Great thing about the kz900 back in the day , is all you had to do to them is jet the carbs and slap a four to one Kerker header on them , and nothing could touch it !. .I loved mine. Thanks for the upload , it brought back some great memories from a magical era.

My dad bought one in 76. I remember him letting me sit on the tank and start it. I was 4. I loved watching the tach go to the redline as he went thru the gears. I bought an immaculate, one owner 1984 VFR1000 in 1991 after a few boring bikes. Newly single, I am going to get one of these early bikes as my high speed Chase days are over.

    Great video posting!!
After seeing it, I am taking off my Vetter windjammer, sissybar king/queen seat and reinstalling all my original parts on mine. I bought my KZ900A4 new in 1976 for $2700 and road it very little. Stored it with 3750 miles until 2001...rode it to Sturgus, then stored it again. Now has just under 5000 original miles on it. I have 6 cycles :) :) :)

Thanks for uploading this video, its the stuff of dreams. Nice roads, nice weather,
and riding what is probably one of the greatest motorcycles ever made.
Watching it made me (an ageing ex biker) feel like I had died and gone to Biker
    heaven.

I used to own a 1976 Kawasaki Z900A4 way back in 1981 when I lived in Cornwall United Kingdom.

I pulled up to a light and a friend of mine walked up and around the bike looking at it and said . It’s got two engines on it.

OK,. Now I understand why you called it your "last ride". I have been to Southern
California many years ago, and thought to myself what a wonderful climate to ride a
motorcycle. It was late October when we arrived in LA but the weather was still in
the mid 80's. A wonderful part of the world, especially when I live in the UK where
good biking weather is very much at a premium. I hope you are enjoying your new
bike in that wonderful Californian sunshine.

That picture of the KZ at the end doesn't match the bike on the ride? The 4 in 1 header would be much louder ! The KZ on the ride sounded like stock exhaust ! I should know I owned and drove a half dozen KZ/ZI/Z1R 900/1000,s over the years.

The sound is muted due to the GoPro camera was in a waterproof plastic case.

Just finished a 74 frame/77kz1000 engine/1980 dual disk front end. The nostalgia factor is great, but these old bikes handle like shit, so know what you have before you get too cute on them. Save the hot laps for the modern rockets.

I have seen them sell for 5-7k in mint condition. Mine when I am done with it I would be lucky to get 3k

Why did you call this your "last ride" surely you went on to have many, many more.
You certainly seem to be living in a really nice part of the world. It looks to me like
somewhere in the USA or Canada.

The bike was sold when I shot this. I wanted to try a modern liter bike before I got too old to go fast :)
      Filmed in Northern California.

Nice bike, what kind of handlebars did you put on it?

    • @garydunn3037
      @garydunn3037 8 років тому

In the US most bikes are fitted with high rise bars as standard. Herein the UK, bikes particularly from that era, had much flatter bars.

It was not a true Z-1 for collecting, for riding I will take my KTM 1290 Super Duke over it any day.
