I don`t care what the top speed is. I don`t care horsepower or quarter miles numbers. I just love to see and hear a rare classic bike like this back on the road.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Jordendog in the past 40 years I’ve only seen one and it was in a museum. I’ve had a lot of Kawasaki’s in those years and this is the Holy Grail to me. American Turbo Pack made the kit and they were sold at Kawasaki dealers all assembled. Very rare. A hot rodded Z1R.
You have to look at the era, in that era it was up to all challengers in the quarter for a bit but huge gains were coming with 4 valves and liquid cooling.
Finally I get to see one start, run & be ridden! Bravo 👏
Awesome classic Z1R turbo, hang on to it. First of the true superbikes of the late 70's. The value will only increase with time.
I remember those from back in the day, extremely rare beast. Quite a collectors item.
Extremely fast beast, too!!
I own one myself. I drag raced it in the late 80's until 1995 and drove it on the street until 2001, since then it's been stored. Some day I plan on restoring it. Check to see if the crank was welded. They offered a welded crank as an option but most weren't witch is why many of them self-destructed shortly after their purchase. If it's not I wouldn't recommend going over around 7 pounds boost. Nice video. I'm glad to see another one still around. There was only about 250 made.
Hello' to and hat's off to all the fellow Kawasaki turbo afectionals' I'm doing one and I could use all the help and expertise I could find on my build' get this' it's an original black Molly graphics bike just like on this video I have the original ATP turbo kit except it's got the spider pipe instead of the log just like on this video but I'm doing something a little different I started by addressing all the apartment weak links by going with a 1980 shaft drive kz1000st engine I swapped out the shaft drive and used a j-gpz transmission and I'm having John Pearson do a full on funny bike job to the 16 tooth mk2 crankshaft that those bike's came with I'm going with a 1075cc big bore on the stock block although I do have an APE big block set up that I can go with but not sure if the original turbo will support a 1260cc or bigger engine. Chassis wise it's got a custom stretched 8 over swing arm on it and I'm running a complete fully polished front end from a Kawasaki zx10 including polished 17in. Zx10 front and back wheels on it with hints of black orange and yellow throughout to blend in with the original Molly graphics other things like polished or color coded Ard magneto and wire's original boost gauge original water injection' OH' and did I forget to mention the color coded big carbon fiber nitrous oxide injection bootle on the side? It's going to have a stock rake and it's going to look as stock as it can body wise but also have that menacing hot rod look' something you would pull up on those young whipper Snapper's on those busa's zx14's and gsxr's with and they would look over and give you a thumbs up for' any I'm asking all turbo Fan's to help me with some guidance and support to get make this happen' after all' at the end of the day you've got to keep these alive and running' please email me with any imput or feedback 13brotatyturbo@gmail.com Thanks Henry.
@Kathleen Shaw True that' I've been following all the funnybike drag racing great for quite some time now on this build' Terry kizer, Keith Lynn Gary Clark Bill Hahn etc. Learning all the tricks of the trade. As soon as I'm done I'm going to do a good video of it' dedicated to These bike's something a little more modern along with a ride along and music in the background for the young generation who Rides hyabusa's gsxrs and zx's can relate to. I'm on the west coast so I'll most likely have some scene's up and down Pacific coast highway along with a couple of friendly grudge race's of me giving a few hyabusa's gsxr's and zx's the blue's oh'and I won't forget to include the Honda's and yam sandwiches in on it too' LoL'
@Kathleen Shaw Nothing like bringing back the Good ol days" This stuff is really in a sense therapy to me' my brother has a convertible Chevy corvair with the turbo' and I'm doing a 1968 VW karmann Ghia convertible with a 2275cc draw through turbo' so I can relate to what you mean.
Question what type of quarter mile time's were you running with that in the 80s?
Want to sell it?
I just completed a total rebuild of my 1974 Z1 with ATP Turbo that was dealer installed back in the day. Mikuni HSR42 carb makes all the difference in running smoothly. The Zenith carb was actually designed for a tractor. Will post a video soon. Nice job on yours!!
What about the wastgate problem. How did you deal with that?
@@orsoncart9441 I was able to clean the old wastegate and get it working, start with it really loose. I'm getting about 6-8 lbs boost now which is max my tuner recommends. I'm also using 100LL avgas to avoid detonation. Let me know if you switch to the Mikuni HSR42 and I'll send your the jetting specs. Cheers! -Kirby
Nice video, thanks very much for putting it out there.
No problem.. I noticed there aren't too many TC videos so I really wanted to capture as much of the bikes detail as possible to share with everyone
you are the owner of the most valuable jewel in the world.
Congratulations
Very cool bike thanks for the video buddy
August 1979, I turned 13yo. My mother ,Doris was a teacher and had brought home that months issue of Car & Driver. An impressionable boys life was forever changed. Proudly I can say thanks to that magazines "Turbo Cas vs Turbo Bike" cover story I have owned a KZ1000 and a 911 Porsche ( no iurbo ownership tho). Both in normally aspirated form were top tier machines and I had a understanding friend with a 930 that i could drive. 40 years later...Nothing has changed . Wonderment still abounds . Thanks Mom I love you
That's a great story, thanks for sharing!!
