DC comics HawkWorld. During 1989, it starts as a three issue mini-series written & drawn by Tim Truman. It's a really good Hawkman story with Hawkgirl eventually showing up. This leads into the HawkWorld ongoing series (from 1990 till 1993, with 32 issues and 3 annuals) and the ongoing series gets VERY AWESOME as it goes on. It's Hawkgirl (Hawkwoman) and Hawkman in superhero / COPS style scenarios. Written by John Ostrander, the ongoing series is REALLY awesome (and HawkWorld, specifically the ongoing series, has the best Hawkwoman and Hawkman stories in DC comics history. It kicks ass. It's also stories that won't be replicated in modern day DC comics since the HawkWorld ongoing series is VERY Pro-Cops. Granted, Hawkwoman is like a Dirty Harry style cop (sometimes mixed with the Punisher at times) while Hawkman is the good cop who plays by the book (arguably sometimes too much, but it's needed to balance out Hawkwoman's Dirty Harry style), but it's a Pro-Cop story... HawkWorld is something that won't be allowed in modern day DC comics. If it were allowed, it would most likely be like this current day 2023 HawkGirl comic, which is really terrible).
It's my theory that the cost for running DC and Marvel is such a small amount compared to everything else that Warner and Disney does that they can basically operate indefinitely, even if they lose a ton of money. DC and Marvel are such colossal failures that I don't know what they could do at this point to be shut down.
They have a loss leader with the comics. They are small fry in the larger corporate structures that they exist in meanwhile those corporates gain ESG points from the Equity and (non) Diversity that they pump out in the comics - and this means that Blackrock et al will invest their clients money into them
I want to know when everyone lost their calculators and switched over to spending their feelings.. wanting to see 2 fat lezzers nosh off in their comics instead of cultivating a healthy bottom line..
Might not be the topic of the video, but one thing sure stood out to me. Its been a long time since I read a comic book, those ads are unreal! Literally every 2nd page! how long have they been this watered down? It looks like its 50% ads.
Bro this is so sad... I remember as a kid looking up to the idea of heroes. Saving others, conquering bad odds, always following your morals. God damn so sad what it has become
Az, I don't know why I've not heard this idea from anyone before but when I worked in a comic book store in Ohio in the 90s, we had a small area sectioned off from the mainstream titles that was clearly labeled GAY COMICS. Retailers just need to create that section for books in their stores if they don't already have one, and put all the DC titles there. That way, readers have a clear indication of the book's content before they buy it. Especially if a publisher has changed a character's sexuality and that change has now become the focus of the book.
We had that at our local video stores in the 80's and 90's too. It was a niche market and most people wandering through the shelves didn't want to come across those movies so they just set them aside. No big deal, nobody screamed about being oppressed, probably because the only people who heard it were the people in the store and not their 100k followers on social media.
"Excuse me, where's the new Superman #18?" "In the Gay Section." "Oh... Well, how about Batman #7?" "Gay Section." "Green Lantern?" "Gay." "Hawkgirl? Spider-man? Dare Devil? Hulk?" "All gay." :|
The problem with that is no one wants to see their favorite character that has been established for years to be changed for no real reason and by doing so destroying them in the process. Plus if a villain is attacking a city and a hero says that he is gay or if another hero said that they are a they/them and this is when the villain would laugh at them and just kill them anyway for that villain doesn't give a damn about their sexuality or their pronouns. When we say make your own comics or stories we mean that. But the problem with that is that they do not have the talent or the merit or respect for the old stuff and so that is why they change the old stuff and that is an insult.
@@JustTooDamnHonest "...the problem with that is that they do not have the talent or the merit or respect for the old stuff" - very true, but it sounds like you're still giving these new 'modern' authors way too much credit. It's not like they read comics as kids and admired the characters and wanted to re-create what they loved about them. They're late-comers to the art, just like in film and TV and literature, and only see it as a vehicle for promoting their social agendas. If one of them HAD been a comics fan as a kid, saw some aspect of their favorite hero that didn't jibe with the mainstream view of them and wanted to explore that aspect in a new comic, I could at least respect their effort - because they were coming at it as a fan of the art. Even terrible writing and story structure could be seen as an amateur's attempt to recreate something. But they're not even doing that. They're barging their way into fandoms, taking them over in order to subvert characters and stories that represent what they hate. It's not merely a lack of talent, it's more malevolent than that.
