- Recently acquired is the new Steel and Gold Tudor GMT. The Root Beer.
A truly beautiful and subtle watch that will surely please you if you're after a 'traveller' GMT with vintage vibes. Taking inspirations from it's more opulent brother (Rolex) but in keeping with the Tudor aesthetic. I sold two watches I NEVER thought I would ever sell in order to buy this watch. Just bought this yesterday. I went in looking for the Pepsi, but my wife insisted I try this on. She swooned and I was taken by surprise by how gorgeous it was/is. It's rich and classy. You are totally correct. The photos do it no justice. I love it!
That seems to be the general sentiment with this watch. Nobody is terribly fussed about it to begin with .. until they see it in person and then you REALLY get to see it in the best light. OF course the same is true of all watches, pics never do them much justice, but this one in particular is exceptionally beautiful to behold. I thank you for enjoying my video and commenting. I intend to make more content with this watch some time soon .. haven't had much free time recently. Hope you continue to enjoy your new watch.
I'm surprised they have this in stock for you at the same time as Pepsi. At my local ben bridge, pepsi seems to sell really fast and I waited 6 months for my AD to contact me for root beer.
P.S I bought it on the spot even though there were a couple watches I was looking to purchase
@@MarkDanger777 This piece was very sparse at my AD. They were only allocated 6 for the entire year of 2022 and still haven’t gotten any more in. As far I know I has number 5. The Pepsi is also hard for them to get, but not impossible. This was Rodeo Jewelers in Vancouver BC. I ordered the Pepsi in xmas of 2021 and it took about 2 months for them to get one in (they were getting easier to purchase at this point). I rather wish I didn’t have to sell the Pepsi .. but I feel I traded it in for the right replacement as the S&G version is just stunning. Thanks for commenting :D
Great video. I got one the bracelet a little over a year ago, and there is no doubt, it is the best in my collection. Of all watches in my collection, it gets the most comments and stops on the streets from other watch enthusiasts. I really enjoy your review. I have watched it multiple times. Good job. 👍. 1978 was a good year eh! Yes, I agree .. this watch does get complimented moreso than any of my other watches. It's just simply gorgeous and, in my opinion .. a far more handsome watch than even the Rolex Root Beer version. Thanks for enjoying my review.
Got my Tudor rootbeer on the S&G about 3 weeks ago, stunning and exactly as you have described!! Had the pepsi, chopped in for the 1st edition black bay chrono...then had to chop that in to finance the root beer!! Always trade at the A.D and get looked after. Great review and as mentioned, once you see it, it's hard to resist!!!

Great video, I agree with your assessment of the S and G. I went into my AD to buy and try on a different model I had my heart set on, as soon as I saw the bezel on the S and G and tried it on, I fell in love with it. Never bought the original tudor, had my AD order this one with the nato strap.
It's suprising isn't it? Just hits you when you wear it how different those colours are to what you expect. And I find them so much more interesting and vibrant than the Rolex counterpart. Sure the Rolex may be worth more in the long run .. hard to argue with that, but I get the feeling the Tudor is one you can really enjoy in a lot of different environnments. Glad you like it and I hope it gives you many years of joy.
I've just bought this watch on Tuesday in Birmingham UK. The star wars " tractor beam" guided me into the window of Watches of Switzerland and there was the " root beer".

I had the steel and gold blue face Rolex sub for about 18 years and loved it, that said I now have the GMT Tudor, the Tudor Panda and Pelagos and like all these as much if not better believe it or not!
That's awesome to hear. Not that I'd mind owniing a Rolex .. but with the way the market is I just don't think that's ever going to happen. But for sure the Tudor S&G GMT is a piece with some real sex appeal and doesn't disappoint. Thanks for enjoying the review.
Got this watch last week. It is much much much better looking in person. Photos and videos do not do it justice. When they released it a year back, i was like Meh, but when i saw it last week, i had to have it, its understated and classy.

Hehe .. yeah I know what you mean. When it was released I felt the same .. just not bothered. I had the Pepsi version so why would I bother with the Root Beer? .. And then I met it in person and was like :O ... I knew I'd be selling some watches and buying it before long.
The colour scheme, domed crystal and burned phosphorus killed me😍
I know I said it over and over in the video (In hindsight I really should've editted it down a bit - well .. it was meant to be a 'first thoughts' video), but for sure the colours on this watch are impeccable. As you could see in the various shots .. depending on the light conditions the colours change in very nuanced and subtle ways. When that darker part of the bezel turns that dakr navy blue it's just killer!

