With respect, as a frustrated student only hours away from my dissertation deadlines, when I watch a video about how to reference, I expect clear and direct instructions, not two minutes of lecturing about what plagiarism is and why you shouldn't do it, because obviously (given the fact I am watching the video on how to properly reference), I already understand the importance of not plagiarising others work.
Explains in detail in-text referencing, glazes over book references, and nothing about other types of references. Either do a reference video or don't. Don't half ass one. In academic terms, I give this an F.
One thing that always aggravated me about referencing is not knowing if the original idea that you have had been attributed to another person before of the 6 billion people on the planet - chances are it is not but does that mean that you have to search for each thought every had by humanity. THat would take forever and be cramping to my writing style. In some cases, the idea may be known to all - like "the sky is blue" in which case you don't need to cite but it does get murky in other areas where some specialists might know what your talking about whereas other subject specialists might not.
I am a student as well and I don't see any value in writing these, especially if it has to be long, like why? I wanna be an engineer, not a writer, if anything I want to reduce it to be compact and efficient so the next person doesn't have to read walls of texts about nothing, but I'm forced to do the opposite and I hate it! ( Sorry it came out here)
This video was so god damn patronising it was difficult to watch, and it didn't help that over 2 minutes of this 4 minute video is wasted between a pointless introduction at the start and an ad for the site at the end. And after all that I still don't know how to format referencing a formula or scientific law. More courses exist and need to know how to reference than just English.
you're too entitled, and you think everything is about you. that's the only reason you would feel patronized by a fucking video meant for everyone. the world doesn't revolve around you, dude.
I love how now apparently criticizing a terribly done instructional video is a sign of being entitled, booty-blasted, or narcissistic. It's a video that was supposed to teach people "How to reference", and I thought it did a terrible job of that. Do you guys really place "Swinburne Online" on such a holy, untouchable pedestal that any criticism of it is tantamount to war?
Thank you for this video!! I'm just wondering how can I reference a film. I'm writing an essay on the film '8 Mile' and was wondering how to reference that movie and also specific sections in the movie I am talking about. if anybody could help that would be much appreciated. -Tom
@ComeOnYouFoxes Thanks but i did but because I was on half term break they was too so they were not getting back to me. Also for you to be on this video clearly proves you need to know how to harvard reference something too lol
I didn't even get any point from this video, I was barely glancing at the examples you gave. If you are going to teach someone, do it properly. I'm giving this video a dislike. So annoying!!!

I'm sorry to say this but almost 90% of your video is not really about HOW to reference......
I started falling asleep about 30 seconds into this video.

What about referencing a website

Easiest way of citation
Thanks however it'll be much more useful to show us exactly what the format of Harvard Style Referencing is.
WAIT !!! It's a crap video.. don't waste your time here, find info about citation or referencing somewhere else.
In this age when referencing can be automatically done on MS Word, we should manually crosscheck our citations...smh.
