@@Sorain1 So, kind of like that media experiment where they switched the genders of the Trump/Hillary debates and the women came out having contempt for the Male Hillary's weakness?
It's a tragedy, especially for the people like Ken stuck in Barbie world but in the end Barbie realizes the dystopian society she is living in and in large part helped create. She chooses to say no to this world and gives it up returning it to the real world patriarchy to pursue the one thing that can give her fulfillment, a child. Though I guess Ken also starts as a simp and learns to grow out of it.
Spoilers. . . . . Ken was a codependent, jealous simp. It's described in the first 10 minutes of the film that it's only a good day for him when barbie acknowledges him. He had to be alone to understand he is good enough without Barbies attention. Barbie on the other hand, was on a self discovery journey and chose to do what's best for her, which meant leaving barbie land and not wearing high heels.
MSM: “There is no secret message in this movie. If you think there is one you’re just a conspiracy theorist.” Men: “Ken is a good boy.” MSM: “You’re watching it wrong!!!!”
@@vertigo2894 It made money for two reasons: 1. They managed to keep the WOKE hidden. 2. Femininity. Sadly this will lead to more WOKE movies, despite all other WOKE films crashing and burning. Sad to see western entertainment is nearly entirely owned by an insane cult. 😔
I love how, despite the writers wanting this movie to be the ultimate movie for "M O D E R N A U D I E N C E S, they accidentally sent the message that the key to men being happy is to stop pursuing toxic feminists to be their girlfriends and separate themselves from them completely. Incredibly, accidentally based.
Spoilers . . . . . In the end of the movie it was mentioned that the kens will slowly gain access to more positions of power and there will be some kind of equality in the future. I wish the movie showed kens getting homes, because I'm pretty sure they were homeless. Like.. where did Beach Ken even sleep? I guess the beach.. but that's just sad.
We know it's unintentional only because of perceived reality in this movie (in this movie reality is distorted to make men in general nasty and stupid - which is clear demonization). But without this aspect it wouldn't be so clear xD I remember when the same happened to feminist comic "New guy". These people are so corrupt that they don't even know when they are exposing themselves as evil villains.
@petery6432 They also accidentally sent the message that "patriarchy is a good thing," because the Kens are supposed to be the modern stand-in for women in the real world (assuming you actually believe in "patriarchy") who lost in the end. And thus, what they're really saying is that women need to stop trying to be independent, stay in the kitchen, don't seek freedom, and let patriarchy (or "matriarchy" in Barbieland) thrive. So again, unintentional reverse messaging.
While this has a nice ring to it, remember that this is also one of the many goals of this psychopathic "feminizm" agenda. It actually drives people to break relationships, and creates further division and even hate between the sexes. With women generally being much more susceptible in general to such manipulations and brainwashing, mainly because they have worse control over their emotions. There are even articles about people breaking up, mostly women/girls because of this movie's influence on their susceptible brains. While we could laugh that their propaganda actually went full circle, ultimately the movie WILL and has done damage. I would definitely not call it "based", other than as a joke about how far they actually took it this time. This movie in incredibly EVIL.