Though I do see a LOT of errors in my edit .. but sometimes you just gotta clock ‘em, remember not to do that again next time, and move on :D But for sure It was my intention to make an informed video and given my best thoughts and opinions on this piece. I seriously is my favourite watch and I can’t recommend checking this watch out enough. There are more expensive GMT’s .. but this one is by far the loveliest.
I own the standard bb GMT and it’s one of my top 3 in my collection…has wrist presence, reliable, not too flashy like the Rolex and has that nostalgic charm. The S&G looks clean! Cheers bro!
Amazing review ! I love my Tudor GMT S&G I smile every time I put it on, the colors are just phenomenal and so unique , it gets more wrist time then my Panda Chrono and Black Bay 925 these days.
Thanks for enjoying. There was no way I couldn’t talk about this watch at least as a ‘first thoughts’ vid because it really deserves taking about. As you say .. those colours are outstanding and really alter drastically with the lighting. Between this and my Tudor S&G Chrono .. most of my other watches are not getting much wrist time anymore. The only issue is that in babying this watch a little too much 😏

Huge Tudor fan here. Tried on the S&G GMT this past weekend and found it suited me right down to the ground. I'll be owning one when my favored AD has one in stock, however there is no way I could make myself sell the a BB and or the Pepsi GMT to have it. I'd prefer to wait and have all three myself, what a great collection! You have an excellent collection of Tudor started that is great foundation to build upon.
I hear you man .. the Pepsi and the BB heritage are REALLY damn fine watches and it was a heavy decision to have to sell them. But, as I stated .. it was becoming a problem for me as I loved them both very much but was getting frustrated over having to decide between them which one to wear. Either watch is a 'one watch collection'. But the S&G is absolutely the right choice for me as it combines all the elements I like from both watches, throws in a nice splash of gold and 70's vibe and just looks awesome. Perhaps someday .. if I'm ever more than a low income plebian .. I will once again own the BB Heritage and the Pepsi .. but for now, I am content with this Root Beer, my S&G Chrono, and my new Rolex Air King. I'm having to sell a few other pieces in order to afford that last one.

I own the BB GMT since I bought it brand new 2 years and a half ago. I love as well the S&G but the thing is still I'm in love with my "Pepsi".
I agree with your thoughts and you're right, I own 5 watches and is more than enough for me. My two favourites ones are the GMT and my Omega Speedmaster.

I have had my Tudor Pepsi GMT for 4 years now, and have experienced the high and lows of ownership.
I didn’t like the look of the ceramic bezel on my Rolex GMT IIs; so selling those and buying the Tudor in 2018 was a calculated risk. Initially, I thought I’d won. I loved the look of the Tudor GMT, loved the movement (initially), and didn’t mind the drawbacks (it’s bulky). I have a 7 inch wrist, by the way.
But then the date wheel-issue came along, and I was so disappointed. I sent mine to the Dallas, USA Rolex Service Center, and about two months later, they sent it back with a receipt that stated, “new movement installed”. That was in 2020.
So far, so good. As of 2022, I’ve had no additional issues.
I wear the watch now on a seatbelt weave, gray, NATO strap, installing the strap in the manner where none of the bulk is on the sides of the wrist. For me, the result is a very professional and tool-ish look.
I am a pilot by profession: 26 years at an airline after 9 years in the Air Force. In my life, the GMT function (combined with the rotatable bezel) is quite useful.
I’d love to have been a one-watch guy, but alas, it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve been through a lot of nice watches, and am currently wearing my Rolex Explorer 39mm, also on a gray, seatbelt weave NATO, most often.
Hey there .. thanks for the comment. Yeah the Ceramic is a bit too flashy I feel .. I prefer the matte look for the aluminium insert. And the insert on this Root Beer version is so damned sexy. The Pepsi version was a real nice watch and it's possible I'll own it again at some point, but I want to keep my collection to no more than 4-6 pieces. As you probably gathered .. I'm a Brit living in Canada .. so for me, a GMT is entirely useful for monitoring times differences for friends and family around the world. It's actually surprising how many people own GMT's but don't need the functionality.
Yes it is too bad about the date wheel issue .. it's one of those ugly little facts about this movement that adds a tarnish .. but it's my hope that Tudor works hard to make sure that doesn't happen in the future. So far my Root Beer has behaved itself.

I know right? .. It's truly a surprising watch. And despite owning several watches that are more expensive than this Tudor S&G GMT .. it remains my absolutely favourite watch. And other commenters have said just like you that they weren't interested, until they met it in person. It's a superb piece and Tudor will have a real job to top it.
I tried on the Rolex root beer recently and I have to say the genuinely, I do not like the Rolex version. It's colours are far too plain and boring (not that one stands a chance of buying such a watch anyways). Thanks for watching and enjoying the vid. Hope you continue to love your new Tudor GMT.

