@zohi helps a lot. but, what if I know about this later? so, my song is already released on 31st May and now I want to get my song featured on Spotify playlist. is it possible?
The majority of the tracks in the editorial playlists are by big artists with strong managements. They release a track spontaneously and it’s immediately on dozens editorial playlists. An independent artist with the same track quality (sometimes even better) submits their track 3 months prior and Spotify doesn’t pick it up. Seems fair, right? It feels discouraging - I wished Spotify would give us, independent artists, more chances to make some money from streaming. Releasing an original costs so much …
Hey, it sucks that the way capitalism is set up right now makes it tough for us indie artists to get noticed and get opportunities. The whole editorial playlist submission process is like a big roadblock that we can't seem to get past. It's super rare that we ever get picked.
As an indie artist, Spotify playlists have been amazing. My song was featured on "New Music Canada" a few weeks ago and ended up getting 40,000 streams!
So I'll explain it much more simply and if I help you can pay me back by listening to one of my songs or something. This is how to do it: So basically when you upload a song to your distributor that gets you on Spotify (Distrokid, Tunecore, etc.) you should be able to set a release date. For example, it's October 1st and you set it to release October 20th. You need to upload your track to your distributor a few weeks in advance. This way Spotify gets your song but doesn't drop it until your release date (October 20th). Once you have that song up and waiting to be released, and in Spotify's hands, you can go to your "Spotify for Artists" page (just google that, it's easy to set up) and follow these steps. 1) Click Music on the top of the page 2) Click Upcoming 3) Submit it from there. It's that simple. In short, set a long release date with your distributor, go to Spotify for artists, and in Upcoming you will be able to submit it to their team. Any questions, just let me know!
This is the most confusing explained ever. Spotify emailed me this to help enlighten me on key features, and instead they just brought up a mess of features with no clear explanation on how to use them. Great one, team. Fire this video's director/write/creator/whoever.
You can absolutely make music for yourself, for any reason and for no reason at all. Sick and tired of these mainstream "influencers" and companies like Spotify acting like they own/know music and art. I can list 5 artists off the top of my head with less than 100 monthly listeners on your platform, but make music that is on another level from whatever mainstream bs you push in your curated lists. These artists make no money because they don't play these ugly games of over-promotion. We make music for a myriad of reasons, and getting heard is not necessarily one of them, even though it is a byproduct most of us want. Because we want our music to inspire people like others' music inspires us. So you're curating playlists, big fucking deal. Congratulations, you're a listener. Come back when you've meticulously created something out of nothing and not just living off others' hard work and creation.
Yeah man it's all fucking bs. They will never put your music in Playlist. Doesn't matter how good your music is. They only put you on if you have connections.
I understand what you're sayingSalvo, but there is this thing called reality, and the reality is that artists have had a double challenge since the beginning of time: 1. making the art or music is the first challenge. 2. Getting your art seen or heard is the second challenge. No artist is exempt from this double challenge if they wish to be successful. And the ONLY way an artist's works is seen or heard is if the ARTIST promotes it...this has been true for thousands of years and this is why so few people choose to become artists. On the other hand, if you're not looking to make money or get any recognition for your hard work, then yes, proceed as you are.
Spotify hired 'fake' artists to dominate genre specific playlists curated by Spotify. From Ambient to Folk etc. The top artists on these playlists were all imaginary artists, that don't actually even exist as real artists. But it just means that the royalty streamings from these fake artists would cash in directly to Spotify themselves. This is kind of criminal, but also it takes away the chance for real struggling artists to be in Spotify playlists. So, people, please do not believe everything about this video.
Guys, it's for real. I couldn't believe it, but I had 3 editorial placements in 2 weeks. It was just amazing. And one of them is still ongoing (The playlist is named TikiTorch) . It works, just make good music, and make sure to pitch every song .
We made it also to an editorial playlist "Instrumental Madness" without even submitting. So it is really possible even for small artists, which we are really thankful for!
This video has literally NO information. You should probably put a link to the Spotify Artist registry page. And then explain how to use that (which I already know) But I do not see any option for submitting music for a playlist. This video doesn't help at all.
I thought the video was good, but I had already known this information beforehand. The way you submit it to a playlist is after it's uploaded (BUT NOT RELEASED YET) you can go into your catalogue on your artist page and hit the "Upcoming" tab. There you'll be able to submit it for playlist consideration.
After you uploaded your new release to your Music distributor, it will apear on your homepage on artists.spotify.com This can take up to 2-5 business days.
Unfortunately curators with popular playlists do abuse the system and request payment for features. A handful we have tried to submit to or contacted have told us $200 and they will add our music to their playlist. It is really frustrating spending countless hours trying to obtain contacts for curators to then be told "Pay me".

