No woobie in that pack? Who will be there to console your tears when Doc has to give you the silver bullet because you ran out of water and felt dizzy!!??
I still use my 25-year-old Marine Corps standard issue Alice pack as my oh shit bag. It's salty, broken in, a good luck charm, cavernous, multiple deep utility pockets, lightweight, and effective for either tactical, get-home, or SHTF mobile field use.
This video just made me feel extremely old. The fact that it's 4 years old and he described the old Marine corps will be assault pack as surplus made me feel very old as that is what I carried when I was in the Marine corps.
Of recent generations, I'm the first firstborn not to serve directly, though I'm still listed as volunteer reserve medic. It turns out that my regular duties as a rural veterinarian aren't that far removed from what I'd be expected to perform as a medic. I've already treated enough gunshot wounds at the clinic as it is. My three month training felt like more of a formality, although I have walked away with improved first responder certification and full triage qualification. That's nice. I just wanted to say that you're right about different mission profiles, even between civilian roles. A rural veterinarian has a much different daypack than a volunteer firefighter. And a lot of your explanations are universally relevant. There's something for everybody in your videos, whether we're military, civilian or Venusian. I've been impressed enough by some of your product recommendations that I've switched my vehicle kit to something more compact and I'm now waiting on a Hayley Strategic Flatpack as my new daypack.
Every pack of mine (Assault/Bug-Out/Princess Picnic...) has one essential item I did not notice in this video; ZIPLOC Baggies. I usually keep a few 1-gallon and 1-quart bags in my pack. I also use them to store my extra socks/undies or loose gear in. Keeps things dry, tidy and separated. Also, great to put your dirty socks/clothes in to prevent stinking up everything else in the pack. Just my $.02 after 26 years of living out of a ruck.
I have a ton of ziplock bags I put things in, especially my main medical supplies. Bandages are sorted by size and type. Then each category is in a larger bag. That way compresses are in one, tape is in another, and all sizes and shapes of band aids in yet another. That way replenishing the IFAK is just a matter of finding the right bags. No hunting through a chaotic mess. It also works great for food too. Condiments and whatever else you need to make your roadkill stew go down and stay down should be together and not spread out all over the bottom of your bag. My list is huge.
Great video, very enlightening. In my time in the Army I was in the Cav and always had an armored vehicle at my disposal so it's almost embarrassing to say but I never had any reason to pack an assault pack. When you don't have to physically carry it you tend to over pack :-). I always had a large ALICE pack, my NBC gear, and a duffel bag for the miscellaneous and pogey bait (gedunk in the Navy and Marines?) so what I might need to pack to hump on my back for a 24-hour mission really never came up. I had totally forgotten about chem sticks. When you mentioned flares my first thought was "that ain't gonna work in Colorado, you'd burn the place down" but the light bulb went off when you got to the chem lights. That'll work in a pinch.
I really like the first 45sec; the sincere expression of gratitude and in your videos the final thought, some times not related to guns or equipment but just a reminder of important things in life

I have a chest rig and it feeds my carbine. I live in a small city, more like a town in a rural area. I run deuce gear and ALICE pack. The medium ALICE pack off the frame can be turned into an assault pack by tying the internal strings and folding and tying the bottom to the rear of the pack. It can also be run as is with standard frame and a sustainment pouch can be added on either side to plus up the volume. The large ALICE won't accept the sustainment pouches. I can run water, ammo, food, shelter, etc on the LC2 rig and leave the pack free for other needs or things. After market frames will allow you to add a MOLLE 2 hip pad. I realize I'm old school, but it works well. Cold War Sgt USAF. Love your vids. I've been sharing them with family and friends.