@@Raskolnikov70 Thank you for agreeing what is obvious and correction I wasn't giving these "new modern authors" any credit for I was calling them out for being hacks(which they are) and trying is not doing. I read a few comics in my life. But my jump into the world of comics was the TV shows of the 80s and 90s and that is where I saw one of my all time favorite superhero in Batman(he is my number 3 in my top 5 fictional characters list). So in truth no matter how you look at it for it all started with BlackRock who poisoned Disney and it spread to the point where everything in entertainment turned into woke BS and as time past the cracks were showing and so they started hiring activists with no talent or merit or skill or respect for the source material and their views of the world is completely anti to the comic characters in question and since they know that they can't make their own they co-opt established characters of long standing IPs and pollute them with their narrow minded views and twisting ironic characters into something that is not them and the situation in entertainment went from bad to worse and now the strikes and people rejecting the trash that has come out within the past 9 years. There are a few talents within the woke trash in Hollywood and it is those whom I feel for since they are going to be getting the shaft along with the hacks. I have been calling the woke out since the ST of Disney Star Wars and I'm not stopping until Hollywood comes to its senses(most likely they will not) and if not then we support the indie scene and they are turning up some good material both comic wise and indie film wise, but they are few in-between and yet we still have a taste for it. But Hollywood is losing its once mighty paying customer and it we can see the bleeding and it is getting worse and AI is not a universal cure all and as long as those woke mandates and checkbox requirements are on then Hollywood will continue to bleed until there is nothing left.
This is unfortunate. I was a DC guy in anocean of Marvel guys. I collected until 2009 and quit. I remember DC being really good for a long time, it's sad.
I hear you. It was a sad day I hung up my DC badge and walked away. I recognised that DC just didn’t want me as a fan or a customer anymore, after almost twenty years of loyalty. But hey! I have my old collection and the old animateds. And so do we all. Life is still good 😊
As always I've never had an issue with characters being gay, etc. My only problem is them forcing it into everything and using it to defend terrible writing.
The problem is intrinsic to the perversion. There is no satiation point w/ some of these creatures. They rebel for the sake of rebellion. They are at war with what is, unappeasable misery monsters. Just wait till furries become part of the LGBTQ2S-AIF!!
I just don't understand why we need to know who EVERY character is fucking. I mean, it's Hawkgirl. Not exactly a high tier character. Do we really need to know her relationship status or should she just be out there saving the planet? We truly don't need to know the sexuality of every single character in the DC or Marvel universes. It's just annoying. That and they're turning everyone gay anyway so it's not even a surprise anymore. Nor is it even original.
Wow, I'm surprised, half of that comic is just ads of other comics... Is worse than the free apps, you read 1 page and ad page, another page and 2 ad page, damn.
My recollection is superhero comics used to be 90% the fun adventure and action and 10% the personal life stuff. Looks like these days it's the other way round.
It's because those chronically stuck on Twitter think fictional characters have modern progressive feelings. That nonsense of action, adventure, aspirational characters must now be tokenized and appease that minority that never read these comics and characters we loved.
When self-insert fanfiction writers get the actual writer job. Like - imagine a young boy without any context of culture war and such - picking up a comic like that. He will not be angry, he would just be very confused and deside that comics lame and go find something else to do
I just don't get it, man. They don't seem to even be telling stories at this point. It's just sexual perversion wish fulfillment over and over and over again. Can't figure out what to do with Tim Drake? Well, let's queer him up, because the shippers have been clamoring for that for years. Jon Kent dull as dishwater? Better queer him up too! Who even knows Hawkgirl's personality at this point due to the character being retconned to hell and back. What an absolute mess. If these people are "writing what they know" then they lead very depraved and pointless existences. Why would you allow your company to be overtaken by this? The sales numbers don't lie. People do not want to read this dreck.
I had the unfortunate luck of getting TWO copies of that Jon Kent pink haired boy kiss book in multipacks on the same day. As soon as I pulled it out i thought, "I'll bet this is the gay kiss book" and yep, it was. They keep it till the last page of the book but it's there just the same. Lucky me I got the regular and variant cover. Maybe I can sell the set for five bucks or something.

