6:24 That’s a good strategy carry around a biface of good stone and whenever u need a blade u knock a flake like that probably with a bopper made of copper (I’m rewatching ur senonian flint vids in a playlist)
Really cool video...refreshing to see you think on your feet(while off your feet...lol)this one put you out of your comfort zone which switched on all that evolutionary stuff to put your body and mind more in the zone!😊
Very interesting analysis of the material. Thank you. It certainly responds well to a strong ridge and good support, you can make some really game changing flakes. Using this I've been trying to thin bifaces aggressively and early to avoid the problems with termination, but I still need a lot more experience. Looking forward to part 2.
There's a whole lot of flint over here, and it was a huge export in the Neolithic age. No need to worry too much about divulging locations because it's literally everywhere :) Finding such beautiful pieces without huge inclusions takes searching though.
@@KnapperJackCrafty oh in Minecraft you make a portal out of obsidian to go to the nether which is basically like Hell but you light it with flint and steel I immediately thought of that
Such sharpness I've never touched until jasper. It makes a scalpel look like a butter knife. I was cut by one of those flakes on an archiological dig. The archeologist said the flakes were from around 3000 years ago! Still micron sharp. I Bled pretty bad.
The dull stuff in the middle is a big fat tough spot. That's why it's doing the weirdness. It's like ninja concrete, it takes pretty thick flakes to push through the stuff if you're striking on the glassy material. I try to avoid the middle when knapping senonian.
@@KnapperJackCrafty The hard spots in this flint seem to make the flakes want to deflect around instead of just stepping. Sometimes there's small concrete pockets in the middle of the rebellious lumps, but you only find out once you cut through or snap the piece. It took me a lot of swearing to figure out the problem
The unicorn rocks are the ones that are thin enough for the good material from each side to meet up in the middle, while still being large enough to be fun. This one was pretty close. Of course if you don't mind knapping small stuff there is a fair amount of really thin stuff of extremely high grade. Like 10 x 5 x 1 centimeter rocks.
Watched DC Waldorf make a Danish dagger from this stuff. Gads, was that involved. He got almost done when on his last strike it folded because of a hidden crack. He rediscovered how this technology was accomplished. Sweet.
Whats that rock u keep sanding it with ..I'd like to learn to Knapp. I liked that glass one I saw u do ..u made an arrowhead out of a clorox bleach bottle bott
It's a piece of a broken grinding wheel. Here's a video of my current tools: My current tool kit. Updated Aug 5, 2024 ua-cam.com/video/FN0ohLS52yA/v-deo.htmlsi=NeTu-ZwZAozIbbhq
This particular steel for creating sparks was hand forged from high carbon steel, so it's not mild steel. I received it as a gift so I don't know the exact carbon content. And yes, I used one of Danny's boppers, and I like it. The handle is very light, with the weight very much in the tip, which is great.
pretty much the entire east coast from denmark to northern france and then over to southern england is made of flint and chalk , there is plenty plenty , perhaps not all this good but there is so much it could supply modern knapping for another few thousand years if exploited . in england where they quarry limestone and chalk/clay they have spoil heap mountains of flint the size of multiple story buildings as a quarry bi product . they sell some as building stone usually by the ton bag for a cheap price . the issues arise with local laws in different nations . for example in england it is technically illegal to remove stones from the sea shore which is usually owned by the crown estate but on private property flint may be gathered from the surface or dug from the ground . in denmark i am not sure but i know they are very strict with most things . there is probably a reason why there isnt more of this rock on the market
I think the main reason is the same reason you don't find boppers made and sold in Europe: there isn't a flintknapping market. Quality flint can be found in a large expanse from France to the Baltic sea, and there's plenty of quarries extracting it and treating it as waste.
@@NarheimArmoury there is a growing uk and european market but nowhere near the USA market value . if these quarry owners got wise they could make a nice sideline in flint exporting it and serving the small but growing amount of knappers in the region . most prolific UK knappers live and operate near easily gathered surface flint (that they are loath to part with for any price) as the majority of eastern and southern england is covered in it . its us northern scottish knappers who have to beg , borrow and trade with english knappers for stone , or travel . sadly the shipping costs make buying exotic rock very expensive .
Smoking is good! I limit myself to just a couple of cigars per day. I just don’t smoke while I’m knapping. I end up wasting a cigar. Not to many points that I find out in the wild are not as thin as the ones we knap. And once again smoking is good.
I would call that a 6.5 out of 10 flint, like most things in life finding perfection is not easy, and not necessary to survive:)) there is better flint and worse flint here in Denmark, most rock have a little something installed just to piss you off:)) and the piece you have will snap if you a too stubborn with it in a thin state. Always enjoy watching, Thanks!