Ever thought of carrying tape on something like a gift card? Wrap it around for as much tape as you need, and then it's small enough to fit inside an admin pouch/small GP without the bulk of a full roll, especially if you need multiple types of tape. Fantastic videos, they're very informative.
Thanks for the shoutout to guys that couldn’t serve and specifically mentioned type 1 diabetics. I am an avid hiker and a LEO (don’t know which one I identify with primarily). I love your videos and I love the industry humour too. Thanks. Make sure you look cool!
My medium ALICE pack and my Marine Corps Assault pack are really good as far as surplus gear goes for a 24-72 hour bag. Both slip over my plate carrier easily. It also prevents me from packing too much gear and keeps me focused on ESSENTIALS. Mecial, Amo, water, and food. In that order.
08:02 That really meant a lot. Like really. I found out I was color blind trying to go for SEAL but that got squashed along with my contingency of going Nuke. So now I'm stuck behind a desk for the majority of my time, along with working on and launching jets (which is way outside of my rate and no one else in my rate does) but I do it because I want to do something "cool" but there is always that thought in the back of my head of "if only I wasn't colorblind." So thank you.
peeps, you could also look into the 5.11 packs, ive been using my 12hr rush pack for more than 5 years in active service and it never broke down on me! maybe a good option to look at!
I recommend the GMR Minimap as a Plate Carrier assault pack. Its really minimalist and of great quality (completely manufactured in th U.S.). Holds everything you need and nothing you don`t. I know, its not made by "real steal guys", but by guys, who abuse it very heavily and it stood up to the test of Time. Have a look into it. It´s worth it I promise. Greetings from Germany. Love your channel keep up the great work (sorry for my bad english, hope its understandable)
C17 Loadmaster and my 24 hour pack consists of breakfast lunch and dinner, a french press for making cold brew, naproxen for the back pain, laptop for watching videos, nintendo switch, water bottle, hammock. Those 24 duty days really get you.

Good shit about understanding that not everyone is military or a LEO. I planned on enlisting as a combat engineer straight out of high school, but was denied after they checked my medical history and saw I was on medicine for depression in the past. It was disappointing to say the least. Even more so when I found out if I would have stayed off my meds for another 3 months I would have been able to enlist. But, that's life.
My Banshee plate carrier does well paired with the old Ares armor pack. Slim and able to connect to my Banshee with adapters or wear as a pack. It has a space for hydration bladders, up to six mags on the top with retention cords. 3 compartments total with MOLLE webbing. Cleaning gear, chow n eating gear, ammo, water, trauma and first aid, hygiene gear and lightning batteries. Cord and stay warm gear as the season dictates. Thanks for the advice , always room for improvement.
that is my favorite part about being a civilian now I can final pack wet weather gear. I can't tell you how many times I've caught namonia #infantry life
Yep, I remember guys dropping left and right when we were in Graf and Hoensfeld Germany. Cold AF in those mountains, and we'd just play up there for months.....now that I'm a civilian, I love collecting all the shit I took for granted in the military. Waffles, ninjas, my IOTV, my M4 :(
i tried joining the army back in 09 and was rejected for medical reasons. it was particularly hard because i was the first generation in my family to not serve. thanks for the acknowledgement for us civis and rejects. what's everyone's take on the 72hr rush by 5-11?
Shout out from an Airsofter! Glad to see you don't diss us for "playing soldier" :P My day pack is packed pretty similarly to yours. For other airsofters who want to know how I pack it: I have two pairs of spare socks, a waterproof jacket, hydration bag, a bag of BBs (in case we are in the field all day ), extra mags, extra CO2 cartridges for my pistol, foot & hand warmer pads, extra strap/clip in case I need to tie down something, 2 x chem/glow sticks, emergency blanket, spare ballistic eye protection in case my goggles sweat/fog too much, a beannie hat in case I am somewhere that I don't need my helmet and my gloves. The only thing I don't have in my bag which Garand mentioned is having spare batteries/battery pack to recharge my gopro camera :)
I must say that your pack is set up great, but where do I put all of my Cheetos? Unironically tho love your shit my dude, would like to see you do some more videos on ya guns
My stuff looking super cool is the most important thing to me lol. When I get smoked.... I gotta look tac 👍lol. Thanks for all of your vids and your service. I come from a milirary family, mostly marines... I skipped, didn't enlist. One of the biggest regrets of my life. I'm too old now mid 40's. I can however still play mall ninja guy 👍 and prepare for the apocalypse that's right around the corner.
Could have used a couple more asymmetric references but another great video nonetheless. Keep up the great work dude you're killin this UA-cam gear review shit.
Electrical tape can also be more water resistant than duct tape. Thicker grade electrical tape is fantastic for waterproofing wiring if needed so it would also be great for a day bag for many uses. And electrical tape can also be used in an emergency for medical uses. If you have a cut that’s not too deep but still a little bad, you can use super glue and electrical tape on top for emergency closure until you can get real medical equipment/help.
Your comments on other various military branches reminds me of when I was I the Navy. We all bust on each other in pure fun. It was even more with my Marine buddies.
Love your shows. I use the info you put out for hiking and camping. So for my pack on hikes i carry a bladder for me and about 5 liters of water for my dog. We typically hike 6 miles
I love your videos! Very informative, detailed, and funny. I always look forward to new videos, as I can count on the information being solid, and tested. Thank you sir. And thank you for your service.
“Coast Guard hahahahahahahahaha” I lost it when you said that. I’m also Navy, so I appreciate the humor. And yes, I do have respect for the Coasties. Just have to give em crap.
New to your channel, and I love your style. I'm glad to see (obviously) the marine surplus packs. They're huge, but what I really love about them is that rigid shell, really helps my back. Considering I'm not actually (hopefully) going to see combat as just a civilian and mostly carry my pack for camping/hiking, or sometimes hunting or shooting way back in the boonies, I really appreciate that you take the time to review non-combat supplies and setups for non-service members. Keep making great videos man, and of course thank you for your service as well.
"When I was in the Navy" Wait. What?! Why wouldn't the Navy slap the ol' franchise tag on the Tactical Lumberjack?! Did you get traded to the AF or were you a free agent?
When I was in the Corps, we used to clip a carabinier to our flacks/plate carriers and clip our helmets to those. Also, our MTV flacks came with a butt stock stop. We could velcro it underneath a shoulder strap to give our rifles some purchase. Something similar to that may be a viable solution for having a rifle slip off of your day pack straps.