I bet some of them liked the movie, but their interpretations were different from their girlfriend's, which they didn't like. So some of them naturally broke up anyway LMAO
As someone female, tired of modern day "feminism" I got so angry when the film came out but watching this I realised: to make all those smug feminists angry, all you need to do is say it's the greatest men's rights film
@@HeelvsBabyface So they went so far with the messaging that they shot themselves in the foot with it. I see how that makes sense. Greta tried so hard to make men look toxic, she made them sympathetic. Good. I imagine once she gets clued into this, _Barbie 2_ will probably have to redo the anti-Patriarchy stuff. Let her aim at the other foot, I say. 😂
What’s great is this was made and released right before the strike shutdown the industry, so the realization that their messaging has gone rogue is like someone hanging up on you and then blocking your number 😅
As Midnight's Edge pointed out after seeing it, this is a breakup movie. The Kens are sh1t on so badly for no reason that it could have been written as a propaganda piece to draw attention to how selfish and narcissistic many women have become in western society.
Its very rare that a writing team is so spiteful and incompetent that they unintentionally make a movie that empowers men when its intended to belittle them. This is the pinnacle of parody
Greta & Noah did this on purpose. This movie is quantum philosophy. On purpose. Look into the other movies they have collaberated on. They are movies of the human condition. Greta even has her religious upbringings vaguely present in her movies. They are movies about real people.
@@ZiaAnnouncer Naw, this was completely unintentional. Like how they were saying earlier this year that Velma was so bad that it was some sort of alt right troll. I bet in a few articles they start bashing the messaging as such for the Barbie movie too. It just seems to happen every so often something so far left is perceived as far right. Like it goes too far in a circle and ends up on the wrong side of the horseshoe. Which is kind of what happens with communism and fascism.
It reminds me a bit of 'Despot of Antrim's' reaction to Rings of Power (the LOTR miniseries 'for modern audiences') where he posits that due to crap writing and directing, the show runners turned Sauron into a Moses like figure trying to rescue the Orcs from the genocidal beast Galadriel.
@@alpyki2588 Why don't you learn who Greta & Noah are. They did this 100% on purpose. This is a movie about humanity. Which is what Greta & Noah have always done.
The script is smart and does a rope a dope starting off as a feminist then misogyny then empowering men then women and somehow manages to balance it all in a sweet funny comedy.
Took wife, sisters in law, niece and my 2 sons (late teens) to see Barbie. The lads just laughed at Ken. The niece, sisters and wife thought it was mean and didn’t like it. It didn’t really do the job the director wanted. It’s because when you try to weaponise feminism in any way, it quickly falls apart because it contradicts itself, doesn’t make sense and clearly creates a wedge between men and women. Men don’t want that and neither do women because this version of feminism fights battles that have already been won, and is misandrist at its black heart.
@@JDReC100 That's the essential trouble with many a progressive movement, it can't stop. It might achieve it's goals, a sensible balance. But by definition it's ultimately going to end up coerced, and end up totally off the rails with a small set of elitist nut jobs at the controls.

I have two questions, if the Kens are so useless how did they immediately take over as soon as they just tried? If the barbies are so amazing and perfect, how did they get subjugated by the very first challenge posed to them?
Because it's not based on a rational series of beliefs, but rather a mix of pandering and manipulation. Sounds like it unintentionally exposes the contradiction of modern intersectionality and feminism: 1. (Not men) are strong, independent and don't need men for anything. 2. (Not men) can do anything a man can do, and they can do it better, because they're (not men). 3. Men are stupid. Men are weak. Men are unnecessary. Men are useless. Men are trash. 4. Despite all this, men are all powerful and oppressive. They just hate and fear (not men) and their superiority. 5. Because of this, they devised a scheme, the patriarchy, and a tactic, the glass ceiling, to hold (not men) down and prevent their rise to power, while also ensuring they get paid less for the same work as their male counterparts. Said glass ceiling is not movie glass that can be broken with a gentle thrust of a toothpick, but rather something like bulletproof glass, nigh invulnerable, and 100 foot thick, just to make sure no (not men) could break through. 6. (Not men) are so amazing that they can still break through the glass ceiling and climb their way to the very top. (Not men) are powerful and important and no man is going to stand in their way. 7. Despite being uber (not mench) , one and all, capable of impossible feats, despite their smashing of the patriarchy and glass ceilings everywhere, they are still forever victims oppressed by the tyranny of the majority unter mench. They need (×) to save them, so the only hope is to take the sacred Blood Oaths of Dagon and discard their natural (not masculinity) and humanity, and their hard earned money too, and give their forever allegiance to (×), in the hopes that some day, they can live in intersectional matriarchal utopia. 8. Said utopia will never be a reality, because the grifters peddling (×) would be out of a job. So they need to keep their believers afraid and unthinking. They need them to believe the fight is life and death, and if they just give more to the cause, they can finally win the war. But the war will never be over, because peace sells, but who's buying? Nobody, that's who. So no matter what happens, they're always " " this close to achieving utopia and all they ever were sold to hope for. And just when they think they're winning, they're told their evil shonen villain antagonist just revealed that he was only using like 1% of his true power the whole time. Yet again. Even though he's said that exact line hundreds if not thousands of times before. And this isn't even close to His Final Form. So they better lend "the cause" more of their energy to power an even bigger Spirit Bomb than the last one. Because this time will finally be different.

