WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know. - Навчання та стиль
I enjoy the longer videos. I watch them in 30 mins increments. So you get more views per viewing. I'm a Thunking Thinkerer doing major thinkering.
I was thunking that also!😂
@@smokes1973 thunking thinkerers unite!! 😂
Thanks Patrick you inspire me every time! The heat treat instructions are very helpful also. I get so excited every time I manage take a good thinning flake I usually mess up for several minutes, I hope it'll get better. Thanks again!
I like this blade and the collor of the stone very much!
Thanks
Well here you go again, darn it! I am learning something every time I watch one of your videos.
Cómo siempre muy educativos tú canal de UA-cam un gran abrazo mister.

Did find a divine stone from flint heaven today, knaps with your eyelashes :)))
Thanks Patrick!
Dude I love the big ol flakes awesome
Thanks
a closer look at the color pattern shows me the hard to knap area
Good information jack nice job on knife
They d'int have AC back in the day. So if you use AC it won't be like they used to do it. 😁
Very, very true. Couldn't have said it better. 😁👌
In all seriousness please wait for the heat to break before you try the portable fire pit heat treat. It makes me glad that your camers is heat sensitive because ADHD will see the water bottle and think yep I have my water and forget to drink it. Especially with wet bulb over 100°.
True
The blade is beautiful.
Thank you 😊
I knap with nails a lot, removing metal marks can be done by rubbing with sand.
What do you use to hold the sand while rubbing?
I know it’s not in me, but if I were to experiment on it, I would try wet sand with that annoying cloth that sticks to your fingers from the detail section in automotive. Maybe.
Idea for not heating up the camera; put a styrofoam cooler on it's side, cut a hole in the lid and pop a sunglasses lense in the hole. Place camera inside with some ice packs. Keep it back far enough that styrofoam doesn't melt.
Hmmm
You may want to look into a noise canceling mic, it will get rid of noises like AC.
Yeah, we have one. It broke.
@6:00 use bare hand to collect sharper than surgical steel razor blades for storage in a ziplock plastics bag which will be sealed with a gloves hand. What a breed we are. Tougher than wood pecker lips I say.
Lol
How many hours do you usually put in knapping a week? Just out of curiosity.
It varies greatly. No less than 8 hours per week and sometimes up to 40 hours. Average... probably 15-20.
@@KnapperJackCrafty I look forward to a day I can do that! Knapping is about one of the best stress relievers for me because it sucks up all of my focus in the moment.
The pressure flaker you use what type is it ?
16d nail in a 1" diameter oak dowel. I made it myself.
Is that the one you put under your knee
Sorry I meant the metal Rod
@prometheus4916 I use 2 metal rods. One rod, the one I think I used for most of this video, is a 3/8" diameter weldable steel rod 12" long. The other type of rod is 5/8" diameter aluminum.
Ty Jack that weldable rod works very well sorry for bothering you, brother. Just trying to get my stuff right before I start. I’m new at it. Thank you.
