Yooooo. First of all big thanks to B10N for providing the SFs for us. This is the stuff that grows our sport. As far as the tourney… Kudos to Jesse Mendez for taking it to Real Woods like that. That confidence boost has come at the right time for him and he’ll be going into NCAA’s ready to dominate. He’s prob OSU’s best chance to get a Natty and he can do it. I hope Dean Peterson comes out of this feeling good because he can stand with anyone in the nation of his feet. I’ve always liked him and with a little bit better mat wrestling, he too can be a champ next year or the following. But it’s really hard to think anyone could beat Braeden right now but none of this matters come next weekend and I’d love to see Ayala win it all.

Ayala is too timid on his feet--has a hard time generating real offense. He needs to start putting together some real combinations before he can bring home a title.

@@adamkulam7368 idk about timid... but definitely needs more consistent offense/confidence. Sometimes he looks great other times not so much... I also hope to see Ayala vs Davis for the ncaa!!

About 3 months ago, someone said: "Jesse Mendez > Real Woods," and like a lot of other people, I thought it was a stretch, but now, there's definitely validity in the statement. I hope Jesse wins a national title. I think his ceiling is higher than Beau's.

I think Iowa works their wrestlers too hard way too early in the season and their bodies peak at the midway mark

Agreed in general, though Patrick Kennedy seems to be getting better despite his body appearing worse.

And who do we think is going to beat Mesenbrink? Can’t see it happening. He has the tools and the confidence.

It seems like a lot of Iowa guys do real well one year and just completely flop the next. Wrestlers like Jaydin Eierman, Michael Kemmerer, and Jacob Warner made it to the finals one year, and the next, they placed way lower or not at all. This is the Brands' brothers' fault. They think their antiquated system of "outwork your opponents" will work. Yeah, maybe against most schools, but not when it matters most. I can almost guarantee that the only Hawkeye that's going to win a title soon is Angelo Ferrari because that kid would rather die than lose.

@suspiciousneighbor4799 I think Gabe Arnold will have success, but there's a lot of good heavyweights in college and leaving high school, including Cole Mirasola, Dillian Johnson, Nick Feldman, and Christain Carrol.

My uninformed guess is that he's just not physically what he used to be--either due to injury and/or age. Dude's getting kinda old compared to his competitors, so his success is constrained by his (lower) energy levels, which pairs poorly with his wrestling style. His technique is not sophisticated: heavy clubs, fighting for underhooks, massive level change & full-body fakes. Even last year when he was tech falling the field (much like Spencer Lee), he fought viciously in the first 30 seconds to get the first TD no matter what + ride/turn like a beast. He's not subtle, but he's effective. Now that he can't deliver that same energy, he pairs poorly against younger opponents who have the energy AND more of a technical style (e.g., Sergio Lemley, Jesse Mendez).