How many editors do you have? 15? 100? I imagine they must be "experts" in few genres of music. So if you have 100, maybe 3 or 4 will be able or willing to hear the kind of music I make. How many songs they listen each day? 5? 10? 20? Doing only a rough calculation, you cannot listen to 5% of all the songs you receive. In the video the nice guy said "if your song is not picked by the editors, don't get disheartened..." (my words, but that was the meaning.) The chance that one of my songs will be heard by anybody is miniscule, and therefore - answering the first question in the video - yes, it seems I make music for myself.
Okay, so i can't send my music when it's already released. Am I correct? Ugh, I'm just learning how to promote my music as an independent electronic artist. Is Spotify really only for labels?
If i upload music early enough through a music distributor, does it automatically get playlisted? Or is there a specific site for it where we should upload our tracks?
Scusate ma non riesco a capire io possiedo un pezzo pubblicato che si chiama Serenity non è più valida l'idea di mandarlo alle playlist? Se un pezzo è già pubblicato?

Hello people regarding submissions for Spotify playlists, can you be notified your song is playlisted before it goes live or must it be once it goes live. Secondly, if I remove a song from Spotify before it goes live can I resubmit it later for Spotify editorial playlist consideration?
If you have a song you released on SoundCloud or UA-cam prior to releasing it through Spotify, can we still submit that song for playlist consideration?
but why some "artists" that even they don't they just upload speed up or slowed version of songs they earn money with it. They even are in playlists...
I really tried to play your game, @spotify, but I think I am spending more time on the whole meta data, video clips, background story, website links, promotion clips, Instagram... , than actually making music. I played your game and I lost. Not sure if I am tired, sad, or upset.
Hey Rico, sorry to hear that. I can relate to your situation. I guess, the only way to succeed with editorial playlisting is to make "radio ready" music for specific playlists. It needs to sound exactly as good as all major artists and I know one rapper who can do this. He is a regular guy but he produced incredible sounding production because he learned to do that. He gets featured on german spotify editorial playlists almost every release and know i know what spotify wants: Music that works for mainstream playlists. I know it's demotivational and depressive but that's the truth.. it's a cold business and we can either create our own playlists or we can try to create something that spotify editors like. greetings from germany let's keep our heads up high
I want to have my music on the spotify editorial playlist... I recently released an album which I submitted the best song with the proper tags and all the proper info but nothing happened 😭

If you submit via tunecore, doesn't it automatically go to the "Released" section? How do you submit your track to the "Upcoming" section via tunecore?

@@SpotifyforArtists We switched from Tunecore to DistroKid and the process was much easier. Still gotta be selected though... we didn't this round unfortunately but we will try again on our next release. Hope that helps!
So let me get this straight: in order to get a Spotify for Artists account you need to have music on Spotify. In order to pitch songs for a playlist the music needs to be unreleased. How is an artist on their first release supposed to do?