Barbie IS a feminist film and it IS a pro-men film. REAL feminism is pro-men. Go read a book by bell hooks. Or just this quote from Gloria Steinem: "Once men realize that the gender roles are a prison for them, too, then they become really valuable allies. Because they’re not just helping someone else, they’re freeing themselves. There is a full circle of human qualities we all have a right to, and they’re confined to the “masculine” ones, and we’re confined to the “feminine” ones. We’re missing more, but they’re still missing a lot. If a man fights to be his whole self, to be creative, to express emotions men are not supposed to express, do jobs men are not supposed to do, take care of his own children-all of these things are part of the feminist movement."
As a woman who wore all her Barbie gear to go see and root for Barbie, I can definitely say KEN stole the show. You were rooting for him the whole time. No I didn't think Barbie should be forced to be with him if she didn't want to but the fact he learned how to be a man and know that he is just Ken and is Kenough with or without Barbie... is what made it great. Yes, Ken is "still hot" when he's "in his feelings". And I feel Ryan Gosling really brought it in for the guys. I'm in support of all the guys who have these nearly impossible standards of being a man while simultaneously being shamed for it. Some of us Barbies appreciate you and are rooting for your success everyday! You ARE Kenough!
This is just it. Men do not actually want slaves. Women provide so much value in relationships men are willing to do dirty dangerous jobs to keep her and the children from harm and want. All we are asking for is to be appreciated and respected. It isnt a lot but a lot of women will tell you that is being a literal slave. So men are walking away. It is the most rational thing in the world.
She doesn't want to be alone even if Ken isn't the man she wants. In the end she returns to the patriarchy in order to obtain her real human sexuality the only thing that can provide a child... The solution to the root cause of her distress and seemingly meaningless life.
My favorite scene in the movie: Barbie: "You fool. No woman can kill me. Die now." Ken: "I am no woman." **Ken stabs Barbie on the face.** So stunning and brave.
It's a fun movie in places, especially with Ryan G! Also all of his Ken moments and his song... it's so awesome!!! He has full on musical number and it's GLORIOUS!
Nope. Dont. Its cringe. The daughter might not be the father's kid....but some "bad boy" kid. The barbies playing with kens heart, making kens compete for a shred of barbies attention. Too cringe. Its not even comical. And then the mattel board of directors...who are full of idiots. The message is probably patriarchy put them on the top even tho they are idiots. Oh well.
"loves, respects, and appreciates men" made me sad to read for some reason, probably because I can count on one hand how many times I've heard that. I must've just grown up in a bad environment though
i do love the Ken subplot. He's neglected and taken for granted, even though he's just trying to be the best possible. then he magically enters a world where people like him are valid and returns to barbieland and gives the others massive self confidence. All the barbies are deeply into that until a new wave of feminism tells them they're not. Yet, the Kens by the end are still emancipated and get a say in barbieland and more appreciation. Meanwhile the mattel board can stay as it is (fully male) because they introduce normal barbie. So overal it's a net gain for the Kens. I also love how the Kens think the patriarchy is being self confident, a bit macho and being into horses after needing to learn about it through books. No further political statements at all, just appreciation for horses and what men can actually accomplish. It's kinda wholesome. Meanwhile the Barbies need a whole idiology to suppress the Kens and they key point of interest is maintaining the matriarchy in which Kens cannot be equal to Barbies ever. Yet.
@zawarudo1041 dude. She's just old and looks ran through now. So many actual Barbies that they could have used. Barbie is supposed to be a young woman. Not some used up 40 year old...

