Hi Mark, thanks for your video, it helped me to make the purchase decision! And I am generally satisfied with it, however there is at least one issue with that monitor, which could really be almost a perfect product to pair with Sony cameras. So, I am using it with Sony A7sIII and A7IV as well as mostly with Slog3 & SGamut3.cine settings. So, when I load a proper Sony LUT (Sony conversion to Rec709) it turns out, that the display is probably working then only in 8 bit mode, as I can notice significant banding, f.i. on the sky. Just curious; do you have the same? The second issue by the way, is that I need to pair it with the body every single time, which is annoying...
QUESTION: How do you connect to LH5P II to Sony camera via the USB-C cable? WiFi works fine but I wish to use USB to save on battery life. I turn on PC remote function, when connected, the monitor shows black screen while showing IRIS Shutter and ISO values.

Was thinking about monitor, BUT I have Sony ZV-E10 which plans to use for movies with Gimbal (already got Crane m3), and guess is no way to used it together BECAUSE of connection wire between camera and monitor will limit movement. Founded nice bracket for holding monitor, fasten to gimbal handle bottom . Maybe you know some smart decision how to make this rig?

After connecting my Sony A7 iv to the Portkeys LH5P II via WiFi it did not show the image coming from my camera. The menu looks completely different from everyone else’s online too. I’m super confused. This is my second monitor because I returned the first one thinking it was defective. But now the second one is having the same issues. Now it does display the image connected via HDMI but again the menu doesn’t look like it should. It still has all the settings like record, shutter, ISO etc. but I can’t swipe right, left, up or down. I can’t find anyone with the same issues online and I’m really confused. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
It seems the new FX 30 (& I assume FX 3) firmware updates cause the camera to disconnect from the monitor when powered off-& it will not reconnect when powered back on… That is what Portkeys told me when I told them I was having this problem… ugh

I’m wondering if the Sony camera runs into problems connecting to the monitor? I ask because I downloaded the Sony Monitor + app for my iPhone and it seems whenever I’m recording, it likes to disconnect. This makes me Very Leary of using a wifi connection.

Great video! I have the Sony FX3 and also the A7IV and I want this monitor. Noticing some differences in the way B&H and Amazon sell this same monitor. Need some advice from people who have purchased this monitor. B&H sells multiple different versions of this monitor? This implies that you need a specific version of this monitor to be compatible with your specific brand of camera and it's not in stock for Sony cameras either so you must wait 2-4 weeks for it. The same exact make and model monitor is advertised as in stock on Amazon for the same price but it says that their single advertised model is: "Compatible with Canon, Sony, Panasonic, BMPCC, ZCam and Gimbals." Can't find the reasoning for this on either website or the web. Can someone smarter than me please help me figure this out??????????????

I like the Ninja because you can record to it. And that can be extremely helpful - plus if you get a camera that records raw - you can record raw to the Ninja
The problem is no one is showing us how to set this up with our sony camera and I guess after the firmware update it is different. There is no "Control Smartphone" option on my FX3. I currently have a $400 Portkeys paperweight.
The first thing to note is this is not a fully wireless monitor. You must be connected via HDMI to see any kind of signal regardless of connecting to wifi. The wireless controls are the ability to focus, control iris, shutter speed and iso on the monitor without connecting any additional wires. But if you wish to use those extra functions on the HDMI monitor on the FX3 - you go to your network tab - click Smartphone Regist. Click Register Smartphone. In the next screen press the trashcan button that says Connect via Wi-Fi. This will display your SSID and Password. On your port keys monitor, swipe down, click on the camera with the wifi signal, say "add new device" - you should see you fx3 on the bottom click that and type in the password. You are connected. It's similar to what the manual displays for the A7III - but instead of "control w/ smart phone" on the FX3 it is "smartphone registration."
They are “Look Up Tables”. They are basically a preset you can put in your footage to colour grade. There are two types “corrective” and “creative”. I usually just use the “corrective” from LeemingLUT to get my colours accurate when shooting in log format. Check out my vid on HLG and that will show you some examples

After seeing your review about this monitor , I was wondering have you ever tried Monitor+ app ? That app can connect to any Android based device and wirelessly transfer the camera screen. I know it`s not for professionals but for the guys who are doing as a hobby like I do , would it be worth it ? Maybe you would consider to do a video about it :) I`m curious about your opinion.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis No it is a different app. If you will search for "monitor+app" I think you can find it. It supports all the Sony`s latest cameras including Alpha series and ZV E-10. They are updating the app regularly and adding new functions. I`m curious what would be your opinions about that app , it has paid version which unlocks all the functions but I heard that even the free version is very good. PS: I`m writing this comment for the 3rd time , I don`t know why UA-cam keeps removing my comment. :/

At the price point, do you feel the LH5P II is worth it vs the 25% price increase for the Ninja V and the option to add ssd recording? It looks like a great monitor regardless, but having the ability to record to a 2tb storage device as an option makes it a much harder sell in my eyes. Especially with how dang pricey the 160gb type a cards are for the cameras that can use them!
I really like the Ninja and I use it all the time for the channel. Overall - if you have the budget, I think the Ninja is the way to go. It's not as bright as this monitor, but it has a less glossy finish, so you can still see it OK in bright sunlight.
Excellent review, and quite the find. There are a ton of benefits with that monitor, not the least of which is the ability to control your camera from it. For the price, it's a good deal. May you and your family recover quickly from "that" thing...viral droplet spreading thing-a-ma-jig stuff.
hey mark, I'm looking for a new camera for my channel. tried the m50 mark ii, the little guy zv1 and his cousin the zve10, currently have the z30. but now thinking about A7C. Is it worth it? I hate the rolling shutter issue on the new sony cams. primary use is for some studio videos like yours and streaming and some outdoor vlog type of videos. any feedback on what to get would be incredible : )
The A7C is great. If you want to reduce rolling shutter (which isn't too bad on the A7C_ you can run it though catalyst browse and it will straighten everything up. Or just use a gimbal outside and you won't notice any. In the studio of course it's a non-issue

So in 4K 120fps with an a7s3 or fx3 it won't be able to pick up the signal ?
It still shows the signal just fine. You just may see a little ghosting or stuttering from time to time

This will work on all cameras as a regular monitor, but the wireless functions are different depending on you camera

no you won’t be able to record 10-bit from the a6600 with any monitor or recorder. The camera does not have the option. 8-bit only

Not sure about the A1 - but the A7iv clearly works as I used it in the video, so I can't see why the A1 would have an issue.

SONY A7M4 is unable to use the wireless control function because there is no Wi-Fi signal in LH5P 2. Why can't I connect?
I used the A7iv in the vid. You have to swipe down and connect to the cameras wifi