I would like that thank you for acknowledging that some of us would like to serve, but we are physically incapable.
I got you fam

My medium ALICE pack and my Marine Corps Assault pack are really good as far as surplus gear goes for a 24-72 hour bag. Both slip over my plate carrier easily. It also prevents me from packing too much gear and keeps me focused on ESSENTIALS. Mecial, Amo, water, and food. In that order.
about to see some quality shit here boys
The Weapon Collection ha! movie references
You're awesome and I got nothing but respect for you! And your humor is spot on my friend 👊👍👊
Road flares are also good for LTs who get lost.

Lol. DNA to MUSTANGS COPY?
08:02 That really meant a lot. Like really. I found out I was color blind trying to go for SEAL but that got squashed along with my contingency of going Nuke. So now I'm stuck behind a desk for the majority of my time, along with working on and launching jets (which is way outside of my rate and no one else in my rate does) but I do it because I want to do something "cool" but there is always that thought in the back of my head of "if only I wasn't colorblind." So thank you.
Tactical Tailor removable operator pack is good for me. Cannae is good stuff too.
Dude you on American bad ass I'm so happy that people like you serve our country make me proud to be an American. Thank you
peeps, you could also look into the 5.11 packs, ive been using my 12hr rush pack for more than 5 years in active service and it never broke down on me!
maybe a good option to look at!
Awesome pack! I've got the same one. Some Aussie vets told me that lasted for ever while they were deployed.
Love your channel keep up the great work
(sorry for my bad english, hope its understandable)
"I'm totally balls deep in you so don't be offended." Love it lmao
Coast Guard: Can you go back to insulting us. Less cringy.
C17 Loadmaster and my 24 hour pack consists of breakfast lunch and dinner, a french press for making cold brew, naproxen for the back pain, laptop for watching videos, nintendo switch, water bottle, hammock. Those 24 duty days really get you.
Things I keep in my assault pack: wet wipes, wet wipes, wet wipes, wet wipes, wet wipes, wet wipes, socks, wet wipes
You forgot the wet wipes.
Wipe that grin off your face, soo close yet 2 far away.
@@lakepostell6912 Haha, damn. A veiled threat and the guy just has to take it. What if he's tech savvy and a psycho, the kind of guy with a shotgun and a grudge and he tracks you down? One guy dead and the other guy doing 20 to life all because of a You Tube comment. I'd buy tickets for that show ;)
This guy's dry, deadpan humor is outstanding.
Love your videos man. Have you ever thought of making a Go Bag video sometime?
Zachary Schulling will do
Garand Thumb, did you DO it? The video, I mean. I can't find it. Yet.
Inquiring minds wanna know, Bro.
Really great videos. Keep them coming.