@@lobomon2000 I would say "tragic comedy" 'cause the while the movie series is telling a story, you also kinda get a "mirror story" that are the female watchers that wish they were the FMC. No joke, a lot of women strangely have this desire to be treated like FMC was treated by the MMC
I saw the first one on a date. She really wanted to see it and got us tickets to opening night. The theater was packed with women in various bondage outfits. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. All the efforts and sacrifices made by earlier wave feminists and these tarts show that what they really want is to be dominated.
The Barbie movie is a tragic hero story. Ken rising up to overthrow the oppressive system only to be betrayed by his own before his victory. Truly a Greek tragedy of our era.

No one “exposed” child trafficking. That implies everyone didn’t already know about it. People push back against it because the main star of the movie is a Qanon nut job. Not to mention many of the things said to have happened in real life didn’t really happen. It’s VERY loosely based on reality.

Ken was actually based! When he stopped simpin’ for Barbie he achieved success, but when he began simpin’ again he was defeated! It was once said “Be pimpin’, not simpin’”! Too bad they made Ken fall for the women’s deception. Had he not and kept the eye on the prize he would have won and maybe Barbie would have then said yes to being his “Bride-wife”.
As every abuser told their spouse after smacking them around. "You made me do that to you." They are abusers complaining that we don't understand why we need to be abused.

That's basically what women are taught to do from a very young age. Movies and Television has been portraying men as dumb and useless for a long time now.
Sounds about right. Hollywood is filled with bitter, lonely, vicodin/percocet addicts who want all men to feel the way they think all women(but actually just their twitter followers) feel: miserable.
In the sequel, since Barbie goes to the Real world to find herself alone, I hope Ken becomes a passport bro and goes overseas to Anime world and finds the busty, loving, young waifu he deserves
Epilogue to the film: Barbie in the real world is alone and miserable, faces bullying and derision from other women who are jealous of her looks, and eventually drinks herself to death. Ken, meanwhile, does indeed hook up with an anime girl who's hot and smart, and the two of them start a relationship based around mutual respect and appreciation.
A new synopsis for the Barbie movie, which in my mind I have now renamed Ken's Journey; "A story of a man trapped not just in a misandrist, profoundly unjust Matriarchal dystopia, but also in a relationship with a manipulative, narcissistic, borderline psychotic abuser. It all seems so bleak, and yet this man, so downtrodden, mocked and marginalised, sees a glimpse into another way of life. He sees what an equal society could be, and finds the inner strength to defy the culture which victimised him, and the woman who rejected his love and abused his good character, to break free and take back control of his life. Inspiring, uplifting, life-affirming - Ken is a new kind of hero for 2023. He is... Kenough!" I love it when fanatics go so far off the deep end that they accidentally highlight all the glaring flaws in their own delusional beliefs, and it seems Barbie has emerged as pretty much the Mount Everest of self-owns.
Satire is intentional, this was Greta Gerwig going full mask off and it turns out Hollywood's true face is so disgusting that it turned off the rest of the world. Greta will call it a satire a decade down the road. But she was 100% serious about the messages of this film.
Greta Gerwig is married with children, and her husband co-wrote “Barbie”. It is intentionally satirical and Ken was deliberately designed to be likable. Mattel is rebranding the Ken dolls, and thinking of giving him his own spinoff.

Calling it satire is going to be NECESSARY ... to "disarm them" ... because laughing at something and *subverting "their" expectations* (emphasising with Ken instead of hating the movie/Barbie) is the best way to defeat them and their message.
Barbie decided to join the real world, the "patriarchate" so, the message at the end of the day is that no matter what kind of feminist utopia you build to feel like the Marie Sue you wish to be, reality is the only place you need to be and cope by becoming a person outside your head, and not permanently inside one's head. Or something! 😅 (even the Barbie in Barbieland seemed to be happier with the Kendom and all lol -- the protagonist goes from one polar side to the opposite and decided that it was time to mature and abandon both extremes)

The audience at my screening viewed Barbie the same way, we were rolling at the tongue and cheek satirical aburdity and the east eggs and the subtle innuendo. Demographic was age 40, 50/40 women and they were laughing too. The message at the end was poignant, Robbie's Barbie didn't want her Ken, but admits the mistreatment and for Ken to find his own happiness; apparently the media ignores this, as usual.
Most of what I got were a bunch were a bunch of "Mmhmm!"s, "Yep!"s, and claps from the audience at the end of Gloria's/Ferrera's diatribe, and in a pretty red county no less, so yeah, that's not happening everywhere.