This to me is THE Bullet Mustang of motorcycles. I have a mint 78 CB550 four K, and I got it only because I couldn't find one of these and it has a similar appearance. Beautiful!
*My congratulations for the video and being able to see a very special motorcycle when it went on sale in Caracas Venezuela I was about to buy it but it was expensive today when I saw the video I can only say that I congratulate the owner of this jewel. Angel.*
like the dramatic music :)
Thanks! I wan't sure what to use at 1st but that song really seemed to fit well with "the story"
That is the bike I rode to Senior skip day in high school. I was working at a Kaw. / Yam. shop at the time.
Very cool!! I wish I was that cool in high school haha
@@PetesClassicCycle I had to do some time to earn the privilege & trust to ride something like that. I started working at the shop at age 14 after school and had to work for free until I turned 15 and could get a work permit. They had kept up with my hours and back paid me and on weekends they saw to it I had a little money for gas and food. I think I was making $2.35 an hour and always had something cool to ride. I like going to Barbers to see all the bikes I put together and test rode.
I hope you check the gas tank for rust and the oil in the crank
That’s a phatass carrrbii boiiiiii
Started right up.after cleaning the crud out.
The fastest stock Turbo bike...................killer!
Bloody fantastic work 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
2:19. Seeing those cheese head period correct philips screws again just gave me the willies. Swapped everything over to hex on my GPz.
I feel your pain... there have been many 4 letter words shared over these screws
@lahokc59 I'm sorry to hear that. Those are great bikes
@@PetesClassicCycle OEM on this were not JIS screws?
My friend Peter gomes had one
Shovelhead carb on a z1r? Hell yea.
Yes sir.. from what I've seen it was fairly common to use them on turbos. ..although I may be wrong
I have the same carb on my shovel. Pretty cool. One day I’ll have a 1978 z1r...
The '79 Z1R TC always puzzled me since the Z1R was only manufactured in 1978 and 1980.
The '79 has the earlier 1978 head and valve cover
It was my belief that it was made from 78-79. 250 each year. None produced in '80
@@PetesClassicCycle but they did not make a 1979 Z1R, I had a 1980, The gas filler was in the middle of the tank instead of on the right side on mine.
@@ejohnson3837 the 1980 is different as mentioned. This is the earlier Z1R from 78-79.
@@PetesClassicCycle You just told him there was no 1980 model made, then you tell him the 1980 model was different!! Which is it????
@@milojanis4901 I was referring to the turbo specific model put together by ATP for Kawasaki in 1978 and 1979. The standard NONE TURBO Z1R was produced in 1980 as well
wish we could hear it going 80/90
Same here :(
Unfortunately at the time of rebuild the motor was brand new so it still needed to be broken in.
would you be willing to sell any of the z1's?
I'm sorry, I don't have any motorcycles for sale
Ditch the music mate!
That would be the molly graffics turbo i hope
It is
What is that brown stuff leaking down his leg
That would be the poop that snuck out when the boost came on
Open Filter become a big problem in rainy day.....
I OWNED Light Blue Metalic 1978 KAWASAKI Z1R-TC 1000 TURBO , It's NIC name is called the Death Machine:), Is this one forsale?????
Very cool!! I can understand where the name came from. Unfortunately this bike sold earlier this year.
@@PetesClassicCycle How much did it sell for?
@@Mr.Consitution I prefer not to disclose that publicly, sorry
Had one and sold it about 10years ago whyyyyyyy shit😬😬😬😢
What about you beautiful nice job
Why people insist on music,Should be hearing that amazing bike bro.......
Bro is dis bike for sale ?
Sorry, none of the bikes featured are available
the sound cuts out at .20!!!!!
Unfortunately UA-cam cut the audio years ago due to copyright claims with the music. I have a new version recently uploaded if you'd like to see that instead.
Hey turn the music off 😉
Not good to start revving a turbo seconds after starting it.
I understand what you mean but with this particular bike because of the design of the intake etc it even states right in the official kawasaki manual to keep the RPM between 3-4K. Otherwise fuel pools up in the intake manifold and it starts to starve itself and not run right.
It cannot have been run much the spyder header should be blue.
Good eye. It just came from a complete restoration.
Don't you ever get rid of that piece f history.
Cool bike, I had one 40 years ago. But seriously, it runs like shit.. needs a lot of tuning to run clean.
Not runing right sounds shocking.
Sounds shocking?
@@PetesClassicCycle I had an ATP and that's not running right far to rough exhaust sound. A simple tweek as you ride along of the Bendix carb would put it right. But I think that bike has the non standard Mikuni which cannot be altered on the move. That was the reason a Bendix was used along with the fact it was a butterfly also.
Sounds like two stroke that’s rich and not cleared out.
Such Sad Music.... like someone Died!!!