Holy shit. I have the exact same thing. Just ordered a Banshee 2.0 to replace my regular Banshee tho.
that is my favorite part about being a civilian now I can final pack wet weather gear.
Waffles, ninjas, my IOTV, my M4 :(
Black pack with black background- Brilliant! Really another great informative video with a smidge of humor-all in good fun bro.
i tried joining the army back in 09 and was rejected for medical reasons. it was particularly hard because i was the first generation in my family to not serve. thanks for the acknowledgement for us civis and rejects.
what's everyone's take on the 72hr rush by 5-11?
Shout out from an Airsofter! Glad to see you don't diss us for "playing soldier" :P
My day pack is packed pretty similarly to yours.
Overwatch pistols incoming soon
M14 video when
If someone gives me a LRB built M-14 I'm game
Garand Thumb M1A good enough?
@@GarandThumb If I lend you my rifle for a video would you review it?
LOL at the Coast Guard comment!! As always, we're just glad someone remembered we exist. Great vid like usual!
"So, lets see whats in my pack"
*Pulls out spaghetti monster*
My stuff looking super cool is the most important thing to me lol. When I get smoked.... I gotta look tac 👍lol. Thanks for all of your vids and your service. I come from a milirary family, mostly marines... I skipped, didn't enlist. One of the biggest regrets of my life. I'm too old now mid 40's. I can however still play mall ninja guy 👍 and prepare for the apocalypse that's right around the corner.
Liking my own comment is tac
Could have used a couple more asymmetric references but another great video nonetheless.
Keep up the great work dude you're killin this UA-cam gear review shit.
Electrical tape can also be more water resistant than duct tape. Thicker grade electrical tape is fantastic for waterproofing wiring if needed so it would also be great for a day bag for many uses. And electrical tape can also be used in an emergency for medical uses. If you have a cut that’s not too deep but still a little bad, you can use super glue and electrical tape on top for emergency closure until you can get real medical equipment/help.
Love the airsoft/cosplay jokes. but on a serious note. Have you heard of Milsim West? I think we could use a guy like you
I Soviet Russia we use actual military bases and personal with their tanks and BTRs to play with us.
Haven't heard of them, but as it stands I'm far to busy to participate in anything else.
Garand Thumb, thank you, someone finally talked about plate carrier mounted pack vs a pack with straps!
chili mac is never wrong :) or Chicken fajita :)
Your comments on other various military branches reminds me of when I was I the Navy. We all bust on each other in pure fun. It was even more with my Marine buddies.
Bro you gotta run that HSP flatpack on your Plate Carrier pack, It's a great deal I've even used it on Deployment.
i was surprised he didn't bring it up, seeing that Travis Haley is Jesus and all
Jordan Ponath yea it's a great pack for that particular role
I have an HSP Flatpack and D3CR on my JPC. Pretty impressive stuff!
Love your shows. I use the info you put out for hiking and camping. So for my pack on hikes i carry a bladder for me and about 5 liters of water for my dog. We typically hike 6 miles
Do a merch. With combatshirts.
Jonny I'd go broke... but screw it. Lol.
Big fan of your videos and your humor. Thank you.
I shared your channel with my friends... nice vids 👌
I love your videos! Very informative, detailed, and funny. I always look forward to new videos, as I can count on the information being solid, and tested. Thank you sir. And thank you for your service.
Nice as always very informative !!👍
“Coast Guard hahahahahahahahaha” I lost it when you said that. I’m also Navy, so I appreciate the humor. And yes, I do have respect for the Coasties. Just have to give em crap.
I think I have a mancrush.
Thomas Jackson already volunteered to give him my children, didn't go over too well
Chuck Norris has got some real competition ...
#concealdontfeel
it's the plaid
John De Angelis ha ha, that's too funny.
You had me at “Pokémon go”
As a type 1 diabetic I appreciate what you said. 🤘🏼
Assault backpacks? No civilian needs a backpack made for war.
first vid by uploader I saw, subbed @ 20 secs just for the humble thanking
Gear larping is great but teach us those sere skills already. I know half that stuff is unclassified and you're just bein greedy
+The Weapon Collection that sounds like a Garand Thumb problem
He's waiting til he has more followers in his Cult of the Garand Thum3.....
Dick
he should start a subreddit!
I would like to see a video about clearing room or house and the tactical aspects of it. And THANK YOU for your service and all the videos brother!
"When I was in the Navy"
Wait. What?!
Why wouldn't the Navy slap the ol' franchise tag on the Tactical Lumberjack?! Did you get traded to the AF or were you a free agent?
Freudian slip
When I was in the Corps, we used to clip a carabinier to our flacks/plate carriers and clip our helmets to those. Also, our MTV flacks came with a butt stock stop. We could velcro it underneath a shoulder strap to give our rifles some purchase. Something similar to that may be a viable solution for having a rifle slip off of your day pack straps.
Too much stuff. I only carry a beard comb, ball powder and extra mags.
Fricken awesome content here man!!! Very well thought out and helpful for the rest of us patriots. Keep the content coming .
"ASMR"
As a Coastie vet, I have yet to meet another Coastie that couldn't take a joke. Usually we're happy to be remembered.