The natural conclusion would be that this was exactly as intended, but the obsessives (who often have a good point) can only view this an an own-goal, they literally can't see that there's another possibility in play. Note - I've never seen a GG film before, I had no intention of ever watching this but I'm pretty sure I'll have to catch it at some (streaming) point now. Additional note - holy shit, when I just googled GG to confirm I've never seen her previous stuff my screen literally turned pink. Well played Google and the Barbie marketing department, well played.
I can see how they intended this switching of roles to make us sympathize with Ken, so that we might then sypahize when a woman in the real world has similar problems. But the thing is, in today's world it is not men, not women, but boys who are being oppressed. They are told they are evil for their instincts of providing, protection and service, and for desiring recognition for it. This kills the spirit 25% of them, and turns another 25% into people who don't care. The rest still become men and can't be oppressed, but we need to stop the assoult on boys for being potential future men.
Just skipped over from FNT to say This is like Smaug screaming “don’t aim your arrows there, that’s my weakness!” They’re literally telling us Based Ken is a W for us! 🤣🤣🤣
this reminds me so much of "birds of prey" where they completely failed at conveying their message that it made the movie just so hilarious. Detective Montoya for example claims she's not getting her promotion because of sexism and racism but throughout the entire movie she's portrayed as completely incompetent and not doing her job, because her only job was catching a serial killer but she doesn't even do that and lets Harley abduct a child and steal a diamond due to her incompetence...
So instead of learning to write, they just say we are worng and misinterpreted their shit writing. From everyone who spoke about the movie, the movie shows Barbie is scared of change, and when confronted with it she stomps it out and runs away. Meanwhile the Kens suffer because of Barbie's actions, Ken didn't decide to go to earth for no reason, he followed barbie, he learned about the real world because he followed her and interacted as everyone does, he even gave up his literal rights for Barbie's approval. The entire movie goes out of its way to show Barbie as a villain, even though she is supposedly the "hero" in this movie. Yeah it's a massively based movie, and is probably making money because of that fact.
I wish I lived in the late 19th century. Where things were set up exactly as they should be. Somebody has to cook and clean no matter what. Why does that need to be me?
You convinced me! I was going to abstain, or at least until I could spend less money on a rental, but now I'm going to try to see it asap! (And I'm a female, but not a psycho feminist, so your review gives me hope!)
Ken was the best part of the entire movie though. Even the women in the theatre laughed most when he was on screen. I’m totally getting an “I’m kenough” tee shirt lol I died when I saw that 😂😂😂😂
AZ love yah, no homo, but everything about this movie has been a Trojan Horse into feminism. Sure you can be astute enough to take it as based, but this isn't how kids & general audiences will see it. NOTHING ABOUT BARBIE HAS TO BE POLITICAL. Yet the feminist Greta Gerwig, who is also writing the upcoming woke Snow White, CHOSE that to be the case. This movie is a Trojan Horse.
But if Greta delivers the Trojan Horse to the wrong city, and it then proceeds to burn down the wrong city... what is it then? This film is like a slow acting acid. It is corrosive, and will be felt for some time to come. It is going to do lasting brand damage to Barbie, and to Warner. This is a long haul situation, so we just need to be prepared for it.
@@horseradishpower9947 Then it's still a woke trojan horse.

@petery6432
They also accidentally sent the message that "patriarchy is a good thing," because the Kens are supposed to be the modern stand-in for women in the real world (assuming you actually believe in "patriarchy") who lost in the end. And thus, what they're really saying is that women need to stop trying to be independent, stay in the kitchen, don't seek freedom, and let patriarchy (or "matriarchy" in Barbieland) thrive. So again, unintentional reverse messaging.
It went so far until 'are we the baddies?'
Much like writing a bloodthirsty war film, in the end, anyone who watched seeks peace.

Sounds like it unintentionally exposes the contradiction of modern intersectionality and feminism:
You already gave this more thougths that the writers and the director did.

