Stuff like this is the reason we needed to have event rule-books be like 12 pages long, single-spaced, double-sided and then eventually gave up and stopped hosting them. People who know very well the intent of a rule but can't help themselves but to try to circumvent it instead of just playing as intended. There's always that one person who ruins it for everyone. It becomes a lot less fun when you have to write a rule to close every single loophole that could possibly exist. I know the op remark was most likely tongue-in-cheek, but I imagine Gold didn't spawn in spawn eggs because he was playing by the spirit of the rule, rather than its letter.
You could just use saved hotbars to get ridiculusly op items here is how: Before the manhunt starts, in another world use commands to get op items (like sharpness 255 sword), put it in your hotbar and press C+9. When manhunt starts, next time you go to creative and press X+9 and you are going to have your sharpness 255 sword. You can do this because saved hotbars can transfer between worlds.
In videos with Creative mode you should use the entire stack of obsidian to make one huge portal. Maybe save 10 for an exit somewhere in the nether, but a 54 block portal would still be giant.

throwing it out as a drop would be faster than trying to decide where to place it in inventory hotbar. however, it wouldnt be as stealthy