Try some of the preserved history of Hawkgirl, found in Alter Ego. Yes, ancient fanzine stuff. Roy Thomas fleshed out ALL the old characters, the Golden Age canon is well documented, the new membership just may do the same into your era of interest. Black Orchid is a strange origin.

Those those industries is also facing issues. Manga also has a ped*phile problem. I doubt any of you read anything other than North American comics. You guys never know what you are talking about when it comes to manga and most of you were against manga before the quarantine. You people just worship Japanese people because you believe Japanese manga isn't "woke" or has degenerate content. You clearly never read a mainstream manga or maybe you are deliberately lying or delusional. Take a pick. Manga has been losing sales in the last ten years in NA. Also depending on what category or demographic you are viewing Shojo manga tend to have less sales that shonen manga and action series are more popular than slice of life series. Many companies has shut down divisions or moved out of the U.S. and Canada due to low sales or copyright issues. Manga are often serialized in magazines by different publishers so comparing manga to DC or Marvel as if manga is one entity is misleading. There are many reasons why a manga would lose sales. The stories are losing their originally and the art isn't very appealing. I see very few series in the Jump magazines in English that are decently written and isn't filled with scenes sexualizing children, abuse or s*icide. Manhwa (Korean comics) has similar issues. There is a reason why some people are skeptical of certain manga series particularly manga and manhwa series especially manga labeled "seinen" I keep hearing in the anime community that the industry is "struggling" and in the comic book community that it isn't. It's strange that people keep using sales of manga against U.S. comics as if both can't co-exist or sales makes manga more superior to comics. Both manga and comics has their pros and cons. I explained all this before on this channel. Many manga has the same cringe messages like any other form of literature. However the unlike in the States or in Canada I doubt most mangaka who push this crap into their stories actually believe what they write. I know I'm possibly the only manga reader on this channel but you guys should research more about this industry or at least read manga instead bringing it up needlessly. I find it bizarre how little comics readers know about any other media other than comics. I read other kinds and types of literature and I watch TV shows that aren't related to manga and comics. Why is it so hard for guys to do the same? It's embarrassing.
I walked from comics when the genderswapping/DEI/ESG happened at Marvel... never looked back... Walked from the MCU when it became the M-she-U... DC is copying Marvel's train wreck... nothing new here... Not looking back...
When I was a kid in middle school (I'm 42 now) I dreamed of being a comic book artist/writer, because I wanted to create in the same world as the greats that came before me, Kirby, Ditko, Romita and so many more. The current state of comics is a massive slap in the face to the legacy that it once was. Hope you're doing well Az ✌️

Anyone who has ever been involved in a fan community in any way knows there is always some jackass who insists on dragging their fetish into whatever that world is. Then they make that fetish the most important part of everyone's experience until everything is ruined. Then they move onto another fandom, dragging their fetish with them and ruining that fandom too. These writers are those jackasses, now getting paid to do what they used to do for free on various fan sites.

I just started to collect comics again. Of course I am buying back issues when it comes to DC and Marvel. I sold my old collection and I am wanting to rebuild. It will take awhile.
Well, for a moment i thought they were using AI to write the comic dialogues, but i doubt even they could manage to warp AI into something that insane... Any AI would probably try to run away before being involved in something like that.
Glad that you have suggestions in the end. I fell off on collecting comics and art around 2010 back when "current day" things were just "tumblr/sjw" shit seeping in. Seems like they fully took over Disney and Warner now so I don't have mainstream options anymore.
The Sideshave Girl Funko Pops and their twenty variants have been loaded onto dump trucks and transported directly from the factory to the landfill. They’re cutting out the middle man!
The people at DC and marvel comics don't seem to get that to create the "next big IP" they have to create something that's actually popular with the customers.(yes customers not consumers)
The fact that Bionicle, a toyline for kids, had better comics than this, is just pathetic. Those comics were basically just a fancy ad for the toys. But back then, LEGO and DC knew that the best way to sell those toys was to make them look super cool. So they hired writers and artists with the skill to do just that. They didn't pander or preach to anyone, and they didn't treat their audience like idiots. They just wrote cool stories with cool characters. And yet, they somehow still managed to turn non-human toys into interesting and relatable characters, while inspiring positive virtues in kids. Imagine that! Plus, actual story content aside, the way these new books are like 60% ads is disgusting. You get what? 14 pages of actual story in a 30 page book? That's just insulting.
That bit about them writing not for customers but for future IP royalty checks, felt like they looked at Manga and tried to copy its business model. Unfortunately, they missed two important steps: - Web novel > Light novel > Manga > Anime, some of our favourites come to us through this method. A period of refinement that is lacking in Western Binge Culture. - Those that went Manga > Anime, how many one-shots had to be summited before they got picked up (and managed to garner enough support to continue) serialisation. Very different from DC/Marvel printing to fill a quota and then having Diamond shit it out to all its captured audiences.
Your rant is something to behold, and brings out many a chuckle when watching your videos. I understand your anger completely. As a teenager, all my weekly allowance would go to comics, both DC and Marvel. I collected them well into the 90s. Still have a box of them upstairs, and reread them on occasion. Will be holding on to these for dear life. Some of them have been read to pieces because the story telling was just so good. Seeing what they put out these days is so utterly depressing. What absolute sh¡te, it's an insult to the paper it's printed on.
Oh my god... I haven't read comics in years and I never imagined the state of comics was this low! I'm speechless. How come they haven't gone bankrupt yet...
If all they were doing was "writing stories for future IPs," they wouldn't be releasing them as independent products to be bought by the comic book audience, they'd just be writing scripts.
We need a FNT comic series. Imagine how much fun it would be to get super hero characters based off the whole crew going out and fighting against "Modern Ideological Garbage" as the villain. Flip She Hulks narrative on the twat waffles head. 🤘🤘🤘🤘

