The owner of my LGS told me that a rep from FN told him that simply cleaning the striker tube will help with the shitty trigger pull but for the price I can't justify buying it and instantly having to fix something. It should work fine right away
I just got a 509 midsize MRD and put 300 rounds down range without a single failure. I have no issues with the trigger. I wish I would have got the tactical though.
I was a Glock armorer for several years and can attest to the damage that can result when you don’t use snap caps. Some of our officers were fanatical about dry firing their duty weapons and not a one of them used snap caps because “Glock says you can dry fire your pistol without damage”. That resulted in several pistols requiring replacement of the striker and firing pin safeties and one pistol being retired due to damage of the slide’s breech. I always use snap caps if I am going to be dry firing any firearm more than a time or two.
@@johndilday1846 Does a snap cap prevent the chowdering that takes place between the striker and plunger safety? If so, how so? Just trying to learn. Thank you.
@@johndilday1846 yeah people don’t get that “it’s okay to dry fire a striker fired pistol” just means for field stripping, if you do thousands of reps on an empty chamber that’s gonna wear the firing pin out on any gun. I noticed hearing a lot more about broken strikers during ammopocalypse ‘20-‘21. At the end of the day these pistols are designed for militaries and police departments that can afford to practice with live ammo all the time
My FNS-40 is an awesome pistol ... it's been flawless since I bought it about 6 years ago ... I had a chance to buy a FN509(New) for $389, sadly I did not ...
Thanks for the review. Too early to ask but if you do get a chance, will be great if you could showcase the HK vp9cc that launched couple of months back. HK's first micro compact pistol
Don't even worry about it. Mine (sample of 3) have been heavily abused and are fine. You can also get the APEX heady duty striker if that helps you feel better.
As a working class slave....... only a dream..... and actually I can think of many more firearms before this being a consideration.... unfortunately not even compelling, I wouldn't mind being blessed with a few mags to sway my opinion 😉
I really wanted one of these, but, like the FNS Series, the trigger felt terrible, even compared to my Gen 5 block. Maybe they have gotten better since initial release.
Dry firing vs actually firing the gun is night and day. Why they designed it like that is anyone's guess. I thought I would hate it until I actually shot it as opposed to the staple gun glock trigger that's always bad.
24 round mag ? Don't get use to that. Soon, you will be in the same commie boat that we are in CT too. 10 ROUND MAG HELL ! A lot of the guns you review I cann not buy here, now its 10 rounds only !! Welcome to the club .
Huh? That’s an interesting take. My 509s have been tack drivers. I’ve never had a failure with any guns in the 509 series. I own a few. There were striker issues early on but that’s been rectified. The guns are literally bullet proof.
I have a 509M and just ordered one of these. The 509M has to be one of the most underrated guns made. It is absolutely fantastic
Man , I like that FN .. can't wait for the range vid, ENJOYED !

I like my FNX. I just prefer DA/SA hammer fire. I put Trijicon HD night sights on my FNX and a Talon grip with a Craft Leather holster. Good rig
Glock advises on their website to use snap caps for extended dry fire.

I'm pretty sure you would love the magazine ejection of the newest Scorpion Evo.

We might if our Patrons ask for it.
Like it, FDE will be good for me
I prefer my FNS 9C. Idk why but I’ve always preferred the FNS to the 509
I think that little plastic piece is to open the little baggies that the plates are in.
Neat package
Graham, do you shoot 509's any better or worse than the average Glock....19?
I haven't shot them side by side, but probably the 509 better.
I keep reading a lot of reports of the firing pins, breaking after not many rounds going through it

You don't need the extra spring that usually comes extra in the bag unless you've loaded your ammo stupid light.
I want to have that gun but the price is high .

For the price I just can't justify this purchase with such a subpar trigger. Nice video though !
Same

Gotta give it a minute to wear in. After about 300 rounds my FNS trigger was amazing. That grit is gone and there’s zero over travel

It can be smoothed out. Some are also better than others
Your loss. The triggers are fantastic once you actually go shoot the thing.
A pistol is Batman ears!!?? SOLD!!
Canik and Tisas quality is better less slop in slide fit.

Yet another forgettable gun

I just got a 509 MRD Midsize and ran 300 rounds through it with no problems. I wish now that I got the tactical.
