Thanks Mr Flash it's always helpful when a follow viewer can identify an unknown item Darren shows. I've sent him some tips as well at times that he has mentioned in following vids
It looks like the boats you would see in water shows in Florida from the 1960s thru the 1980s. Thanks for the info on the manufacturer, that's interesting.
I can just imagine the conversation that went on before this thing got brought in; "Can I have it? No. Can I play with it? No. Can I fix it? Oh okay then!!!" :P
Wow! I havent seem one of these since the early sixties! I had twenty of these in Miami bEach. I rented them out for 1/2 our rides at major hotels. They were manufactured in Miami and had a 6 hp Eveinrude engine in them. For me their was a tragic story attached to these little boats. We had two men at each lovcation and we would just have one man on on the two handles on the back and one on the front and we would just haul the boat to the water from the beach and put the rider on. I got so that I could rebuild one of those engines in a half hour.I had nno idea that any of these still existed!. The name of the boat from the manufacturer at the time was Hydro Scooter.
This is the reason I watch your videos, you lowerd that boat and drop that engine right into a bucket of water which proves to me you think out of the box ,that's very cool
VERY cool of the owner to allow you to wrench on this fun little beast for the enjoyment of all us tool freaks. If I'm not getting filthy, I'm watching someone else get filthy
My first ever car breakdown was on a very rainy day in the UK on the mororway, the 1980 Ford started coughing, I limped off and the breakdown diagnosis was absence of grease on the points. I'd only owned the car a few months and whoever changed them didn't grease the new set of points and they overheated. I'm pretty sure 30 years later I still have the tub of grease I bought back then!
I have one of these in my backyard. I had never seen another until today. Great to see how the engine was installed as mine is in pieces from the previous owner. Someday....
OMC = Outboard Marine Corp. which made Evinrude and Johnson motors at a big plant in Peterborough Ontario, about 80 miles NE of Toronto. Service parts are still readily available.
Hello Mustie1 from Augusta, GA! LOVE Your work, your shop and the way You bring us in asking what we think. I’m a self taught fix it guy since childhood and learn something from You every video. I just want to thank You for all that you do. Thank You, Sir….
Had one as a kid, it was awesome. Almost would get on plane, with me in it. I was less than 60 pounds at the time. Way more fun than the previous boat that was a 6 foot molded plastic boat with an electric trolling motor. The boat originally had a molded in fuel tank, iirc.
I watched your jet ski videos this week, I think on Wednesday and Thursday and they were great to watch with a run on the lake, hopefully we will witness this rather peculiar little boat performing in there too. Love it!
Really enjoy your videos , and they bring back a lot of good memories of how I enjoyed working on some of the projects that you take on. Keep up the good work . It look like you are having fun.
I have a 1970 9.5hp Johnson outboard that looks and sounds just like this one, except the carb is set up a little different. Pops bought it used in '77, I got it in the mid 90's and has run great the whole time, still going strong. Only needed a fuel pump ~25 yrs ago and a water pump ~ 15 yrs ago. Great motor!
Nice to see someone using wire cutters and levering against the spindle to get the cotter / split pin out. Easiest and best way but hardly anyone ever does it correctly.
The motor is Evinrude the leg is Mercury 38:23 OMC made Johnson, Evinrude (other than the name, they are the same motor). However before 1935 Johnson & Evinrude were competitors, in 1935 OMC bought Johnson, in the mid 50's OMC moved from Illinois to Peterborough Ontario and then back to Illinois in 1990 by the end of the 90's OMC was bankrupt and in 2001 Bombardier of Quebec bought OMC and kept the Evinrude name instead of Johnson, those of us that are old salties, will tell you that Johnson was the better motor, and Bombardier made a mistake selling them as Evinrude, they would have sold a heck of a lot more, if they sold them as Johnson.
Hey Mustie: It is a Hydromite II. I actually have one that was buried under a bunch of stuff at a cottage we bought. I am missing the lower end but hope to get it running so your video is a very nice surprise today.
Good job! Looking forward to the next video and the new maiden voyage. I have a 40hp Johnson from around that era. I used it on my really old aluminum extra wide Jon boat after the airboat prop disintegrated. Had very rough performance until I had a late friend loan me his shop manual and it had instructions for setting the points with a degree wheel. Made a world of difference and used I it for years after that. Now it is setting in the backyard and probably needs a Mustie to get it going again.
Awesome find. You should ditch that engine and prop systen and convert it with a jetski motor. That would ve an awesome conversion to see and learn from. Great video as always ✌🤙
Hi D. That would be a blast at the lake!! Don’t know how you can always find the coolest toys to get running again. I think this one is right up there with the motorcycle handle bar blender, lol. Can’t wait to see you get it to the lake!!! Awesome video as always. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!! Hope you are feeling better!!😊😊😊 Darren
Hey Mustie lad, nice to see you here. Hope you are OK after your kidney troubles. My father had similar problems and after visiting the bathroom one night, passed out with the pain and woke up next morning on the floor. Hope that doesn't happen to you. Thanks for sharing and best regards from Ireland.
Yes, you gotta show this thing puttin on the water. Iam surprised the carb and pump functioned as they did, I was prepared for a no-go on this one. Good save. 😮
Lucky you. All that new content. Of course being old like me and having a poor memory, I can often rewatch videos 6 months later and they seem like new to me.
Man I had a blue one that was a 20 HP when I was little man it was awesome and fast for what it was , my id/vin was under the front hatch above the steering if that helps but man brings back some of them go ol days memories , keep up the good work bro !
Thanks mate, this is going to help Me to fix an engine.. same issues. Needs new or fixed points. Im a total noob when it comes to this stuff so any help or guidance is much appreciated. Cheers.
Mustie1, ur awesome engineer of lets see what this thing does is off the charts.. congrats on finally getting OLD THING up and running.. u are too big to ride on-it.
2 cups of coffee later and now you just started your next day video. I hope your neck and stones have gotten better. I know my neck hurts after 6 work hours bent over, and your way more physical than I am. I know those days that your off, it's like Damn, now what's on TV! Stay healthy
You can sit in the seat and start it with your battery powered drill. I like the way the cooling water sprays out next to driver so you can monitor it.
35:26 From the colour it looks like a johnson and if so, that black knob is the rich/lean knob so you can adjust it depending on the elevation you're operating at.
Looking forward to the video when you test run this in the water (hopefully no leaks 😭) 👍. Great job + video mustie on getting it running 😉. I'm from the uk 😀.
Growing up, we had 3 families on our small lake with similar boats. They all had separate outboard motors mounted in back. Since I live in the land of OMC, we of course had 1 family with Johnson, 1 with Evinrude, and 1 with Mercury.
Good Sunday morning to all ✝️ Thanks mustie for another wrenching and project. And remember everyone seek Jesus Christ in your heart and life for he is the true answer through everything we endure in this old evil world 🙏✝️👍💪
This has to be the best channel for explanations for what he's doing, what he expects to find, what's missing, how components work, etc, etc. So good.
Its mid to late 60s Hydroglas ind. inc Hydro-Mite 9hp Johnson, built in Michigan then Florida before they went bust
Thanks Mr Flash it's always helpful when a follow viewer can identify an unknown item Darren shows. I've sent him some tips as well at times that he has mentioned in following vids
I was thinking it was a Johnson
Thanks man, I didn't know about the boat , but it looks like a J motor....
It’s a Johnson 6 hp not a 9 hp
It looks like the boats you would see in water shows in Florida from the 1960s thru the 1980s. Thanks for the info on the manufacturer, that's interesting.
The world needs more people like you. Thank you for your kindness!
Mustie1 is one of the rare guys that works really hard to achieve fun in the end. Love it!!!
I love your comment, wish I could approve it 10 times!
Good to see Krusty again
I can just imagine the conversation that went on before this thing got brought in;
"Can I have it? No. Can I play with it? No. Can I fix it? Oh okay then!!!"
:P
😄. I think you hit the nail
Johnson 8hp. NNKH just did a video looks the same
Google
FREE 8hp Johnson sitting since the 90's VS 10ft Kids Boat - NNKH
@@MelicoyDo you have a channel where I could see your video?