I popped into a local AD last weekend and they had just 1.... made no hesitation to get it. The rep that helped me said he was getting yelled at by another gentlemen shopping for not telling him it was in stock. I felt bad..... for a second. haha
I just bought this watch yesterday and I am in love with it! Pictures and video really do not do it any justice to how it looks and plays with the light in person.

Aye, these are very much dependent on a bigger wrist to do well. I've 7.5 inch wrists which i feel is about the optimal size for this watch. Smaller than that really needs Tudor to produce a BB '58 in GMT in order to fit better. Imagine if they did that?!? .. They'd own the watch market :P

It is a cracking looking Watch I’m certain they will bring it down to 39. Owning the bb36 the bb58 Who ever thought they would bring out the bb 54. Well they did and I’ve purchased one this week. Interestingly if you look at the Tudor last year magazine, this watch is the only one shown on female model wrist. I agree that this watch is thick, but for some reason it looks amazing on smaller wrists.
I got the bb s and g in 41mm, which is very similar to the gmt. The brushed gold adds a touch of luxury , and I'm not normally a fan of two tone watches. Although it's a vintage inspired model , it feels modern and contemporary. The root beer is just as beautiful, but I find GMT, is annoying as I don't have the need for the extra hand. I don't travel far enough to need that function, but the bezel colour is really nice. They are a little thick , but it feels like your getting your money's worth , as it's built well.
hehe .. well you're not the first to buy a GMT and not specifically needing that functionality. For myself, a Brit living in Canada, I use my GMT practically .. all the time. It's very handy for monitoring the time differences between family and friends that I have in the UK, France and Gemany .. and also I tend to work at odd hours so when we're in the winter months a GMT is very handy for telling at a glance if it is indeed AM or PM (cuz sometimes one can't tell the difference at certain times of year).
I'd agree that this has just a nice extra punch of luxury with the gold accents. And it's a good robust watch anyways. The BB S&G is indeed a nice watch and I might end up with one myself someday .. though as I've stated in this video .. a feel a need not to over populate my watchbox :D

@@JustAboutTime, completely agree, the bb s and g 41mm is too similar to have both in a collection. To be honest it is a case of picking your favourite, because the chrono has a similar vibe too. All the black bays are similar , and personality I'd just buy the one of the variant I like the most. I've seen collector's having like 6 variants of the same watch ? That is mad to me, buy a different brand like a breitling or omega for example to test your tastes at least !!! Everybody is going to have different views to watches, but once you establish which size of watch you like to wear, then it's not too difficult . I have a 7.5 inch wrist, so 40mm t0 44mm works best for me .
Nice piece but I wish they made the gold continuous through the clasp and if it a bit thinner. But still a fantastic watch

Nice video. I try really hard to never sell a watch from my modest collection of about 25 pieces...Mostly Omegas, I always regret it later but i understand if you need to. Beauty of a watch you have and a great alternative to the over hyped/priced Rolex.
In this case, and I talk about it at length here in the vid, I felt ok selling the 2 Tudor pieces because It was essentially trading them in to combine them into one piece which really hits the nail on the head. So far I have very few regrets about it. The Pepsi GMT is a gorgeous watch .. but the Steel and Gold variant is just perfection. Thanks for enjoying my video .. I will be making a much artier video of the S&G Root Beer soon .. I have a nifty idea for what music to set it to :P

Well said! I wast at my AD today, hoping to pick up my Pepsi GMT. It had not arrived, but the S&G GMT was there. I was not prepared for the beauty that this watch presents… so unexpected! Now I am torn. P.S. Vancouver, eh? 😂 Love the video.
Indeed .. Vancouver Downtown .. well almost anyways. I live in Railtown which is a stones throw to the east of Main Street .. making it tecnically East Van .. but I like to think it's still Downtown Core as it's barely a 2 minute walk to the Downtown Core for me. And I shot this in Crab Tree park (before it got turned into an absolutely appalling dump .. sadly I won't be shooting a lot of luxury watch reviews in this park for a while .. certainly not for my new Rolex which I got a month and a bit ago).
But yes .. the S&G Root Beer GMT from Tudor is exactly as you described it .. 'unexpected'. Such a powerful combination of colours that, in my opinion, even the Rolex Root Beer does not match as well as the Tudor does. My Rolex may be my most expensive watch .. but my Tudor Root Beer GMT is absolutely my favourite watch.

