One of the things that always peeved me with Ford is them refreshing the F150 all the time. The 2015 Redesign trucks look old these days, which is weird as 2015 MY seems relatively new in my head.
Pros: -the digital clusters across the board -12” screen across the board -36 gallon tank standard(finally don’t have to search for a unicorn 36 gallon tank) -tailgate is cool, not sure how useful it is but it’s cool Cons- PRICE INCREASE. If they are cutting parts for easier manufacturing, I was not expecting a price increase by $2k -looks are not terrible but the 21-23 trucks looked amazing compared to this -lowering towing capacity was not smart in my opinion. Part of the reason I like these trucks is for that 14k towing number -getting rid of the 3.3 will be good in the long run because the 2.7 is a powerhouse but is not good for the fleet customers that want a cheap and simple engine. Overall disappointed with the refresh. I was expecting more to be done or maybe some major powertrain updates. The look is not terrible but they really tried to hard to try and make it look different. They should have left it alone.
Agree with your breakdown. Smart for logistics/less parts, so they charge more & make more. Overpriced and they raked every customer charging over sticker price at a lot of dealerships during covid.
I haven’t watched the whole vid yet but if the tailgate is barn door style then it could be very useful on a heavy duty truck or a work truck (assuming the payload is enough) because a forklift would be able to place a pallet further into the bed without having to slide it in. Or if sliding it in, would be able to place a pallet further into an 8’ bed.
Well generally putting things in as standard like the bigger gas tank and having standard features will lower the capacity of the truck as was said, it's a con, but it's not a big one, the difference isn't big enough to really worry about as it's still the class leading truck overall. Price increase is obvious and to be expected, nobody likes it, but you can't really say deny it being warranted when looking at the bigger picture of things, now that's only because it's 2k, on the higher trims it might be a lot more and that's where things get a bit too much. Looks are overall subjective, I personally love the changes, others do and others don't. Overall this is decent, more info and more time needs to pass to see how it goes and works.
I actually hate digital clusters. I couldn't afford a new pickup anyways but if I could I would buy an older truck anyways. Just not a fan of all the screens.
I may not be the only one but another $2000 increase in the total cost is really putting the cost of a truck out of the reach for the blue collar workers 😡just like Harley Davidson motorcycle Ford has made buying an American products a rich man game
Buy a 1990's F700 and stuck a 460 with a 5 speed and a Gear Vendors restored for half the cost and rack up 500,000 before the suspension wears out. You can drop in a new 460 every 5 years with 7mpg with the money you would save... and the other guy will have to pop another $75k down for a replacement truck.🤷♂️
@Bikes0420except the others don't have the styling of Harley or Indian bikes. Sure you can get good bikes from the others but to me they don't look as good. I will say the one bike I regret selling was my 84 kawasaki police 1000. Bought it at a police auction. It wasn't a fast bike surprisingly topping out just shy of 90 mph but I could ride that bike all day and never once got saddle sore or strained back and arms while my buddies all had to stop to stretch specially those riding café bikes. The guy who bought it turned it into a drag bike which is what happened to most of the old kawasaki police bikes.
Remember a few years ago when you would get at least 10k off the list price and the intreat rates were at least half of what they are now. I wouldn’t touch a new vehicle now until things change, and they will with new government leadership.
It's been longer than a few years ago but yes I remember buying a Ram 1500 for 10k off msrp plus had tinted windows, step bars and floor mats added for no extra cost. Now in 2021 when I bought my new f150. I felt sick to my stomach that I only got 2k off msrp, but looking at it today, I guess it wasn't as bad as it could ha e been
Governments job is not to control prices of private businesses. Consumers play a large role but NOT buying the junk anymore. Governments job is to NOT take out massive loans from the privately owned fed reserve, thus causing (inflation) everyone to raise their prices of goods and wages. In 2020 the US govt added $7trillion in nat debt from the fed reserve. THAT is why companies like Ford are out of control!
I got a 21 F150 extended cab XLT for $37k, 12k miles used. Guy who ordered the truck got a super cab instead of the super crew. I think it's a fantastic truck for that price, 4x4 and 5.0 V8
Calling this a redesign would be like calling the 2015 expedition a redesign, when it wasn't, they are both just the existing truck with a slightly different interior and different engine options.
This is probably “repurposed” 2022 and 2023 models that sat on lots overpriced and not selling. I’ve been a Ford guy my whole life, but the brand is losing me solely on the scummy predatory business model. The trucks are “nice”, but not at the price they’re trying to convince people to buy them at.
Great videos, thanks for the review and info! Scanning the comments, I’m disappointed by 80% of viewers complaining about price. Of course it’s expensive. It’s a new truck. Watch different videos or something. Also, note that you can buy it new for $50k, drive it for 100k miles, and sell it for $35k. That’s not bad. It isn’t like you just burn the $50k. Rant over. Lol
So what determines whether or not you get the column shifter? I always thought it went away with bucket seats but that’s apparently isn’t the case. 8:20
The lower trim levels like the XL, STX, and the lower optioned XLTs have had column shifters for awhile now. The STX has had a column shifter even with bucket seats since around 2017 or 2018.
If you get the XLT chrome you still get a column shifter. Lariats and above automatically get a console shifter. XLT sport gets a console shifter. All XL/ STX get column shifter
Sport trim will get the conse shifter for sure. I waited till my salesman could find one .personally really like the sifter on the console plus you get a black interior which I like
Just go buy a 7k used truck and if it breaks you can just buy another. Repeat that 5 times and you’ll still spend less than the base model of this truck.