I think in the south of europe we would call that a 9 out of 10 flint. For example, here in Spain finding tabular pieces with that level of homogeneity an quality is currently impossible. How relative things are hahahaha
Beautiful Stuff. Never had any of it. I prolly couldnt do it justice. Oh and i heard you say in one video that you like Heavy Metal music. What bands and era of metal do you favor the most? Ive played guitar since I was 12. I started playing in church then moved onto other genre's. I thoroughly enjoy playing Metal and Bluegrass. The two couldnt be farther apart from eachother. Sold my electric guitar and Amp Stack cause mom is sick and i play loud so ill get another setup one day later. But she enjoys listening to me play Bluegrass, Country and Gospel music. I wish I could Knapp as good as you and Play guitar like Tony Rice 😂 id be a master at both then.
As for the Heavy Metal stuff, Black Sabbath is one of my favorites, so I'll listen to anything that sounds like that. But I listen to AC/DC, ZZTop, Motley Crew, Heart, Led Zeplin, Pink Floyd, and all the way up to more recent bands like Tool, Deftones, Royal Blood, Korn, etc. If I'm listening to music when other people are around, I'll switch to "southern fried rock" like Lynyrd Skynyrd, CCR, and such.
@@KnapperJackCrafty I knew we are of similar minds on many subjects. Checkout Chevelle, Slipknot, Incubus, Stone Sour, 3 Days Grace, Days of the New, Tantric, Seether. You'll enjoy all those. Incubus is prolly my favorite band.
this stuff is great i had sombody send me some too. the only problem with it is we cant get it here. I had some sent to me from a english distro. but it cost an arm and a leg. I got 100lbs for 340$ and 300 shipping. that is like 7 bucks a pound round about. i wish i could get it cheaper. The longest blade i ever made was with this stuff.
Wes Studi, "if you can think about it logically"....this inference is that they can't think, or have the capacity on the outset to think logically. 😂😂😂😂
I’m jealous. I’m in Maryland near the bay, no natural chert here. Though I found a few pounds of really dark nice chert in a marina driveway. Someone used it to fill a pothole. I’m very curious where it came from. I replaced it with some random rocks and absconded with the goods 😂

WOW!! You are an absolute MASTER!!! You're definitely my new favorite channel !
Thanks and welcome
Oh year, this is the typical flint in north europe around the Baltic sea. Its laying here a lot of on the ground and in the woods.
What I missed when I was in the UK... Well, I was trying back then but just without any information...
There’s a “chalk” mountain near my home. I found a piece of flint in a riverbed downstream from the mountain. Flint is very rare around my home.
Yes for sure. There are so many gays there as well.
If its so available then how come it is impossible to get some sent to US
@@charlesg5085what does that have to do with anything
6:24 That’s a good strategy carry around a biface of good stone and whenever u need a blade u knock a flake like that probably with a bopper made of copper (I’m rewatching ur senonian flint vids in a playlist)
Ive knapped something sumular at tommy heflins in Portales NM. Was very nice glossy stuff. I seen you moved up north we did to
Really cool video...refreshing to see you think on your feet(while off your feet...lol)this one put you out of your comfort zone which switched on all that evolutionary stuff to put your body and mind more in the zone!😊
Tha k u for your knowledge .thank mother earth and father sky for bringing me to your knowledge
You're very welcome
There's a whole lot of flint over here, and it was a huge export in the Neolithic age. No need to worry too much about divulging locations because it's literally everywhere :)
Finding such beautiful pieces without huge inclusions takes searching though.
Amber color flint in Denmark has usually taken color from the surroundings, and is grey/black inside. Helgoland has a famous red flint
I see.
3:08 nether portal
What does this mean?
@@KnapperJackCrafty oh in Minecraft you make a portal out of obsidian to go to the nether which is basically like Hell but you light it with flint and steel I immediately thought of that
@@senkuu_ishigamii I see
Such sharpness I've never touched until jasper. It makes a scalpel look like a butter knife. I was cut by one of those flakes on an archiological dig. The archeologist said the flakes were from around 3000 years ago! Still micron sharp. I Bled pretty bad.
Cool vid, really nice flint. Reminds me of high quality dark Texas ,like you said. Really nice job and explanation.👍
That big nodule Will Lord broke up rang like bell
I believe it
Yes they have lots
Nice work sir and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
The dull stuff in the middle is a big fat tough spot. That's why it's doing the weirdness. It's like ninja concrete, it takes pretty thick flakes to push through the stuff if you're striking on the glassy material. I try to avoid the middle when knapping senonian.