Liar
I would check the condition of the water pump impeller before running it very long. It's probably brittle and in poor condition
What is the tragic story?
I may have ridden /rented one from you around 1968 in Miami when I was 12 years old. I remember it well!
@@bobcranberries5853sorry it’s a bit gruesome. But suffice it to say. It shut me down at all my locations and I lost the business.
Hour long video of Mustie tinkering with another mans johnson. Perfect, i'll put the kettle on.
Lmao
LMAOOOOOOOOOO That funny, good one.
😂
Good one!!!
doesnt that boat remind you of a amusement park bumper boat. They had the engine in the front too.
I had to wash my hands after 10 minutes of watching :D
Awesome video, as always! Cheers from Poland ;)
Your mechanical abilities are second to none! I always enjoy your vids greatly!
The patented Mustie1 giggle at 1:04:20. We love it. Thanks for sharing your passions, Mr. Mustie. We appreciate.
And “It’s Alive “!
Looks like a six horse Johnson based on the non-exhaust prop.. Cool find!! a few cold beers and a late afternoon ride around the lake. Priceless.
Happy Sunday Mustie1 fans !! What a perfect start to my day, very cool unit !! Looking forward to the finish up video !
This is the reason I watch your videos, you lowerd that boat and drop that engine right into a bucket of water which proves to me you think out of the box ,that's very cool
Nothing beats a good sunday morning mustie1 video. Thks
Can't wait till you get it in the water. Keep us updated. this was enjoyable to watch . Thanks Mustie !!
VERY cool of the owner to allow you to wrench on this fun little beast for the enjoyment of all us tool freaks. If I'm not getting filthy, I'm watching someone else get filthy
He's getting it for free. Probably if the owner hadn't let him take it, it would've been a manana project
My first ever car breakdown was on a very rainy day in the UK on the mororway, the 1980 Ford started coughing, I limped off and the breakdown diagnosis was absence of grease on the points. Thanks for the shop time Mustie1! Cool project, looking forward to part two!
Awesome! I've been craving some of your videos recently. I hope you're staying safe, we have all been missing you
Mustie always surprises me with these treasures. Keep it up!
We had these in manmade canals and used to pilot them along a bumper course for 5,INS or. So. Hey we're 5. At the time
Miss ya Mustie,see ya soon.
Dude! I am in Canada and the best thing we get in my area at a garage sale is a cool beer mug! The stuff you find! WOW!
Absolutely correct here at Eliminator Performance in Ontario we pay the scrappers to bring mowers for cash.
I have one of these in my backyard. I had never seen another until today. Great to see how the engine was installed as mine is in pieces from the previous owner. Someday....
Nice to see Crusty again!! Love that truck!
Good to see Crusty out and about again 🙂
Sunday just got better! Greetings from England. Hope you are feeling better Mustie.
Awesome and outstanding content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Looks like the precursor to the jet ski looking forward to seeing it float and go. ThAnks again Darren.
Standard OMC armature plate, coils, points setup. All the parts are still available.

