As someone who's been reading books since I was 8, I really hate booktok with a passion. And dark romance isn't when one partner is abusive, dark romance is when *both partners are morally wrong and horrible people* . I swear booktok saw the words _dark romance_ and were like, "ooh, abuse, so kinky". 💀
You're right about it not being about the kinkiness of abuse but I don't think that it's about both partners being morally wrong horrible people either. I mean it definitely can be apart of a dark romance book but it's not the focus. I always thought it was more about someone's darkest desires and fantasies but it's NOT about kinkiness. It's more about exploring different, darker kinds of relationships and the psychology/mind of people in the relationship as well as how it comes to be. It's dark, it's unhealthy and a self-destructive kind of romance but sometimes necessary in the moment and without it the person falls apart. I think good books in the genre are fascinating but bad ones devolve into just smut or glorifying a kink. It basically turns into a different genre at that point.

I'm just trying to simplify it because dark romance relationships are very self destructive to *both* people but for some reason tik tok sees a partner being abusive when it's really not the same thing. And a lot of new dark romance is just an excuse to write cringe smut for teens
@@baoziday5178 Yeah it is sad that the genre is pigeon-holed into that. There are so many stories that ppl don't realize is a Dark Romance because of the perceived notions of it. I don't know if you've seen Oshi no Ko but you can actually call it a mainstream Dark Romance yet nobody connects it to the genre. Albeit, the main focus is on the entertainment industry of Japan but a lot of it is about exploring dark relationships, especially if you read the Manga and get further into the story. It really captures why the genre is so good and everyone is so messed up in it yet if you look at it, they're ALL victims of their circumstances.

I feel your pain. It makes me literally cringe how so many of these seem to use 1st person phrasing while writing from a 3rd person perspective which I assume is so people can self insert which results in terrible prose.

To save you time in the future, here's how I do my videos. I'm prone to analysis paralysis but I've never had it about this. For context, I do seasonal anime discussion videos. Feel free to disregard if this process would not work for you; but it is at least what I've learned works for me.
1) Watch show (carefully select and research topic)
2) Make notes on what I want to cover about said show / topic.
3) Decide thumbnail, thumbnail caption if any, and title. Use this to further contemplate 2.
4) Use notes as a guide or decide if I'm writing a script.
5) Record my video.
6) Gather any outside materials I will need to edit my video. (Music, pictures, whatever)
7) Edit my video. (I tend to edit my voicework first, then add music, then add any imagery)
8) Have my editing software make the video file.
9) Upload the video file with all its information.
10) Promote the video on my social media.
I'm very sure you're used to all of this, but if you've never broken it down into baby steps and have days where ya find it daunting, maybe this can help. Have a great day.
