I kinda know that the UP coals mostly go towards St.Louis...But as fpr these monster coal BNSF are they going to Chicago up that BN route Brookfield sub?@@KCTopDawg
Amazing Darryl! Double train action is for real, no doubt about that, I wonder how safe is it, but sure it doesn’t matter to the Big Wheels who are lining their pockets! The 🖐🏾getting out for the fresh paint on those BNSF GEVOS! Great job my friend!👍🏾🙌🏾👌🏾👏🏾
They're called combos. When two trains are near each other and going the same place they're just joined and a van picks up the extra crew. The chief efficiency is track usage: two trains can travel in one block, not needing spacing. Safetywise there are half the number of level grade crossings. Downsides are they're longer than sidings so passing one can be a problem.
Dude- love your commentary! At times, seems like you’re even talking to yourself - I do that all the time, reminds me of my Momma - and that’s saying a lot my friend! Im working on your slang, but the “…double MAC attack” needs no explantation. Keep up the great work! And yeah the ‘double-trains’ are pure profit generators to eliminate 1 full crew each double out on the mainlines point to point. Unfair and dangerous.
They are impressive but maybe not the safest idea. BNSF has had multiple major derailments of these monsters including Cairo Nebraska last month. Excellent coverage, I was hoping more video of these would be posted online.
Thanks for watching, and I have 2 playlists titled: DOUBLE TRAINS & ELECTRICITY OVERLOAD. Plenty of double coal trains in them. Also I have a video that premieres on 3-19-24 about massive trains as well
That literally happened to a crew I was assisting at King, Arkansas a while back! They brought in a mixed freight (crews refer to them as "junk trains" on the Thayer Sub) that had a bad FRED on the rear. I picked up the conductor at the head end and brought him to the rear, so he could check the FRED and see if they could get it working again. Turned out the engineer couldn't hear his conductor over the radio, but he could hear me in the van. So the conductor would relay the info to me, and then I would relay the info to the engineer! Oh, and on top of that, after trying several times to try and get the FRED to work, we had to wait another hour and a half for the responder to show up with a new FRED!
Nice catches! And definitely not the safest, nearly all the derailments are because of PSR, but it’s certainly the most profitable so nothings going to change…
@@KCTopDawgThose are the two biggest I've ever counted -- not that I count them all, sometimes makes me fall asleep LOL. The next biggest were a couple of 270 car coal trains I saw on Virtual Railfan's Kearney Nebraska live cam. Cheers my friend, and thanks for your fine work!
What's exciting is inspecting a passing train and you can see the wheels getting air above the flange on rough track . Can't get far enough away if anything happens . When your job is to inspect passing trains it ain't a lot of fun .
That train was 15,000’‼️ Maybe more? 2-3-2. 30mph, 6+minutes. @30mph 2 min/mile. 6 minutes=3 miles. BNSF is running a big time show of power and tonnage. Long trains like this are very safe because they are given clear track through. Steady at 30mph for 100’s of miles. We have many tracks through Cleveland, and 30mph and 15,000’ is far safer than 7,000’ and 60mph! Especially when rolling tank cars. There’s no hurry with dangerous liquids or coal. None. So long, steady and
…and the next train, pushing 40mph, had one of you best catches yet! When the 4 DPU’s came around bend, I was ecstatic. What a visual. 3-4-1. 5 minutes, 40mph = @3 miles again! 4 DPU’s twice. Impressive. 2-4-1. Major power, smoothness, and tonnage. What a great video. Hard to top that. Wow!
Double coal! The fuel of coal-fired plants is kept in a coal pile on the site of the power plant. They measure the pile in terms of days of operation. I can see where one customer can request a double load especially if there is cold weather approaching :) These trains are awesome as they have plenty of power and are excellent to watch as they go by. Safety - I don't know. More cars and more engines means more things could go wrong I suppose. One thing for sure there will be a few vehicles upset by how long it takes for the train to clear the crossing :)
Bouncing locomotives remind me of the old GE units back in the mid 80's , they would throw you out of your seat if you weren't paying attention . YEEHAW
They are running driverless in largely unpopulated expanses. Few grade crossings. No mixed traffic (passenger and freight). Only one product on the rails. No major metropolitan areas bisected. Very different circumstances.
@@matthewgaines10 Sydney has a new metro rail system - it’s driverless. Just saying ! RioTinto’s driverless trains operate port to port unmanned that includes loading at the mines, I’ve heard that they can also unload unmanned - yes it’s in a remote location my point being it can be done.
Typical PSR trains. Not safe since they started running them land barges. I will keep the nasty comments about a certain CEO that started this domino effect off the commenting section. Nice video otherwise darryl and have a great rest of your Monday.(Steve)
Certanly more profitable, though I can't see how a long train is even as safe as a shorter one. Certainly people waiting at grade crossings would vote for shorter, not longer trains.
It's all about profits, not safety. The RRs don't care about safety, it's low on their list of priorities. The RR doesn't care about the communities they go through and by. All they care about is profit and having tax payers pay their retirement, medical insurance, and pay for fixing and upgrading the RRs. Tax payers have already paid for a project 10 years ago that hasn't been started yet to add a second rail from Kansas down to New Mexico to keep trains from parking across crossings and having to wait for a single line to open up.
Thanks Hamilton and it's crazy how massive these trains get. I will have another video in a few days with even more massive trains. Feel free to check it out

@randallellison6421 oh wow that's terrible! Why was the radio communication so bad??