This garbage comic book will EPIC FAIL to be the hit the writer, artist, and PUBLISHER desperately hope it will be, because the writer and artist made it for themselves, and ONLY THEMSELVES- no one else wants to read this garbage story, or see the garbage art. And DC Comics wonders why it's not making any money. Seriously, HIRE BETTER TALENT- PAY YOUR TALENT MORE, if necessary!

This is because their entire ideology and ethos is based solely on BAD MENTAL HEALTH!!! They are all one psychotic break away from a lobotomy!!!! You cant expect them to keep their own moral ideals in check when they cant even go the day without crying out in victimhood!!!
If DC made a comic where a man hit on a woman and then she burst into his bedroom half naked and seemingly unconscious, there would be outrage.
More of these videos please. Current day comic's getting ripped a new one by a veteran comic book reader is content gold
Miss those days when UA-camrs would do that 🎉

Az swore off buying new DC comics though so there’s no way he can do that.
@@SumDumGy I know and I respect him for that decision. I made the same choice, but we could send super chats so he could buy them second hand for our entertainment
@@farawayfindlay4775 I quit watching a few minutes in. I don’t find any entertainment value in this, but that’s me.
Not only that, look at all those ads, its like having a potato chip bag full of air.
"I'm exploring who I am, I'm divorced, gay, I might not be a woman"
Jesus christ, multiple self inserts from the writer. Everything I don't want from a comic 😂
Then it's "F*** you Cops" from a women who beats criminals to death with a mace 😂
That was one of my favorite sections of the entire video because it shows how ridiculous comics have become.😂
I feel dumber just watching this video....even with AZ's amazing commentary!
Compared this shite too the legendary comics of old, no wonder the graded comic market is in the shitter....thankfully I dont have mine for financial profit, but it still hurts!
Comic book shops ran by muppets who can’t do math is another big drag on the graded market.
Anyone else notice every two pages is an ad for the other comics people probably won't read??
Remember when DC and Marvel comics were based on great stories?
I do. I used to love the X-Men as a kid in the 80’s and 90’s.
This comic will sell hundreds of copies! HUNDREDS!
The sad part is it will sell because it's a number one.
I think you overestimate the sales number there.
I didn't realise comics had become so depressing.
These people are mentally not well. We see what they classify as a hero and they relate more to monsters.
I am a little disappointed the line "foooking scissoring!!!" wasn't used in this video.
"He/Him, They/Them"🤣🤣🤣 That line always slays me. Love that song
From Degenerate Comics to Dead Company. The best way to expose DC Comics is just to read a current comic issue verbatim.
Az, I hope you fully sanitised yours hands after handling that filth.
It's my theory that the cost for running DC and Marvel is such a small amount compared to everything else that Warner and Disney does that they can basically operate indefinitely, even if they lose a ton of money. DC and Marvel are such colossal failures that I don't know what they could do at this point to be shut down.
disney once commented that they make more from one parks parking fees than the entirety of marvel comics
Mate if we were in the pub I would buy you a pint for this ,nailed it.
Might not be the topic of the video, but one thing sure stood out to me. Its been a long time since I read a comic book, those ads are unreal! Literally every 2nd page! how long have they been this watered down? It looks like its 50% ads.
50% ads for $4.99
Bro this is so sad... I remember as a kid looking up to the idea of heroes. Saving others, conquering bad odds, always following your morals. God damn so sad what it has become
modern day, no morals, no spirituality
They done Shayeera dirty in this shite.
Newsflash for the writer: She's not, nor _can't_ be a lesbian. She's destined to love Hawkman.
it's hawkMA'AM.
"Excuse me, where's the new Superman #18?"
"In the Gay Section."
"Oh... Well, how about Batman #7?"
"Gay Section."
"Green Lantern?"
"Gay."
"Hawkgirl? Spider-man? Dare Devil? Hulk?"
"All gay."
:|
I hated American comics except batman and Spiderman... I was Judge Dredd 2000AD all the way!
I hear you. It was a sad day I hung up my DC badge and walked away. I recognised that DC just didn’t want me as a fan or a customer anymore, after almost twenty years of loyalty. But hey! I have my old collection and the old animateds. And so do we all. Life is still good 😊
Defective Comics
Dead comics
Degenerate Comics?
So you like seeing dudes kiss?
@@Likexner Does guys kissing bother you? ;)
@@capthavic Answer my question first, then i will answer yours.

