For the algorithm: rip and tear!

BMWs are not meant to be "cruisers" or "luxury bikes." They're meant to be used and abused.
In my experience having owned 4 Beemers, don't baby them. "Ride it like you stole it."
They can take it. I would even argue that Beemers are one of those machines that suffer more problems from dis-use and "babying" than use/abuse.
The are definitely built for more "real world" conditions.

I have heard that if you break these boxer twins in too softly, they burn oil for a long time, but if you rip around for the first 1000 mileage or so, they break in more properly and burn much less to none. Is that true in your experience as well?

@@PastorMattMoto it seems to be a side stand issue. I always use a center stand, and have zero oil loss. They are made to run forever. In the 80s, I belonged to a million mile club. The crank bearings are the only reason to tear the engine down. Top end overhauls are easy. BMW supports their boxers forever with parts. Unless you totally trash the frame and whole bike, they are rebuildable forever. But my knowledge is pre electronics 😊
They are not high rpm engines. They're aircraft engines. Horizontal opposed are used by Lycoming+Continental, which supply engines to reciprocating aircraft like Cessnas. Mainly, because they have a record of safety due to simplicity; and good torque and light weight.
IMHO, it is important to be diligent in servicing them as specified.

Try using all the gears, the boxer engine has so much low to mid range torque that it doesn’t need to be bounced off the rev limiter or held at the upper part of the rev range

That's true, it does have plenty of low end power! It can still be fun at the top end as well, but on the Pure version you just have to feel it out, since there's no tach to tell you where you actually are in the rev range :p

I agree, it’s definitely a bike that takes a bit of time to understand in someways but once you’re there it’s very rewarding, I’m lucky to have a few bikes but the R9T is definitely a keeper, you end up loving it a little more after every ride

What made you choose this over the XSR900 you reviewed a few weeks ago? I see that bike is $6,600 now, which is an absolute steal IMO, especially considering the mileage.

I actually just went to give the Xsr900 another look this afternoon at the dealership, and it sold just before I got there!
I went for this 22 R Ninet because they are so hard to find at a good price in my area, so when I saw this come up, I ran over and grabbed it.
The xsr900 suspension was too squishy for me, during the test ride. I was going over there today to see if we could stiffen it up a bit, then take it out again....but no such luck :p

@PastorMattMoto Sounds like someone else will be enjoying that XSR. Congrats on the NineT, it's also a phenomenal bike! Ride safe, and thanks for the awesome video content. 🫡