Thanks for the tips. I followed each step for submitting to the Spotify Playlist editors. I also have been sharing the pre-save link for my new single "Tether" (out 10.08.21), from my new album "Patience + Lipstick" out on my label, South Forty Records, on 1.21.22.
As everyone else has pointed out: Rather than lying and telling us that you can't pay to get on playlists, why doesn't Spotify create distinct playlists that are monetary and not monetary. Each would have a kind of marker, so you know which kind you are listening to, and we'll see how the ecosystem changes.
Dont let em get to you fam. Its not about the quality of the music nessecarily. They just dont give a shit about small artists and wont even give your music a spin, thats the problem. They act like its not payola but it really is. Big labels are controlling those playlists with money. Simple as that. If you have a great song, great release plan, awesome cover artwork and have written the perfect pitch, you got a tiiiiny chance they might pick it up and put it on a playlist. It sure wont be a big playlist as long as youre not a huge artist with label backing you, but at least youll be on a real playlist
I remember when I got playlisted by Spotify. I'm trying to get playlisted again with my new song Pride. Everyone's telling me it's really dope, so fingers crossed!
Great Information!! The most important things to understand is patience and persistent is critical. This video hits key topics from Spotify directly, like "Not paying to get onto playlist", "How to properly submit a track", "using hashtags" and this helps alot because too often people want a "homecooked" result from a "microwave" meal. Thank you Spotify :)

Paying to get your music into the playlist isnt scam, it is the most easiest way to put your music into the spotlight and have a higher chance to get followers and views, meanwhile. Spotify editorial Playlist will only give you lower chances to get your music into their playlist