I absolutely LOVE hawk girl. I’m currently re-watching the justice league 2001-2006 series. Can’t say the same about the comics.
the real hawk girl.
Try some of the preserved history of Hawkgirl, found in Alter Ego.
Yes, ancient fanzine stuff. Roy Thomas fleshed out ALL the old characters,
the Golden Age canon is well documented, the new membership just may
do the same into your era of interest. Black Orchid is a strange origin.
Those morons have destroyed everything, and now the corporations say but where have our customers gone????? We've had enough! I just buy classic back issues now. Modern new comics are totally dead.
Very much wondered where those comics disappeared .to ...
The stores are also closing down, so now-a-days it is very difficult to purchase those like it was many many years ago .

I admit that I'm no comic reader. I grew up with the x-men batman animated series and really love those. I never imagine how bad it is now.
Hawkgirl: 2 pages of fighting, the rest is "are you gay?" "can we get together?" "kissing"....
man.....
I spent a week re watching the Berserk anime. I ended up ordering the first three volumes of the manga (deluxe version). I plan to get them all. ”American comics” don't stand a chance anymore.
When you threw that... That combination of disgust, betrayal, and sadness, man. Been floating in that exact sentiment societally for the past 4 years.
I don't know man. Feel for you because I'm feeling it too. Thank you for your content. It really helps. Sincerely, my soul.
Belle wouldn’t use the cat box if you lined it with that comic… just put it in the bin, Az.
Or burn it, need the heat somehow for the coming winter since they want to destroy all sources of heat in that country.
This is why I love indies and manga. These people only worth laughing at.😂🤣
Those those industries is also facing issues.
Also depending on what category or demographic you are viewing
Shojo manga tend to have less sales that shonen manga and action series are more popular than slice of life series.
There is a reason why some people are skeptical of certain manga series particularly manga and manhwa series especially manga labeled "seinen"
I keep hearing in the anime community that the industry is "struggling" and in the comic book community that it isn't.
This is what happens when Tumblr writes comics.
Completely sickening
gone are the days... (when some hot girl-on-girl action was a reward... now it's a punishment)
A hilarious UA-camr once summed up the situation best, "Manga stop laughing"
The way Az threw that comic in a fit of rage or maybe frustration really shows how low comics have sunk.
MANGA STOP LAUGHING!!!
So many free web comics who has not only way more superior story but also better graphic.

Keep speaking the truth Az love it.
Yup this is why people don't like furries. It's too often their entire identity and they inject it into EVERYTHING
lived through it since the late 90s on Livejournal, deviant art and tumblr. it actually drive me to get redpilled because they ruined every fandom out there with their fetishes and bullying fans that dont want any of that crap flooded all over the place
@@ItsaKindOfMagic86 What?! You don't want to hear all about anime ripoff gay lucario and his muscle fetish (version 374)? You are clearly a fascist.
AZ hit on the most important issue here. All that potential talent out there that has zero chance of being hired simply because they don’t subscribe to this awful ideology. This is what is actually intended.
If you look at new releases for the Big 2, they are selling reprints like crazy. It's all epic collections and ultimate editions and new printings of trades. They know their current stuff blows and nobody wants it.
I just finished watching some farming videos. Then I came here and you said "egg producer with a bonus hole". I admit. I sat here with a 1000 yard stare after that.
This is why I stopped reading any comics from DC or Marvel.
At this point, it's quicker to list the characters in DC and Marvel who aren't gay.
Hope you have something to restore your sanity after stuff like this. Keep it up, you and the gang (Nerdrotic &co) are great.
I can hear Az ranting about anything, all day. Guy has a gift!
We’re not making stories for customers but for future companies to buy… What company is gonna buy a story with absolutely no audience?
A comic about Floppa meme cat would sell hot cakes 🥞 better than what DC comics could have.
Left Disease Comics a looong time ago.
Stories and movies are s#!t.
so hawkgirl is gonna a relationship with hawkMA'AM.
Unfortunately, they missed two important steps:
- Web novel > Light novel > Manga > Anime, some of our favourites come to us through this method.
Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Hawkgirl, Poison Ivy are all gay now. I'm sure there's no agenda......🤨
FOOKING SCISSORING. They've destroyed comics, it's sad really