Barbie IS a feminist film and it IS a pro-men film. REAL feminism is pro-men. Go read a book by bell hooks. Or just this quote from Gloria Steinem:
"Once men realize that the gender roles are a prison for them, too, then they become really valuable allies.

All we are asking for is to be appreciated and respected.

i do love the Ken subplot. Yet.

Too bad they made Ken fall for the women’s deception. Had he not and kept the eye on the prize he would have won and maybe Barbie would have then said yes to being his “Bride-wife”.

Transformer activism has destroyed f3minism before. This is just a temporary resurgence.
So they love when men hated the movie, and hate when men love the movie? So they are only happy if they are making men miserable is my takeaway.

Epilogue to the film:
Barbie in the real world is alone and miserable, faces bullying and derision from other women who are jealous of her looks, and eventually drinks herself to death.
Ken, meanwhile, does indeed hook up with an anime girl who's hot and smart, and the two of them start a relationship based around mutual respect and appreciation.
That scene where they break all the Ken's hearts is so well acted I felt their suffering directly. made me hug my husband extra tight in that scene :P

A new synopsis for the Barbie movie, which in my mind I have now renamed Ken's Journey;
"A story of a man trapped not just in a misandrist, profoundly unjust Matriarchal dystopia, but also in a relationship with a manipulative, narcissistic, borderline psychotic abuser. He is... Kenough!"
I love it when fanatics go so far off the deep end that they accidentally highlight all the glaring flaws in their own delusional beliefs, and it seems Barbie has emerged as pretty much the Mount Everest of self-owns.
Great review
Satire is intentional, this was Greta Gerwig going full mask off and it turns out Hollywood's true face is so disgusting that it turned off the rest of the world.
Greta will call it a satire a decade down the road. But she was 100% serious about the messages of this film.
Greta Gerwig is married with children, and her husband co-wrote “Barbie”. It is intentionally satirical and Ken was deliberately designed to be likable. Mattel is rebranding the Ken dolls, and thinking of giving him his own spinoff.
@@ChienaAvtzon I honestly hope he gets a spinoff. He was the best part of the movie in my opinion.

It’s self satire when you find out how much hyperbole they get away with just to make a point. One example: the Mattel boardroom is depicted full of dusty old men in the movie, when it’s mostly women and has been mostly women IRL.
This movie is a hypothesis of what a free nation, 1st world, out of touch, bubble-dwelling feminist THINKS female oppression might be like if it were to ever happen to her. But all this movie does is showcase how free she’s been of it. I’m female and my favorite character is Ken! He is Kenough to me! 💜
And the ending makes no sense: the whole point of playing with Barbie is to imagine/escape beyond the limits of your current life to “be/do anything”. I knew this was coming when 4chan started putting up Ken memes. The problem is that Ryan Gosling is way too charismatic and likeable to play this kind of role in an antagonistic manner, especially the way this movie was written. Even his character in The Big Short was more of a tweener than a normal heel. They probably should have cast Zac Effron, with that David Hasselhoff-style mug he has now.
Also mention the stolen election: how is it a democracy when Kens’ voices don’t count?
The Barbie movie is great if you look at it through The Empire Strikes Back lens: It ends on a dark note with the Empire seemingly scoring a crushing victory, and the Kens seemingly defeated. There are *TWO PROBLEMS* with Az's take on "Barbie":
1. MOST PEOPLE wont recognise satire/parody anymore in todays "offending (=laughing at) people is BAD" culture, which gets even more difficult when ...
2. the creators of the movie will DENY that it is a parody!
Calling it satire is going to be NECESSARY ... to "disarm them" ... because laughing at something and *subverting "their" expectations* (emphasising with Ken instead of hating the movie/Barbie) is the best way to defeat them and their message.
Bro you sound so fucking vaginal. Greta Gerwig is a genius director. It’s a satirical film precisely because she wanted it to be.
Barbie decided to join the real world, the "patriarchate" so, the message at the end of the day is that no matter what kind of feminist utopia you build to feel like the Marie Sue you wish to be, reality is the only place you need to be and cope by becoming a person outside your head, and not permanently inside one's head.
