Yes, this could be one of the most underrated song of all time. His version here blows away all the originals. I saw him perform it live years ago and it was good and loud. Gave me the tingles and I still remember it vividly.
Seen Dave Mason three times.....always a great show....There is something about him that is so sophisticated,...sophisticated Rock ?.....a real pro....love his guitar licks..Perfect.......
Back on June 9, 1994, when I finally got to hear Traffic perform this live at the Universal Amphitheater (sadly without Dave), I cried tears of joy. This is a wonderful version of the Winwood / Capaldi classic that Dave played on their 2nd LP. Like Brian Jones & Bill Wyman of The Stones, Dave probably didn't get credit for a good many musical arrangements that he contributed to Traffic's body of work. Those songwriting royalties are jealously guarded with the exception of The Doors, who shared all songwriting credit equally; very rare indeed.
This ain't TRAFFIC brother- This lightweight IT IS OBVIOUS, had nothing to do with them becoming a powerhouse. That is why they are so jealous of him and no Hall of Shame. If they let him in, my v=band. Almost the same thing with Bob Welch, w/Fleetwood Mack who also got lost because he was too oviosly a domiinater in the groups soum=ns. LISTEN- I'll take this fresh stuff ob=ver Clapton1/winwood shows.
I've always liked the Blood Sweat & Tears version. But this one is so different from it, and the Traffic version too. But unlike most youtubers, I can appreciate them ALL! Thanks for a great upload.
How times ( and attitudes change)...when Dave Mason was on tour promoting his 1st solo- "Alone Together".. he was recording a future "live" album at L.A.'s Troubador...someone asked him to do a Traffic song...and I remember him saying: "They're a nice bunch of guys, but you'll have to go to a "Traffic" concert to hear those songs." And now....... ^/^
I'll probably get insulted for this, but here goes. The first version of this song I heard was by BS&T. I really prefer their cover to this version or the Traffic version. I'm not saying either is bad, in fact they are pretty good, but BS&T has more expression, probably because they have more instrumental voices.
+Hackenflash1 ..no need to apologize....look at what the Beatles did covering "Twist and Shout"..."Long Tall Sally"...(Little Richard said Paul could keep the yell Paul copied and made more famous than Little Richard. Dave Mason has said he enjoyed hearing Joe Cockers "Feelin' Alright"...I liked both versions...but then, I'm a musician and can appreciate it from the songwriters point of view ....as well as any cover done in a decent manner. ^/^
Dave kicks some serious ass here. Totally underrated.

David Ringo perfectly said! King of cool!,
The guy's got it going on that's for damn sure. He's not trying to recapture his youth or any of that nonsense he's just playing some damn good music.
