Solar wrote Moon Wind Flower Sun for the members and fans. The first 3 lines are each dedicated to Moon, Wheein, and Hwasa (I forget the order but I know Hwasa sings the line Solar wrote to her). And when they say “you, only you” in the chorus they’re talking to moomoos. Moon wrote her rap for Solar, since Solar took such good care of them and held a ton of responsibility for them as their leader and cared for herself last. Moon wanted Solar to know how much it meant to them. This song makes me cry every time.
"Be calm" is hwasa pouring out her pain and sadness at losing her uncle earlier that year (or the previous year, if you go by album release). He was practically a second father to her, so his passing hit her quite hard
And apparently the literal translation of the title is more like 'becoming numb'
The mv for the song was filmed by park woosang, who was a rbw producer at the time, but is now with a different agency. He still works with both wheein and hwasa, the latter calls him her musical soulmate
Hwasa found out he had been studying videography as a hobby and convinced him to film the mv for her. Afterwards, moonbyul and wheein also got him to film mvs for them, too. Sadly, we never got a pws-directed mv for solar before he left the agency (he left at the same time wheein and 'mmmtv unnie' did. Mmmtv unnie was the woman who filmed all of mamamoo's behind the scenes stuff until then)
You should follow the order of yellow, red, blue and white, there is a meaning to it.
Yellow with the beginning of the relationship and love.
Red with the passionate romance of the relationship.
Blue with the sadness and loneliness felt during the breakup.
White with the clean and pure stage before starting to love again.

The first song is a love letter to the fans, mainly written by Solar. The lyrics goes "Star wind flower sun and you..." which translates to:
Star = Moonbyul
Wind = Wheein
Flower = Hwasa
Sun = Solar
You = Moomoos (official fan name)
well star wind flower sun is basically saying "we wouldn't be us without you guys", it's a fan song, and yea, starry night is missing someone, and remembering time spent together with them
hwasa has such nice r&b vocals, it's really her genre
rude boy is solar and (somewhat) wheein being smitten with a guy who is definitely bad for them, and the other two trying to talk them down from being with him, pretty cool concept for a song

The song star wind flower sun (that are also in the name of the albums: star - byul (that means star in korean), wind - wheein (whee is the sound of wind, flower - hwasa, sun - solar (her name is yongsun). The song is for the fans 💜
Also hwasa wrote be calm thinking about her uncle that passed away, they were very close and he was like a second father.
And spring fever live on the 4 season concert is so good, you can add in the list to watch eventually 😊

Star wind flower sun makes me cry nowadays, not tears of sadness though. I went to their live concert when they came here to the US and when they sang it, the whole crowd sang along and waved our lightsticks. I just remember feeling the love of the moomoos that we all shared for the girls from that night.

Be calm is still my absolute favorite song out of mamamoo, its just such a chill vibe
I love the idea of listening to Yellow Flower in reverse order but you got off track with the breakup theme, esp for Star Wind Flower Sun, which, as others have mentioned, is Solar's love song to moomoos and everyone else who has loved and supported them. In the credits for the SWFS MV you'll see their dedication to "our precious people." Solar wrote SWFS to express her gratitude to the members, their families, moomoos and their colleagues and staff, and Moonbyul wrote her own rap verses as usual. Solar said she's not very good at expressing gratitude and the song was her way of communicating how she felt. Personally I never noticed Solar having trouble on that count, at least towards moomoos.
A month after Yellow Flower Solar released a solo version of SWFS on her Solar Gamsung album and performed it during her solo concerts in April and June. Moomoos conspired with the band and staff at the first concert to surprise Solar by singing SWFS to her after she completed her version, which made her cry and leave the stage. How she had the time to prepare her solo album and concerts while promoting Starry Night and Yellow Flower with Mamamoo is mystery but it speaks to how organized and focused she is while multi-tasking and it think it shows that she's the hardest working member of probably the hardest working group in show biz.
I figured out more of the meaning of SWFS when watching the MV 🥰 I didn't realize that Solar wrote the song! She's so lovely and that must have been one amazing surprise to put together 💙