awesome feature added to at least get a better shot at being on a playlist early and i hope it helps us artists in the long term.
Okay, so i can't send my music when it's already released. Am I correct?
Ugh, I'm just learning how to promote my music as an independent electronic artist. Is Spotify really only for labels?
i have tried to put all my songs in playlist but it seems like all latin music playlists specially Reggaeton are already bought
I sure my next song will be in yours playlist!
Love the way Spotify makes the impossible possible! Music & Love!!
If i upload music early enough through a music distributor, does it automatically get playlisted? Or is there a specific site for it where we should upload our tracks?
specific site, spotify for artist, depending with your distributor they will be ways to get access on it, or register directly with spotify for artist
Scusate ma non riesco a capire io possiedo un pezzo pubblicato che si chiama Serenity non è più valida l'idea di mandarlo alle playlist? Se un pezzo è già pubblicato?
What if I'm already using a distributor? Can I still submit/tag if I give big enough of an advance?
Hey there! Once your label or distributor has delivered a release to us, you can submit a track to our editors using Spotify for Artists. There's some more info here: artists.spotify.com/faq/promotion#how-do-i-submit-music-to-your-editorial-team. Any further questions, you can reach our Artist Support team here: artists.spotify.com/contact
But if we upload the music using distrokid. It always directly puts it online, Who do we need to contact so we have the time to make this happen ?
Hello people regarding submissions for Spotify playlists, can you be notified your song is playlisted before it goes live or must it be once it goes live. Secondly, if I remove a song from Spotify before it goes live can I resubmit it later for Spotify editorial playlist consideration?
But how do you send it to people as soon as it's released?
If you have a song you released on SoundCloud or UA-cam prior to releasing it through Spotify, can we still submit that song for playlist consideration?
yes
@@keithzengeya5604 Whoa, just saw this reply! Haha, thank you. ☺️
but why some "artists" that even they don't they just upload speed up or slowed version of songs they earn money with it. They even are in playlists...
Ho un altro pezzo che esce tra un mese dove cavolo si trova quel form da compilare e inviarlo a Spotify? Io non riesco a trovarlo
Great vid thank you, but my question is...do we just send you a track on our own, or do we have to submit to editorial team through a distributor?
Didn't work for me with my latest release :(. Maybe next time, who knows!
I checked your music, it's boring and you should realize that
@@osamabinladen2075 o ok.
@@Blarg And that's exactly why the industry gets too saturated and people hated and rightfully so
I will be releasing my first track and hence I dont have my Artist Profile. How can I submit my song then??
I haven't been given access to the Upload Beta, how can I submit my song for editorial review before it's released without this?
I want to have my music on the spotify editorial playlist... I recently released an album which I submitted the best song with the proper tags and all the proper info but nothing happened 😭
your links take me to the part of my artist page where i m suppose to pitch to you but guess what, there are no buttons to press to submit at all. NONE. after going through a labryinth of links. wtg spotify.
hello, i'm part of Spotify for Artists!
Well, let's allow all EU member states to access Spotify, that would be a nice gesture from you guys!
If you submit via tunecore, doesn't it automatically go to the "Released" section? How do you submit your track to the "Upcoming" section via tunecore?
Hey there! Once your distributor's delivered a release to us, it should appear in the "upcoming" section of Spotify for Artists. There's more info here: artists.spotify.com/faq/promotion#how-do-i-submit-music-to-your-editorial-team. If you have any more questions, you can reach our Artists team here: artists.spotify.com/contact
@@SpotifyforArtists We switched from Tunecore to DistroKid and the process was much easier. With Tunecore it never appeared in the "Upcoming" section but with DistroKid the song was there within like 24-48 hours of uploading the track.
The unreleased music is visible on the for Artist account and that's how you pitch it, backend
You cant, thats how
where do we submit tracks then??
This is great, hope my new single will get playlisted :D
did it get playlisted?
RazvanNn nah man..
Where can I submit my songs? And can't I have released tracks in those playlists??
I still have NO idea how to submit a track.
olen holm After you uploaded your new release to your Music distributor, it will apear on your homepage on artists.spotify.com
This can take up to 2-5 business days.
exactly! They skipped that part. Where is that form they were filling out even at?
Hey there! If you have an upcoming release, you can submit a track using Spotify for Artists. There's more info here: artists.spotify.com/faq/promotion#how-do-i-submit-music-to-your-editorial-team. If you need any more help, just reach out to our Artists team: artists.spotify.com/contact
@@SpotifyforArtists You say: In the Catalog tab, under UPCOMING, select SUBMIT A SONG next to the release you want to submit. BUT there is no option nor a BUTTON to press on to submit anything !! Maybe you choose for yourself who you want to submit a song. In the upcoming section there is only the "Learn more" Text. I triedto reach out to you via email. And you answered me to look for the answer iun the community. Wonderful service. I dont feel been taken care of !! Instead i shall ask people who dont´t have the answer !! Bravo. I´m very disappointed about how you treat this point. No answers and no help. I´m sad because you are the best amongst the other ones.
I uploaded through spotify for artists over a week out and it says:
Editorial playlist submission
Available soon.
???
u just been bamboozled
how do u actually do this on distrokid?? been very curious
i have the same problem, any soluuutions¿
Is this feature no longer available? Why is this?
Thanks for the tips. I followed each step for submitting to the Spotify Playlist editors. I also have been sharing the pre-save link for my new single "Tether" (out 10.08.21), from my new album "Patience + Lipstick" out on my label, South Forty Records, on 1.21.22.
As everyone else has pointed out: Rather than lying and telling us that you can't pay to get on playlists, why doesn't Spotify create distinct playlists that are monetary and not monetary. Each would have a kind of marker, so you know which kind you are listening to, and we'll see how the ecosystem changes.
They don't even have the balls to put 2FA, good luck with the playlist system you suggested
I've been trying for 3 years now. Spotify, at what point should I admit to myself my music is trash and I should quit?
Dont let em get to you fam. Its not about the quality of the music nessecarily. They just dont give a shit about small artists and wont even give your music a spin, thats the problem. They act like its not payola but it really is. Big labels are controlling those playlists with money. Simple as that. If you have a great song, great release plan, awesome cover artwork and have written the perfect pitch, you got a tiiiiny chance they might pick it up and put it on a playlist. It sure wont be a big playlist as long as youre not a huge artist with label backing you, but at least youll be on a real playlist
I wish you can pitch a song that’s already released
I remember when I got playlisted by Spotify.
I'm trying to get playlisted again with my new song Pride. Everyone's telling me it's really dope, so fingers crossed!
Good luck dude! Fingers crossed 🙏
where did you submit your song?
@@jpricethereason
Ahhh! That's the mystery you'll have to figure out yourself
I released 2 days ago. So, I can't get this on a playlist? I have to wait til my next release? Can't get my head around that. Well done, Spotify.
OMG Spotify best ever, I need this🔥
Great! Thanks for the This is John Clark playlist!!!
Very helpful video, thank you
So it doesn't work with music that has already been released? Why? At 1:33 you show a "pitch our song" page: How the **** do we even get to this page? You are doing a great job keeping it a mystery...
Thank you for the tips! Now to get my tail in gear to record & pitch! ☺
sometimes i feel they dont care about us

