Great review per usual--interesting how the Canik brand evolves. Today I was shopping for the lower force recoil spring at their website which they note: The lighter recoil spring, marked with blue paint is intended to be used with lower energy 9x19mm ammunition. The spring is compatible with the Canik TP9 ELITE SC, METE SC, METE SC PRO pistols. Found it interesting.
This one is very exciting. The original MC9 is too small for my hand, so this one looks like it could be a winner. On to the shooting impressions! Thanks!
What a gun and reviewed by the most trusted gunreviewer. GB is one of the knowligable gunreviewer and my most favourite one.Tnx.for this indepth review.
I bought a TP(-v2 in 2016 and it was an excellent gun, surprisingly well made and of course it came fully kitted out. It was also ridiculously inexpensive. Unfortunately my wife's BFF fell in love with it and I was talked into parting with it. Since then I fired a number of Caniks including the MC9 and they have all performed very well. I have a very good impression of the brand.
I have a Mete SFX. Great gun, one of the best triggers I've ever shot. A bit big to conceal carry so I've been interested in the MC9s. I look forward to hearing about this one.
Thanks for the overview! Just ordered one. Was going to get the LS variant, but decided the shorter model was a tad more concealable... I'll get the LS when a limited ODG shows up :D.
I'll be interested in opinions comparing to the mete SF. The SF has been extremely reliable for Cary and competition but not sure the issues other have had with the MC9 platform are worth the 2 extra rounds and thinner profile.
My MC9 was built in January 2024 with the only issue being the end of the large recoil springer overlapping on the next coil after my first range trip where I shot 110 rounds. Canik sent me a new recoil assembly and I cut off the overlapping portion on the original. But I still received replies from some who have manufacturing date later in 2024 who have more serious issues still.
@@raykettel1837 thanks for sharing your experience. That was exactly why I went with the SF. I don't want to deal with or worry about spring issues. Glad you got yours sorted out though.
@@eboy924 BTW, I waited to buy mine until a chain store had them on sale for about what I would have paid online with shipping and FFL fee. I was able to make sure the barrel feed ramp looked to be machined properly and made sure the mags dropped freely. These have been two of the issues others reported. I actually saw the end of the coil sticking out about 1/2 mm before buying it so assumed it would eventually wrap over the next coil. I bought it anyway as I knew Canik would send out a new recoil assembly for free. I also read that others just cut off the end and then had no issues. So now I have two recoil assemblies that work.
My Wife has the MC9, Great Gun, I wanted to buy a METE SC, but can't find it anywhere. I was skeptical on the MC9L and MC9LS and thought they used the MC9 name as it sold so well, but the quick compare you did to the MC9 tells me that this might be my next Gun (METE MC9L) as the grip is a bit longer for my bigger hands. Thanks for the Video.
Very nice presentation as always. I noticed you like manuals like me. I bought a Sig SP2022 used, no manual probably shoot only once. Any way TG SIG still had them in stock, ordered along with a case. They were nice enough to send me a SP2022 label that goes on the case.
I took a regular MC9 for a test drive at my range. I liked it but it had tons of reliability issiues. I could not get through a mag without a stovepipe or ftf. Maybe it was just a range gun that needed cleaning but that was my experience with it.
Check out longer baseplate that fits on 12 and 15 round MC9 mags for medium and large backstraps. There is also a sleeve for 18-round mags. Canik offers a different mag with a baseplate that works for the small backstrap. See videos at www.youtube.com/@HurleyWelding/videos
this is what ive been waiting for i like canik my first pistol was a tp9 elite sc and i was hoping they came out with a competitor to the xmacro, hellcat pro before my birthday in december, GOD IS GOOD
My guess is serrations aren’t very pronounced because the steel has been skimmed down so much that there wouldn’t be enough steel for deep serrations. This is also why the sear housing appears to be made of metal, not polymer like your typical TP9. The metal sear housing helps to reinforce the slimmed down polymer frame. Is the trigger bar, striker assembly, and barrel (obviously length is different but all other dimensions) all the same as the standard TP9 series?
