  • The Linn Cove Viaduct is the most recognizable feature, and the most photographed section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Linn Cove viaduct is an engineering marvel. It was built to float around the mountain’s contours making minimal contact with the ground. Driving on it doesn’t feel like driving at all, it feels like you’re gliding. It was constructed at an elevation of 4100 feet above sea level, providing breath taking views of the surrounding mountains. One of the primary goals during construction was to minimize environmental impact. Located in Avery County, North Carolina, about 30 minutes outside of Boone, Linn Cove Viaduct is surrounded by the highest peaks of the Appalachian Mountains. In the last chapter, taking you across and back again on the Linn Cove Viaduct.

Glad I found your channel. My wife and I ( and our 60lb lap dog) are going to visit the parkway for four nights this coming 4th of July. We rented a place in Sylva on top of a mountain pass. We plan on going to the parade at midnight and then the drone/fireworks show Thursday night. We want to check out the pow wow in Cherokee but not sure about bringing the dog, he comes everywhere with us. We also plan on going horseback riding down a creek to a waterfall. Also alot of just driving, I love driving and seeing the scenery, stop from a stroll. What is your list of must do's and must see's along the parkway? Please hit me with all you got
    Thanks
Until then I'll be binge watching

You've given me a an idea for a video, "Must do's on the parkway." lol I guess it depends on how much of the Parkway you want to see. When people ask me about driving the whole parkway, I normally recommend driving 4 or 5 hours daily, hitting overlooks, and hiking portions of the AT for about 4 hours. There a popular creek hlke south of where we made this video that I recommend. There are signs for it, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. It's really nice.
Make sure you have a Parkway map, and do some map work before you go to find good places for Sunsets and Sunrises. This time of year the sunsets are amazing. I think it's called the African winds. But it has to do with sand that comes across the Atlantic and gets in the atmosphere making the sunsets a little more colorful. If you have a decent telescope, sometimes (and I do stress sometimes) overlooks are great places for stargazing. In NC it really depends on the fog. Believe it or not, we even drive the Parkway at night to look for deer and bear. (Drive real slow). I've even stopped on overlooks at night, and use a deer grunt, or another call and watch different animals come to investigate.
It sounds like you're just going to be in NC. Driving 441 from Cherokee to Gatlinburg and back to the Parkway is always nice. It's like a Parkway extension. On the 4th 441 will be crowded, but the crowds don't make the views any less impressive. What's funny is that we've been on the Parkway on the 4th many times but traffic is consistent with the rest of summer.
The truth is that the Parkway was designed to be a totally different experience depending on the season, and even time of day. We've driven 100 miles one way and turned around to drive back and it seems like you're on a different road.
Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting! I'll do my best to answer any other questions!

Can you make a playlist for the Blue a ridge Parkway of the vids on your channel? I’m leaving Saturday night 11pm and driving all through the night to enter the Parkway around 6-7AM and start my drive… Coming from NJ and going all the way to Cherokee I can’t wait might go to St.Augustine FL after than back to NJ depending how much time I spend on the blue ridge!

You’re going to have a blast! I’m stuck on a runway in Philadelphia because of the weather in NY. Probably going to miss our connecting flight! This moment Id rather be on the Parkway. We have a BRPW playlist! Thank you for watching and commenting!
