  • Here we discuss the Condor 72 Hour bag; this backpack has a 50 liter (or 3,038 cubic inch) capacity, plenty of storage for a bug out bag, and is well built. There is lots of organization and storage options and zippers everywhere. The Condor 72 Hour Bag is a great option of a bug out bag, INCH bag, general rucksack, get home bag, or whatever your tactical soccer mom needs may require.

    I have ordered a Condor 72 hour pack as of today. Thanks for the information on what you stock in your Pack. Never thought about instant Rice or dried meat but makes sense once you think about it, I have hiked almost the entire AT and planning on completing it by years end . This time I will be using my condor pack practicing a bug out situation I will let you know how it goes . Thanks for the information Brother

      You're welcome brother. I would lave to hear a report from the trail. I have about 800 miles rucking on my pack and it seems brand new still. Average load about 48 pounds, sometimes up to 60 pounds.

    I too need to reduce weight... hard to do. Just added a pocket Bible and removed my daily reader. Removed my handsaw and machete, and replaced with a kukri with a saw on the backside. I carry the same tarp/bedroll system as TJ with one wool blanket... as well as a waterproof mylar "bodybag" with the upper face end cut out. ((PacNW can get cold and wet)).
    Same food but beans instead of rice. (I took the aluminum top off an empty Ajax can, bent the holes in the thin top to quickly shred my cheese bars). I have a back pack armor plate "outside" of my bladder but in the same pocket. Other than that, I use a very similar set up to Bears. 60L bag however, as I carry a decent size trauma kit. Currently I am undecided about my AR vs Kel Tec 2k G2 (9mm Glock 19 set-up). The G2 utilizes glock 19 & 17 mags and it folds in half... but again, I still prefer the AR to put rounds at 250 yards+. I also have a Flir Scout II 640 (40th bday gift).
    My "bug out" ruck is 170 miles, 9 days through mountain lion and black bear country (and antifa bums). This too is why I am leaning towards my Kel Tec as it shares mags and 9mm rounds with the sidearm ((and the Kel Tec only weighs FOUR (4) pounds)). I can ruck all day but those who join me in a SHTF event only hike to and from their desks, from their cars... so 11-12 days is probably more likely. *_Plan accordingly; i.e. to your weakest link_*
    God speed y'all.... TJ, "get that pocket bible in that bag bro!!!" Best campfire reading ever written.... (((and yes, this 13f has his perimeter sleep lasers, smoke and flashbangs too))) Scouts carry too much but like my daughter says, its "whatevers"... Hooah!!

    You're set up close to mine. I have a hammock that's small as a softball in a compression sack actually the sack is the pocket to the hammock. Also have a 30 deg and a 0 deg sleeping bag in a compression sack. I of course swap them out for the time of the year. I have 3 pots like yours but big to small along tih a stick stove and they all fit inside eachother. I have knife sharpeners, stone, bar and a leather strap for fine tuning. Rolled up 20 by 10 tarp on the outside, 3 knives one on line one, have a full tang field knive for wood working another knife for cutting meat and the 3rd is another full tang about 6" long and it is on line 2 so if I get separated I have a knife. Also that skinning knife is in my pocket. I won't list everything but maybe 40lbs along with a ar15, 1911 or a cw45 compact kahr. I can carry 2 pistols cause my compact fits nicely and it's barely over a lbs so I can have 1911 on line 2 and my kahr on my person. I don't normally carry 2 pistols but I have the capability

    I’ve noticed that your the only one that talks about CLP (gun cleaner) in their bag. I understand that the bag is more for tools, clothes and food for the time being, but you need all tools, including firearms to be in good condition to keep them working. I have a small can with a cleaning brush wrapped in a ripped t-shirt so I can cut pieces so I can use for cleaning, or to start a fire if needed.

    If you haven't already thought of it, put up some large pegboards and keep all your bugout equipment on it. Especially the smaller stuff.
    It makes it really easy to see so when its time to pack, you can find all the stuff you need in reach. I also keep refills of consumables hanging on hooks or shelves next to it.
    I have some boards for lighting, batteries, lanterns, candles, etc. one for blades, one section for eye protection, etc.., tape, gloves,.. you get the picture.
    It's easy to see whats missing when everythings got its proper place.

    Nice set up. I have a similar set up but I also carry a couple small game snares, three yo yo auto fishing reels and a set of speed hooks for fishing. My shelter/sleep system changes but starts with a jungle hammock with tarp and a poncho with liner. I also carry a couple two way radios and a pair of binoculars. I plan on doing a recon before entering any built up area, otherwise I'll just skirt the area and avoid contact.