My handed tended to slide off the serrations of my MC9 until the recoil spring got over 100 rounds on it and I left the slide open for several days. Some say only the act of compression and releasing the springs will break them in. I also racked the slide about 200 times at home.
This isn't the first time Canik has done it and they and Soringfield aren't the only one who do it, nor is the firearms industry the only industry to do it.
@@GBGuns Oh, I know, but this is the widest YT embargo day release of a Canik model I've seen, just about on par with a new SA mainstream handgun release.
@@jamesR1990 They are many reports of issues with the MC9, the Rival-S and the TTI in the Canik forum on Reddit. The Rival-S had an over-insertion issue with mags which I think Canik eliminated last year at some time. My MC9 with January 2024 build date needed a new recoil assembly due to common issue with the larger of the two recoil springs having the end of the spring loop back on the next coil. Others report they had more serious issues with their MC9s that were build much later this year. Based on feedback in Canik forum in Reddit I think more of the MC9s are problem free but not all.
I would make sure to try them both out. I have tried out the regular MC9 and x-macro. If money isn't the deciding factor then I would go with the X-Macro. YMMV of course.
Graham, can you check the mags side by side with the 18 rounder? I saw another reviewer claim this mag was the same length as the 15 rounder (which we see isn't true when you couldn't insert a it), but I'm curious as to whether it's noticeably different in length from the 18 rounder for them to justify a new pattern. maybe it's just a 15 round body with a contoured +2 floorplate?
Is it true that the OG MC9 slide is swappable with the MC9L? I’d be willing to buy the new one if so. Bought the threaded barrel, night sites and the only difference I see between them is the lower
I think its kinda funny how companies made these tiny guns because of popular demand, then have to make the L version, or slightly bigger version. Because the people who demanded the tiny one realized guns wirh a little more to grab are easier to shoot and control. The current p365s are damn near a compact size now instead of micro
@GBGuns Thank you. I was under the impression that the barrel length was 4". I see now that there are different types. This is great. I have the Mete SFT, and I absolutely love it. I also picked up a CZ P-07 back at the end of June on a pretty good deal. Haven't put that many rounds through it yet. It's definitely a different shooting experience, but I really like it. The hardest part for some like me to conceal is the grip length. I preferred 12-round mag over 15-round mag with my Taurus G3c for this reason. I have larger hands which caused the trigger guard to hurt my finger when I squeezed 4 fingers on the grip. What surprises me with the MC9 every time I shoot it is I do not feel as much of a increased in felt recoil as I expect over my Canik Rival. I also think the felt recoil is better than with my similarly sized G3c. Best of all the trigger on the MC9 is much better than with the G3c. I am surprised that I do not mind shooting the MC9 with the 12-round mag.
Most Turkish shotguns have a mixed reputation for QC and durability. The CZ shotguns and the Winchester SXP among the few exceptions. Canik has a good reputation for quality handguns except for issues with their prior 3 models--Mete MC9, Rival-S, and TTI. They are a lot of reports of issues on Canik forum on Reddit. The MC9 quality has improved but some still report issues. My polymer Canik Rival is great. I like my MC9 after I fixed the common recoil spring issue.
I know, it's silly. It was semi-correct in 2016, but mostly came down to inexperience shooters with poor form using low-powered range ammo. I did a video around 2017 showing the guns ran fine if you knew how to hold a pistol. Canik changed the springs anyways but now 7 years later consumers still think they need a lower-powered spring for the gun to run.
Criticial research. If all that was floating around forums and UA-cam was valid and correct I wouldn't have been inspired to start a channel. (and I even I get it wrong sometimes regardless of my intent.)
And they won't sell the slide separately like some other firearm companies. I would really like to buy a 2nd slide for my Rival so that I could easily switch between open sights and a red dot for competitive shooting--IDPA or USPSA. I would also like a 2nd slide for my more recently purchased MC9 so I could do the same. The Taurus G3 series is nice in that one can buy optical ready G3 (longer) and G3c (shorter) slides at their website if they have any in stock. On can then use either length barrel and slide on the same frame whether they own a G3 or G3c frame. I wonder of MC9L and MC9LS frames are compatible with each others upper assembles. I wonder if my MC9 frame would work with a MC9LS upper.