Hmmm
@@KnapperJackCrafty The hard spots in this flint seem to make the flakes want to deflect around instead of just stepping. Sometimes there's small concrete pockets in the middle of the rebellious lumps, but you only find out once you cut through or snap the piece. It took me a lot of swearing to figure out the problem
The white bark on the flintis line
Jack, ypu made that rock jump through a flaming hoop. Amazing. Enjoyed watching this video.
Thank you. 😁
Great looking rock,Looks like good hard flint for tools and points.
Yes
Use super glue on the cracks and more pressure flaking to set up your platforms
Ohh! Baltic flint - my Homeland flint! 👍
I've knapped that stuff, it's rarely ever as good inside as it seems near the cortex.
I see
The unicorn rocks are the ones that are thin enough for the good material from each side to meet up in the middle, while still being large enough to be fun. This one was pretty close. Of course if you don't mind knapping small stuff there is a fair amount of really thin stuff of extremely high grade. Like 10 x 5 x 1 centimeter rocks.
Your videos could be labeled suspense/thriller
Years ago they used that as Ballas wait in the bottom of their ships
Good work Jack looks like a nice piece of rock
Yup. Thanks
Watched DC Waldorf make a Danish dagger from this stuff. Gads, was that involved. He got almost done when on his last strike it folded because of a hidden crack. He rediscovered how this technology was accomplished. Sweet.
He also has a vid of making axes.
I've watched one of those vids also.
It comes from a white cliffs of Dover it's a gun flat better If you hated at 3:50
Whats that rock u keep sanding it with ..I'd like to learn to Knapp. I liked that glass one I saw u do ..u made an arrowhead out of a clorox bleach bottle bott
It's a piece of a broken grinding wheel. Here's a video of my current tools:

Pat is that just mild steel you used to spark that flint? Also is that one of Danny’s boppers? If so how you like it?
This particular steel for creating sparks was hand forged from high carbon steel, so it's not mild steel. I received it as a gift so I don't know the exact carbon content. And yes, I used one of Danny's boppers, and I like it. The handle is very light, with the weight very much in the tip, which is great.
Dacite cousin "flintsite" lol does however remind me of dacite
Must be nice having access to such rock.
It's nice having generous subscribers.
pretty much the entire east coast from denmark to northern france and then over to southern england is made of flint and chalk , there is plenty plenty , perhaps not all this good but there is so much it could supply modern knapping for another few thousand years if exploited . in england where they quarry limestone and chalk/clay they have spoil heap mountains of flint the size of multiple story buildings as a quarry bi product . they sell some as building stone usually by the ton bag for a cheap price . the issues arise with local laws in different nations . for example in england it is technically illegal to remove stones from the sea shore which is usually owned by the crown estate but on private property flint may be gathered from the surface or dug from the ground . in denmark i am not sure but i know they are very strict with most things . there is probably a reason why there isnt more of this rock on the market
I think the main reason is the same reason you don't find boppers made and sold in Europe: there isn't a flintknapping market. Quality flint can be found in a large expanse from France to the Baltic sea, and there's plenty of quarries extracting it and treating it as waste.
@@NarheimArmoury there is a growing uk and european market but nowhere near the USA market value . if these quarry owners got wise they could make a nice sideline in flint exporting it and serving the small but growing amount of knappers in the region . most prolific UK knappers live and operate near easily gathered surface flint (that they are loath to part with for any price) as the majority of eastern and southern england is covered in it . its us northern scottish knappers who have to beg , borrow and trade with english knappers for stone , or travel . sadly the shipping costs make buying exotic rock very expensive .
what is your abrader made of?
It's a peice of a large, course grinding wheel.
The Grey stone looks like somn that the fishtank uses to Ariate the tank w bubbles looo😢
Yup
Smoking is good! I limit myself to just a couple of cigars per day. I just don’t smoke while I’m knapping. I end up wasting a cigar. Not to many points that I find out in the wild are not as thin as the ones we knap. And once again smoking is good.
Smoking is good for my mental health. I'm not so sure when it comes to my physical health. I'm taking a break for a while.
Interesting!
Such logic.
Good info there. Thank you!
Concrete finishers understand the phrase chatter marks
Wes Studi, "if you can think about it logically"....this inference is that they can't think, or have the capacity on the outset to think logically. 😂😂😂😂
Yupper
It’s literally everywhere. They use it for regular rock you would see for a driveway.
Oh yes. I've heard stories.
I’m jealous. I’m in Maryland near the bay, no natural chert here. Though I found a few pounds of really dark nice chert in a marina driveway. Someone used it to fill a pothole.
I’m very curious where it came from. I replaced it with some random rocks and absconded with the goods 😂
@@theabhorrentchef7226 There's nice dark chert in upstate NY and northern VT.
