Yeah, the roof rails were the tough part... the rest I could have just powered through. But you get those rails wrong and they stand out like a sore thumb. It's not on the chopping block yet. Let it fester a bit before I decide. Thanks Robert!

If I go that route I'll sacrifice a 2dr post car! Sheet metal work is certainly time consuming, but when it comes to those roof lines and the drip rail area, it gets complicated. Its all time and money, right??
Late to the game but yes, those reinforcement straps were welded on by Ford at the factory for most 56 hardtops and just a few 55 hardtops. The head scratcher is that there a number of 55-56 hardtops without the reinforcement… have no idea way. Great parts car there!
Just trying to imagine what that adds vs. adding channel or angle. And yeah, why were some skipped? Seems odd. Maybe Ford found a problem and scrambled to fix it? But that doesn't explain '56. Put a 390 and automatic in it with power disc brakes . Put the y block mounts on the 390 . Bolts right in . 65 mustang mounts with the stud for a 302 or 351 . They bolt right in .
I'm putting an FE in my other 56 Fairlane and yeah that was cool it dropped right in with Y-block mounts. I was curious about the mustang mounts, someone had once mentioned using. Was it just 65, or was it 66? I heard there's a slight difference between them... Ford... ugggh.
@OlysGarage any one that has the stud on the bottom .it's usually the early ones . Oh and oval out the holes in the Trans crossmember for the two bolt mount . Bolts right in.

@@OlysGarage we had a few 2 doors like the 1st of the falcons than 72 to 77 falcons an holden our gm had them 67 to 78 we had a few mustangs but being a small country an rhd the scale wasnt here for lots of models an we had the same 55 56 but no 2 doors we got sedan an ute the 59 fairlane was wagon an sedan we had lots of english cars an our usa cars were sourced out of canada to do with tax being cheaper being part of the crown an now our dollar is worth 62 cents us an we have a 25per cent import tax on everything over a grand aus dollar plus freight it gets expansive quick
@@peterselten500 that makes some sense. I think Canada gets or has gotten, rather, a fair amount of 4 doors over 2drs in those years too. Still you guy have some awesome rides over there. And you all got the Falcons and Clevelands we never got to have! I'm no chebby guy but even appreciate the style of the Holdens too.

Ah ha! So that IS a factory strap of metal on the bottom. It just looked kinda janky. Why? For support? Seems like an odd way to accomplish that. I looked up the x-member, it's over $400 now... WOW.
it is definately rough but not that bad .looks like you have too much other stuff parked around you will never get done...give it to somebody who will work on it and turn it into a nice car that plate on the frame is a factory addition....

But for some of them it was mostly to save it from the scrapper because nobody else was. 🤷🏼♂️ So yes, a few are slated to disappear soon. My vote is no on this automobile. The time spent with repairs could be time spent visiting Arizona, visiting Minnesota, visiting Carlisle PA car show. The money for parts could go for airline tickets. Saying yes to this car.......is saying no to so many adventures and friends.

Must be a victoria thing, my 55 fairlane does not have those .plates & btw i have my complete drivetrain available for sale cheep. 272 -fordomatic but im in Cali.
I think it is, neither of my sedans have have it either. And i swear it's got a couple extra body braces. I didn't count them when i had it in the air. I'll keep the 272 in mind... I'm in Washington, so it'd a bit of a drive. Also thought of yanking the 272 and auto out of the 56 Customline... (the one with the tarp over the windshield) but i haven't fired it yet to see how or if it will run. Thanks for watching!

Tee bird reproductions sells new crossmembers , I put three in my cars . Well worth the money . The hdtp had an extra piece on the frame .