Beautiful watch.
Considering that Rolex is $16K. And that Stainless Steel. This is a nice "reasonable" luxury GMT. I wish I had one. I got the Citizens Series 8. Batman. That's my budget. Love Traveller's GMTs. Would I buy the Rolex if I had the money? Yes. Would I buy the Tudor.? Yes. Got to be careful where you go with Rolex. People get mugged. Champagne taste on a beer income.
It's very true .. Tudor definitely draws less attention to the potential watch thieves (though you still have to be careful). Fortunately around here (Vancouver) such crime is not so prevalent .. in comparison to London or New York for instance. The S&G GMT certainly isn't cheap ($7500 CAD is still a big whack of change) .. but it's far more affordable than its Rolex counterpart, and if you go to a Tudor AD the chances are they'll actually have one for you to try and .. and to buy right there. The same cannot be said of Rolex.
What I like about Tudor is that their watches look like Rolex 30 years ago. Very simple and toolish. In 20 years this watch going to look like a 50 years old watch. And in 20 years modern Rolex going to look like a modern Rolex.
There's something to be said for this retro design .. one that Rolex just can't go back to anymore. And Tudor is perhaps the one company that can legitimately do it. It's a lovely piece this one.
I love my Tudor GMT S&G. The only thing I wish Tudor would have done was protect the center gold link near where the clasp is.. It scratches the gold
Yes, that is admittedly a weak spot. I've seen a lotof people who apply a small piece of sellotape (or Scotch tape for our US friends) along that inner link area to protect it. Simple and effective.

Great review. I bought the Tudor S&G. I love it but I feel i need to change the strap when I’m not in a formal wear (Thats just me personally)… I liked the black strap you had in it. What the black strap you have on it?
I can totally recommend Haveston nato straps. The Tudor looks great on a Khaki Parachute strap.
The Rubber strap I have it on here is actually just a cheapie from Ali-express but they are very good. Surprisingly high quality. Soft silicone rubber with quick-fit spring bars, and as you saw here .. mine is two tone .. Burgundy on one side, Black on the other. They have many colour combinations.

How did you get the Tudor hat? Does the AD give you one if you’re a frequent customer? Also, how do you get Tudor merch in general from ADs?
I've bought a total of 5 Tudor's from my local AD .. and with all but the first watch I got some freebies. So far I have two Tudor Unbrella's, One cap and one woolen hat. They're not obliged to give you anything of course .. but it's a gift for frequent customers. The best thing to do is ask .. sometimes they have stuff to give away, but it does depend on what they have in stock.

I see you have the Tudor Chronograph. I am considering one and wondered what you thought?
Hi there. Yes I do and I have to say that the S&G Chronograph is also equally as lovely. You can save yourself a fair bit of cash by getting it on the leather or nato strap .. but I do rather like the bracelet. It is the exact same bracelet as seen here on the S&G GMT.
The only downside to the Chrono is a bit of a design flaw with the hour hand .. the snowflake end does tend to obscure the subdials at certain times of day .. but frankly it’s one of those things I can overlook because it’s just a really damn fine watch. And an excellent movement. The MT5813 is a modified Breitling B01 and it really speaks of quality. The vertical clutch makes that seconds hand run very smoothly.
One point to remember .. when not using the chrono function .. keep the screw-down pushers .. screwed down to ensure water tight resistance. And don’t use that function in the water. I know technically the Blackbay chrono is still a dive watch .. and it can be used as such .. but never use the pushers underwater. That goes for most mechanical watches with similar chrono functions.
It’s a beautiful piece. Whether you get the S&G or the Steel white, or black dial .. of the new champagne dial S&G .. they are very nice watches indeed. If I had to keep only three watches .. it would be my S&G GMT, the S&G Chrono, and my Omega Seamaster 300m

@@neilmckenna236 That's fair enough .. Certainly for the market rates you could sell your sub for .. you could definitely afford an S&G Tudor Chrono ..or even the regular chrono. But you might wanna take a look at the Black Bay line in general. They're very fine watches and any of them could be a 'one watch' collection.
I’ve considered a chrono also but after watching “5 reasons you should not get a chrono” video, I dropped the idea. Now I’m getting this GMT S&G with leather strap and I’m on my way to my AD who called me this watch is available for me. I’ve sold my Rolex Datejust 41 and use the money to buy BB Pro and about to spend on this gmt s&g watch. Totally no regret in selling my Rolex.
@@johnheng3277 the Chrono is a very nice watch .. and if you were after a good sports Chrono with style and flare the Tudor Chrono is definitely worth it. It’s biggest drawback is the hands set which although look great, aren’t terribly practical for this kind of watch. But for sure the GMT is a very satisfying.

Sadly I got a really crap amount for both watches but I had to act fast. So the root beer cost me literally two watches. But .. all things considered, I don’t regret the swap. I lost money on the two .. but I gained an incredible Tudor.

Maybe a little .. but at the end of the day if they were solid links .. the cost of the watch would be so much more. Instead of it being a $7,100 CAD watch it'd be more like $15,000. As it is I think they did the right amount for it.
