Started and driven one the old Gronks POWERFUL BEASTIES! I’m and ex train engineer and wanted to explain the ‘whistle’. As 08’s were mainly yard shunters on hundreds of shunts a day at depots, they had WHISTLES to distinguish them from all other ‘DEE DAH’ air horns. The reason.......we had to walk across lines in depots to get to locos and you KNEW it was the shunter moving so were alert for it or coaches suddenly moving! If it was ordinary air horns it could have been ANY of the train sets or locos in the yard that were moving! At least this is what we were taught on Track Safety. 🤷🏼♂️
Always amazes me how much they can pull....strong little buggers
The older gronks with the whistles sound like tube trains

Devious Diesel sounds a bit different💀
Diesel: I sound like a silly steamie!
That has got to be rare stuff. A Gronk on a trip working.
Not in newport at that time, about twice a day EO1 tripper. Lanwern / Eask Usk AD jct and Newport docks
Excellent clip.
Being an 09 that means a maximum speed of 27 mph. E01 trip I do believe.
Very strange to see a mainline Gronk pulling such a lengthy train
Great to see
Sir topham Hatt is mad a Diesel becuase he forgot a breakvan😂😂😂😂
0:45 do Class 08's have horns or whistles? It kind of sounds like a whistle.
They have a whistle
@Kyle Hardwick I'm aware of that now, thank you.
