferred it.. because it was "darker"... color wise and from ambience wise.
i remember playing this game like 10 years ago, back then it was really cool....big community and the hitreg was also really good but now its unplayable for me

4:30 😂😂😂😂😂
God used to be in a DOD clan, might be tempted to come back if the chat is still the same vibe I remember
I like older games like this, try Neotokyo which is a free source mod, theres players every Friday.
I played so many custom maps for dod s from sonic to doom it was crazy
Nice to see you to be playing on the 6thRB server! Our server is always full 😂
Very underrated game!
During the first map I thought to myself: When will he realise that you shouldn't be sprinting all the time? xDDD
My main game back in high school. I really enjoyed the custom orange/grey texture sniper tower maps
Do they still upload new map in this game cause he's clearly still legit ?
I really enjoy this game idk, I feel like when I die in the game it's fun (Cuz the source ragdolls) and fair too an boy do I love hearing that helmet hit the floor while dying too (btw the M1 Helmet does sound like that when dropped on the ground) very fun game would play if you like a good ol ww2 shooter for PC's that cant run many games 10/10
I always muted al the people in both DoD and CS. I used the radio in CS and voice talk in DoD. Made hte game much more intense.
I haven't had the experience of playing with cooperative teammates
You should try custom maps. you only played original maps. Also, you should play realism mode, to feel the difference, There are clans fighting in arranged matches. In taht server that you were playing there is the chance to type Medic and get a part of you health up again.
best thing of old games is that theres no gambiling or money or any need to unlock anything
Its 50 % source and 50% original and the quaint of all omg😢
Most underrated MMOFPS of all-time
Day of Defeat: European Offensive when?
Day of defeat original is cool but dead that's why day of defeat source is better just cuz it has active players on it
Nah, dod_avalanche is game's iconic map. Once you realise that the side routes are the way to go...
This game and CS: Source were the epitome of Valve doing their thing. Still own it, might reinstall.
i played both dod games source and original. had a blast with both of them
Love playing this game on the devil dogs server
hey it's also TECHNICALLY their last date!
I play it rn i have 20+ hours on it
both DOD and DOD:S are great games and I'd really love to see a new version from Valve some day, but I guess never
Its Called "V"ehrmacht
The W Spells V In German
Ive played on and off since 2005 release. Way better than the original DoD. Hoping Valve makes a new DoD on Source 2!!
Hello, I have 5 friends who are back playing dods and we really enjoyed making a 5vs5 pcw to remember the old times, anyone with the same desire? 🤣
The ADS in this game is very clunky.... that is why I hardly play rifleman, the OG DOD dun have ADS and the Kar98K is like a rail gun with a bayonet attached.
Yeah it's a blast. What's less of a blast is all the cheaters still active on the servers. So who wants to play that?
avalanche was my fave map
Still a great game
I played the original back in 2000 and really liked it but I think source has almost the same gameplay and fixed a lot of problems.
dods♥
like CSGO
Better than cs2 ig
The OG day of defeat 1.3 was better,
I have bad news for you if you don't like Avalanche
This game is totally rigged it is a piece of shit
this game is still awesome
I absolutely loved it back in the day, played it last in 2016 or so. Got real sentimental watching this.🥲
Its time to play it again😍