    +Bear Independent Doesn't the Condor Advanced 3 Day Combat Pack have a compartment for carrying 2 hydration bladders? I'm an AKM and .308/7.62x51mm NATO guy myself, and the .45 ACP is my favorite pistol cartridge, with the Glock 21 being my main open carry pistol ( in a Fenix Gear leg and thigh holster with built in mag pouch and double pistol mag pouches on my pistol belt, among other things ) [I use military pistol belts ] ) in case SHTF. My main CCW pistol is the Glock 23 .40 caliber. I have a Russian Vest Alpha chest rig and Spetsnaz Tactical vest for my AKs, and a pair of RACK Vests set up for .308 ( with 100 round SAW gunner pouches as triple mag pouches ). I've been looking at the Condor Modular Chest Set you have and was wondering if the built in mag pouches can carry .308 mags. My medium ruck is a Dutch military Alpine Sting ( 3576 cubic inches main ruck, with 2 zip on 10 liter side pouches that you can zip together into an assault pack ).
    If I may suggest, if you Ranger fold your extra clothing ( I bring an extra set of gray and black BDUs [so as not to scream "tactical"] and 3 extra sets of sofies [socks, boxers, and T shirts], all Ranger folded and put them all in a big, heavy duty, gallon Ziploc ( the kind with the zipper ) you will have a lot more room in your ruck. When traveling, I carry a rolling suitcase that contains my pistol belt, mag pouches, holster, mags, chest rig/tac vest, rifle ( disassembled in a dry bag ), extra, vacuum sealed ammo to reload mags, knives, bayonet, and other combat related items to be discreet. This means that I'm usually carrying my CCW Glock 23 and a tactical folder at the ready when walking around. As you said, if I'm bugging out I'm keeping on the move, so hunting and fishing are things I don't think about when considering bugging out. I carry a compression sack and the radio pouch of my U.S.G.I. MOLLE 2 large ruck to carry food. I could talk at length about this and much more, but I will spare you a novel length post. Just some questions for you about whether the Condor Modular Chest Set can carry .308 ( and maybe AKM ) mags, and some tips I hope you find useful. Great video

    I know this is kind of an older video, but if you went with the Source hydration bladder, they make an adapter you plug into the mouthpiece end of the hose that allows you to refill the bladder without having to take it out of whatever is carrying it. I've switched my primary bladders to the Source with adapter setup and moved my CamelBak bladders to backup/loaner gear. It's a pretty good system.

    Consider using a Source bladder, the GoRuck crowd preferred that after having a number of Camelbaks break on them. Sources can be found cheaper than Camelbaks online and you can find USMC surplus ones unused also.
    Also if you want a ruck only bladder, using an MSR Dromdary w hydration kit is worth considering. I've read of some people making mods to add a hydration tube cover and adding a Source mouthpiece.

    Have you ever worried or considered, if you have to bug out and time passes before you reach where youre going(ie roads or brisges out/youre on foot, etc.) and you get to your location only to find its occupied ... what next? Its an interesting, scenario. Not necessarily unlikely if its remote and people are scavenging. At best its ransacked, at worst its occupied.

    I’ve heard more than once that “cotton kills” due to how it just soaks up water/sweat. It holds it, and can hasten hypothermia. What about going “full wool?”

    • @BearIndependent
      @BearIndependent  5 років тому +1

      I have the pair of wool socks, and I often have wool socks on at work as well; the 2 pair of cotton socks are honestly for comfort or around the camp site. I also often double up cotton socks inside of wool socks in the winter. I ain't dead yet, and I spend a LOT of time outside; I used to cut timber in a sleeveless T-shirt and toboggan cap in the dead of winter in Upstate NY with snow up to my knees... ain't dead yet! as for the cotton long sleeve and t-shirt, in the winter I would add a fleece mid-layer and my Carhartt coat or a hi-speed tactical windbreaker... I think cotton is fine spring/summer/fall, with the understanding that if you get wet, you need to change and/or watch out for hypothermia even in mild temperatures.

      Squid & Bear hey , greetings from MONTANA . I am from the Pacific North West and cotton kills, especially in wet humid cold areas. However in the DRY, hot, or cold areas,, I have found that cotton is good. In hot weather it absorbs sweat and cools you. In cold dry weather it insulates well. Just be sure to take off layers to stay dry when you are active. (See Bear.s point about the sleeveless tee shirt in dead of winter.). Wool is great, I like Ice Breaker, but cotton has it’s place.

    my opinion on 72 hour loadout, on what form of transp9ort are you basing this on ..
    motor vehicle this would be great to use..
    though have you ever considered what distance you could within 3-48 hours by this method of transport..
    vs something where you have expend a lot of energy to get from point a to point b or point a to point z by either foot or push bike and how may diversions you mght have to take just to reach a locations and other tools you may to clear a road blockage you might come across and the list goes on and on..
    rucking around a national forest area isn't going to tell you what you might need to get from point s (home or place of work) to point b (home, meet point or BOL) in the space of 90-180 minutes travel by motor vehicle can 12-72hours of travel distance or more by slower forms of transport such as walking or riding a push bike..
    at 90 min by motor vehicle that's 100+ mile at 180 mins that 200+ miles in distance of travel between 55-80MPH

I do have some calories/ water in my bag but not much. How many calories/ water is reasonable vs too much? I want to be ok but don’t want too much weight. Thank you brother god bless

    • @MochiMoose
      @MochiMoose 2 роки тому

      I’d suggest 2000 calories. To put that in perspective, an average jar of peanut butter has about 2600 calories. You could decide however you want to get those calories, there are calorie dense food bars, you can do some beef jerky that you just rotate in and out of your bag, etc. In a get home situation, anything that will keep you from stopping to cook is better than having to stop and start a fire or set up a camp stove, etc. 2 liters of water should be good for 10 hours but 3 liters would be better considering you’ll be sweating likely.
      Be safe out there.

    Hello Bear (TJ), I have been through more of your vids since my last comment/question.. Good stuff, thank you!! New question: just wondered your reason(s) for not breaking your MRE's down, like in this older PJF video here (m.ua-cam.com/video/ff95dFTv3nw/v-deo.html ), to save some weight & bulk and maybe avoid a bit of extra duplication? Thx again!! Roll on!!

    There's talk of a world economic collapse because currencies are being devalued across the board. Are you paying attention to this and if you are what are your thoughts?

      So Mellow yeah I’m paying attention. I know something is coming so I just keep doing what I’m doing. More prepared > less prepared
