FFS I thought the whole point of Rebel Moon was that Snyder could do his own thing

Much of what is "our own thing" in reality , is a combination of many "other people's things" rolled into one.
There aren't really any "original" or "new" ideas. Rebel Moon , Snyder revealed in an interview, was kinda a star wars fanfiction. Those are his words. He was never hiding it. But many people , the NPC types and or Normies, are clueless about what the films foundation was based on and that thing was the Heavy Metal adult comic series.
This is Snyder having fun. He wasn't trying to impress movie snobs, he was trying to impress himself and other crazy weird film lovers that love dark fantasy , blood , gore and sex, oh and adventure! 😂
People really r clueless about this film.
Also, we have mentally insane folk that just down his films cuz they think Snyder is secretly a white supreamist evil Trumper or something. These people r foam at the mouth nuts 😂

IMO the long versions are EPIC! I really loved these versions (yes even the crop scenes that are magnificent with the image music and bonding between this closed-off community and the people who came to hep them). I loved the lore so much that I need to buy the books about it. The Kalis (the motors of the Destroyer) are amazing and I need to know more.
Well, to me Zack is still a pure genius ;)

I liked this movie. Its a mature love letter to classic star wars. I dont understand all the weird levels of hate for Synder, but at the same time i was never a fan of his movies. If i movie is enjoyable , its enjoyable. This was well acted, well written and directed.
I really havent liked any of the crap coming out of hollywood these past years , and im happy i enjoyed.
I took a massive break from new movies for years , and recently returned to the theater finally to see Miyazaki's The Boy And The Heron , and the outstanding Godzilla GroundZero.

" Its a mature love letter to classic star wars. " being gory, having sex, and people cursing doesnt make it mature. the original gundam, back in the late 70's is an ocean of maturity compared to even this version of rebel moon.
hell, just go on youtube and look up "the greatest headshot in all entertainment media" and you will understand how snyder fails at having depth. there's no slowdown, no need for swearing. and the brutality of the scene is enough to sell how desperate the situation is.
that scene alone has more maturity than this entire movie combined.

isnt that just a twist on the navigators from dune as well? they arent the powersource, sure, and they are mutated humans, but they are basically the closest thing to sentient aliens in the story, and they are vital for space travel and one of if not THE reason for the need for spice.

It did feel like the big head in the ship needed explaining on the original version. It does sound like a Dune ripoff, if I remember right the ships in Dune need the spice and an alien creator navigating/hyperspacing them to allow faster than light travel. But I guess this is copying starwars which in turn copied Dune, so there is always an element of taking old ideas.

Part 1 is now, I dare to say, a kinda "good" movie, with some "realy unneccessary & bad" stuff, making it still unbalanced, but the foundation, now, is strong.
Part 2 on the other hand, is still a kinda "bad" movie, though better only because of the brutal action.
Is it now enjoyable? Yes... IF you want a taste of R-Rated SW looking/feeling more like WH40K, with generic/stupid Anime-mentality!
Is it better, quality-wise? Absolutely not... the script-writing, directing, character-progression, storytelling & worldbuilding is quite bad, not a single original idea, and the ego & hubris of the director is still palpable!
Yesterday I heard both DCs are flopping as well, even worse than the castrated versions, so it's possible this franchise get's cancelled. Which would be a shame. But if this wants to be continued, if it wants to survive, it realy needs to get it's holy shit together & make good use of basic moviemaking & common sense 24/7.