Had another talk about my issue with you
But I'm still young
I don't know why you won't help me
But I know you are better than this
And oh, I started
My career in your company
It's hard when we argue
We're both stubborn I know
But oh,
Sweet Spotify, sweet Spotify
Whatever your anger toward me,
Please put my song back on Spotify

can you submit music that's already released?
Unfortunately not
Is the feature ready yet/ out of beta? I can't seem to find it on Spotify for Artists >
Hey there! It's not possible to submit released music for playlist consideration, but there's lots more info here: artists.spotify.com/faq/promotion#why-can't-i-submit-released-music-for-playlist-consideration. If there's anything else, you can reach our Artists team here: artists.spotify.com/contact
@@SpotifyforArtists That makes no sense. Really what is the purpose of that?
Where do i submit that
Where i can submit it?
I'm always curious about how it feels to get playlisted. I keep trying and always submit my new music but no luck so far.
tell me about, have about 16 songs no luck
Lets not act like this is not a pay to win system for Major Record Labels now 😂🤣
They say that I can't pay to appear on Spotify and because when I turn on spotify I get big ads for new music that says: listen or ignore. I'm sure someone pays for those ads. Don't lie!
I’m interested in knowing how to get a position as a playlist editor. 🤔
What do really mean by saying by submitting early ?
I love you Spotify
Just Keep Getting ignored :(
Paying to get your music into the playlist isnt scam, it is the most easiest way to put your music into the spotlight and have a higher chance to get followers and views, meanwhile. Spotify editorial Playlist will only give you lower chances to get your music into their playlist
I know for a fact artists who have contacts and pay and stay at the top of these Spotify playlists for longer than they should
Quality content!
cap whenever i submit to editorial playlists through spotify for artist app, they dont fw me cuz they just a bunch of white ppl that listen to clairo
Hopefully one day!!
🙌🏼
Interesantisimo!!!!! Aplausossssss
Great video. Now tell us how to submit the song.
from an independent Musician From Iran:
Why you don't recognize Iranian Music in the Pitch system ?! you even recognize Khaliji music which is fine but are you want to hide the old Iranian culture that is not related to dictator governments?
we love Spotify cuz we could share our creativity without any religious censorship that dictators want. we appreciate your platform
at the same time, we request that plz add Iranian music to your Pitching playlist Systems.
damn...Just wanted to pitch my track today but it doesn´t work anymore cause it releases in 6 days, one too few...If I just had known yesterday lol DAMN
and you think that's fair? for the money you make and what you took away from the market and artists you should be pushing all of us , everyday on 100s playlists, now even that would be just close to fair
Hola. Los creadores de música a final de cuentas estamos sujetos a una elección que hará alguna persona de Spotify. Debería de ser con más igualdad y oportunidad para todos.
160 million listeners an my music is picked up by the algorithms that generate 10-50 streams/month. It is easy to understand that I will be recognized as an artist only when I get to the editorial playlists, when this will happen? Music artist Arnold Wittman