I was really surprised at that.

When I first saw what he'd be working on I wasn't too excited. But, as usual, once I started watching I was hooked. Love watching Mustie1 videos.

Looks like an Evinrude Yachttwin 3hp, I think I gave you a couple outboards a few years ago that should have parts that will work on that.

pretty cool little toy Thanks Mustie
Great job Darren, it runs awesome…
This looks fun! We were just talking about flea boats. The drive looks..... challenging though.
Good to see Crusty. Glad it’s ok. 😎

Glad to see your doing good from your rocks hope they past like the wind
Another great video

That rod with the know is the lean richness adjustment you lean to idle and open up to middle or more if running hard
Love this and the last project (mower). You find some of the oddest coolest funniest projects. I'm not even and engine guy. I'm a pinball guy.
35:26 From the colour it looks like a johnson and if so, that black knob is the rich/lean knob so you can adjust it depending on the elevation you're operating at.
My guess is the scotch locks Failed. Those are not the way to connect anything. Only use proper crimping or solder and shrink tube on a boat.
Those are the all time worst connector, but non electricians don't know this.
The connection gets corroded so easily, then the connection fails.
Looking forward to the video when you test run this in the water (hopefully no leaks 😭) 👍. Great job + video mustie on getting it running 😉. I'm from the uk 😀.
