One of the disadvantages of adapting books to TV is that you can't hide a secret identity from the audience because of actors. When Barristan joined Daenerys in the books, we didn't know it was Barristan for absolutely ages. He masqueraded as "Arstan Whitebeard", and Jorah didn't recognise him because he hadn't seen him in ages, and he'd grown a big beard.
Most people don't seem to recognize him anyway sadly.
Not to mention he was pretending to be the 'squire' of a very large and bombastic former pit fighter (Strong Belwas, who sadly isn't in the show) so was easily overlooked. Who would notice the quiet elderly man standing behind the huge loud man who's constantly demanding more food?
Arstan Whitebeard is the worst and best made-up name. Might as well have said "My name is Kingsley Bigsword" 😂

I read that Charles Dance, the actor of Tywin, felt so bad about the things his character always says to Tyrion, that after each take he went to apologize to Peter Dinklage 😅
This is something I've thought about a lot, not just specifically with this scene but in general. That must be difficult at times to play such mean spirited characters. Having to get into that mindset and say vile things to someone else, especially if you have to start being bigoted towards them in some way.

@@jfreitag88 I don't think Lena Headey has addressed this, but Jerome Flynn has denied it. You can google that too.
Having an ex around can take you out the character work you need to do. Especially if you had great chemistry that turns to bad or confusing chemistry.
So even if you are friends it can get in your head and affect a performance.
There was no real need for their characters to be together so telling people, they'd rather not bump into each other unexpectedly is not a strange or unusual ask. But some how fans have made it such a huge thing.

When Jamie mentioned that there are only a handful of people who might be able to beat him in a straight-up duel, Sir Barristan Selmy is one of them so when Jorah says he's one of the greatest fighters the seven kingdoms has ever seen, he's not exaggerating at all. He really could have carved up the gold cloaks (City Watch) like a cake when he was "fired." I love that character so much.
worth mentioning that in the books, Barristan is a bad ass still in his old age

He's done that a quite a few times. It's one of the reasons they have become my favorite reactors to GoT. The commentary is fun to listen to and it's obvious they are loving the show. The anger and uncertainty at times makes that part apparent the most, I think.

Davos carries his finger bones around to remind him of why Stannis cut them off. He has them in a little sack around his neck. That's why Salvador Sa'an (the pirate) joked about his wife wearing his bones around her neck.
And that is the last time you’ll see Bron and Cersei in the same scene. They dated in real life and it didn’t end well. She had it written in her contract to never be in the same room with him. Luv you guys!

Alot of people get annoyed with what Tywin said to Tyrion in this episode but what do you expect when Tywin tried to kill him by putting him in the vanguard in season 1 episode 9 when rob captured Jamie but I guess with neds death people seem to forget that Tywin has no love for Tyrion
Marjorie is ultimately a good person. But she has a very clear motive. She’s not cruel, like many are.
Majorie is a skilled player of the game. She understands that it is better to have the people on your side, rather than trying to kill you. She isn't cruel, but she is opportunistic.
And manipulative. Her goals and objectives for her family are no different than Cersei's.

@@MrCzerillo For the most part, yeah - continuing their wealth and privilege and bloodline. At least her tactics have some positives - even if, quietly, some of the problems her family helps solve are actually their fault (aka, the famine in King's Landing was due to the Tyrells cutting off trade links). Not outright murderous, at least.

You know that feeling when you get to your tent after a long day and take off your bones, so liberating.
The whitewalker fight in the beginning sounded so much more scarier in the books! Sam had one job and it was the ravens but the wind and snow were really bad along with the fighting. He really tried to send a raven if I remember.
That's right. He sends them all but forgot to attach the message in the books. It's a pity the show simplifies the storyline beyond the wall so much. They didn't seem particularly interested in telling those storylines.

The scene where The pirate told Davos about his bones around his widow neck is a nod to the books. I the books Davos wears his lost finger bones around his neck for luck and loses them in the battle of the black water (season 2 episode 9)

Now you can finally see why people love Margaery so much. Season three is so amazing. So many new amazing characters, great plotlines and character growth. One of my favorites.
Tywin blaming Tyrion for his wife/mother's death is a good mention. In the lore, Joanna was the only person that Tywin truly loved and the only person who ever made him laugh. So Tyrion has a couple of negatives going against him in regards to his father. His birth resulted in the death of the one person Tywin ever loved and he is a dwarf.

21:35 this was seriously peak Game of Thrones. Not one thing discussed in this scene is important (basically) but the subtext behind nearly every word that’s said tells it instead. It begins with Margaery “leading” Loras into the conversation, demonstrating that she’ll bend to whatever Joffrey says (specifically the forced laugh at the “at what point does it become treason to waste a kings time?”). Followed by Cersei jabbing at Margaery about her clothing, implying that the choice to show so much skin is intentional. Margaery doesn’t take the bait, and again Cersei jabs at her with the “open heart in Flea Bottom” comment. This is where Joffrey intervenes and insults Cersei, something Margaery obviously has wanted to do this entire scene, yet she doesn’t laugh. She doesn’t comment, but rather she watches Cersei intently, determined to see the reaction she’ll give to Joffrey’s disrespect. Cersei takes it on the face (which she doesn’t do for any other character besides maybe Tywin in a few scenes) and basically backs down to Joffrey’s challenge. Cersei even says “you’re right of course,” like, you don’t hear her so passive almost anywhere else in the show. In this scene Margaery learns two things; one, that Joffrey is always right. She’ll have to bend to his will, or at least make him think that she is, to get anything out of him. And two; that Cersei actually backs down to someone. That if she (Margaery) can gain control over Joffrey, then she will too obtain control over Cersei.
Brilliant scene. Kudos to the actors playing Cersei, Margaery, and Joffrey; very well done.

@@dustingill4202 Episodes 9 and 10 were great, the rest of the season was mediocre compared to the first 4 as far as writing is concerned. Production value, sure season 6 was great.

Margaery is masterfully manipulative, but in a good way. She isn't malicious, like Cersei. She convinces people to do or feel things that benefit her, which incidently pretty always happen to benefit them as well. Feeding the poor makes Margaery popular with the commonfolk, which benefits her and reinforces her status, but it also... you know... feeds the poor. Most nobles in Westeros couldn't care less abour what the poor think, so that on its own is a point in Margaery's favour both as a person and a leader.
Also yes... Cersei is incredibly jealous, and it IS funny and entertaining, lol