Great deep dive! The first time I heard Paint Me I was left flabbergasted by how beautiful those vocals were! Today, I finally got to read the lyrics for Paint Me and before I realized I had tears flowing down my cheeks....what magnificent power these ladies have to evoke such emotion. The beauty of music is how anyone can interpret it and embrace it differently based on their own feelings and experiences, right? You really were onto something lovely with the idea of re-growth through the album I think, I absolutely got a similar sense from it, stemming from various situations.
What I deeply love about Spring Fever is not only its chill vibe but that they prominently utilize Byul's voice as the lower harmony to the other members' in each chorus, and it adds so much depth that it seriously feels criminal that she wasn't featured as much in that role in earlier albums. Be Calm is just... chef's kiss in every way, Paint Me is gorgeous, and I wanted to add that it's really cool how excited you are for instrumentals 😊not enough people pay attention to them I feel like, but they do deserve plenty of love, so thanks for featuring them too 🤘
The 4 seasons/4 colors project. Each member with a color that represents a season. Starry Night is a beautiful song. Star Wind Flower Sun is very sentimental for me at least as it was written by Solar to show her love for her members and MooMoo. There is even a version on Solar Emotion I believe where it’s just Solar singing the entire song including Byul’s rap if I am not mistaken. Paint Me in my opinion is an underrated and under appreciated b-side and I love it so much, even the Orchestra version on “The Best” album even though Byul’s part is changed from vocal to rap. I like that all the members got a Solo song for their respective album.
Speaking of “The Best” don’t miss out on that. It’s basically a greatest hits that are musically re-arranged and re-recorded as the members wanted to show their growth vocally as their voices have changed so much compared to the original release of say Starry Night or Piano Man. “The Best” also has Mumumuch as the only “new” song.
About Star Wind Flower Sun: Solar said she's usually so bad at expressing herself and sometimes it's easy to forget how precious some people are, so she decided to compose and write this song to describe how important her members and moomoos are to her and to thank them as well. As someone mentioned already, Moonbyul wrote her own rap of course. Besides the MV, I think the 4 season concert performance is worth watching too (the vocals are amazing and the interaction with the fans is wholesome).
Be Calm is such a healing song, and I love how Rude Boy's lyrics are like a conversation between the members.
What can I say about Spring Fever, I'm obsessed with this song for years now. The way Moonbyul harmonizes with every member during the chorus is so pleasant to hear (the live version is amazing!). I think the lyrics are about the loneliness a person could feel when everybody around seems to be in a happy relationship while you remain alone, but at the end there's a feeling of hope thinking that you can have that too.
Star Wind Flower Sun and Spring Fever are my favorite Mamamoo songs (but my fav album is Blue;s lol). I'm sorry my comments are too long, but I'm loving this deep dive so I always get excited while writing xD

Star wind flower sun as others commented was written by Solar, Lyrics with moonbyul but also the music Solar created that as well and is a song for the group, moonbyul's part is to solar and the You in this are we moomoos. But there is also a version Solar sings Solo. I have mentioned the Solar Emotion Project which is all covers except this is where you find this solo, i guess technically it is a cover as it is a mamamoo song. There is another use of this song. A few years ago after mamamoo won a contest, they came back to RBW and as they entered a room, everyone at RBW was there, singing this song, you can see members of purple kiss though way before their debut, one of them holding a cake for Solar, i think someone from onewe was playing a guitar but that entire group sang star wind flower sun to mamamoo and it is another tear jerker especially with Solar. I dont know everything, I cant remember which contest, but I have seen the video. The live performance of Rude boy in japan is very sexy, And really watch that Hwasa Show Mamamoo hit songs live collection, Besides the other songs the last one is Paint Me, live full song with a live band, and they did this last year so recent.
The album do really have a chill vibe but basically it's about love: loving the fans and the group, falling for a rude boy, loving the family and ourselves etc. It's warm but also longing. In the lyrics of paint me they explain what each colors represent 😊

Paint me is kinda special, because it's classed as the first time moonbyul sang on an album by a lot of international Moos.