Paid $10k for my 2010 F150 XLT, the engine could blow tomorrow and it would cost less than a average downpayment or ~6 monthly payments on a new truck to rebuild it
Definitely a refresh and not a redesign. Aesthetically, I think it looks better than the current gen, especially the light pattern within the lenses. The black "mascara" shroud around the front-end kind of feels cheap though I don't mind it--would blend in ok with a black truck. Digital dash and 12" screen across the board. Good. New tailgate. Meh. Worth trading up? I don't think so. What I'd really like to see is the Powerboost get a plug-in option with more usable electric-only driving capabilities (ie, speed + range). Hopefully in the next gen.
I have a 2021 PowerBoost and I can agree with all of this. I like the new headlights, and would like more electric power. Also that tailgate is stupid.
Will they finally fix the crappy 2.0kW inverter in the base propower? And to that end, will they offer Tremor with powerboost/hybrid so that it can have the 7.2kW pro power option?
Great review as always!! Too bad they don’t make an affordable pickup for the common working man. I predict sales will be down on these 2023 models - high cost, minor changes from previous models, customers who remember how they were treated during/post pandemic, etc. I will stay tuned.
You think that’s the case but the big 3 top selling models are the Platinum, Denali and Limited trims so there’s obviously a market for them and people keep on buying them.
TFL Truck is awesome. Off all the TFL channels it is my favorite by far. What is not awesome is how Ford keeps raising prices while fuel costs are through the roof, inflation + interest rates, and Ford has not addressed the dealers adding their ridiculous "fees". Go price a F150 Tremor with a 5.0 engine. It costs a few thousand less than what I paid for my 2021 Ram 2500 Laramie. Simplified means you the customer get less for the extra $ Ford wants you to pay. Buy a used truck and drive it until it falls apart. That is the best deal going.
Love you guys! Glad to see some of the changes and I think this confirms I am keeping my 2022 F150-TREMOR! only thing 2 things I love are the HUD and new front bumper. but for nearly $79K wow. my oh my.....
Ford fan here, owned many. I hope the interior quality increases dramatically as I have a ‘21 F-150 Tremor and a ‘22 F-350 Limited and the interiors suck. From Andre’s comment the interiors are the same, I am guessing not.
Had a 2015 F150 Platinum. when the aluminum first came out, incredible truck! over 100k Miles with no problems, i was a car fanatic kid with magazines stacked to the ceiling closet, along with being a Chevy family my entire life. and said i would NEVER own a Ford. well...lol....The new F150's are the best vehicle's I've ever driven, other favorites...Land Rovers, BMW 3 series, Tesla, Porsche 911. buy one you wont regret it. ;-)
Hardly ever saw a 3.3 as a base engine anyways unless it was a fleet. So not much change there. I got a stx in 20 for 47k. I lm pretty sure they are going to find a way to add 10k to that.
you hardly saw it because it was the most reliable option so Ford did not want people to have it 😂 My grandfather got a 2018 Sport single cab, reg bed in Magma Red with the NA 3.3
The problem I'm seeing is they will be building them mostly one configuration instead of adding options as it is now. It's gonna be pretty much one way or no way.
F-150 Lariat with a few options = $70k. F-350 Lariat Tremor Sport and few options (total options 9k) = $76. I think F-150 is about 15k over priced today. Why would you ever buy a F-150 Lariat for 70k and not a 1 ton truck for 76k?!
Quick history lesson, the multi-purpose tailgate was actually invented 1966 by Ford engineer and product manager Donald N. Frey. It was called the magic doorgate.
I think everyone is blowing the price increase out of proportion. First off, the base engine is the 2.7, which is way better than the 3.3. If you add the 2.7 to the base 2023 truck, it’s $37,760. That’s less than a $1000 increase. Second, ALL trucks get the 12in Sync 4, LEDs, and Digital Gauge Cluster. Third, no one compares the lowest anyways so if the everyman’s truck (XLT and Lariat) don’t increase by much, then the price of the truck didn’t really increase.
Sucks to see the thrifty 3.3 go away, but the 2.7 kind of makes sense as a base engine. I wish manufacturers would promote certified pre owned or "refurbished" or something like that as a new form of base model to give entry level buyers better options than the base xl trucks, not that the xl is bad or anything. This is not a redesign, if this is a redesign, im Linus tech tips.
@@josephf593The duratec 3.5 is extremely reliable in things like the 2011-19 explorer. But it's not the best engine for truck duty. The 2.7 is literally regarded as a bulletproof engine, extremely durable, and pretty darn powerful. It's a better entry level engine, especially if they can pull it off without drastically increasing the price.
@@NWI_Steel It does, because fleets need a powerful, capable, and reliable as hell engine, the 2.7 is all of things for not a ton more money. If the 3.3 was anything like the 3.5/3.7 duratec, then it was reliable, but low on power.
As a guy who owned 9 trucks from every brand (except a Nissan) including a '92 F-150 and a '22 F-150 Lighting Lariat EV. To me, the 2024 F-150 has sooooo many crazy, complex, random, unorganized lines with the hood scales; side vents; angles and lines (inside & out) that don’t "flow" with other parts of the body. Crevices all over; mirrors; or tail light lines (which do kind of look like Nissan Titan); along with a busy top dash, that doesn’t match… it’s just a design that (to my eye anyway) is going to look super old (and old fast)… where simple is better for not looking old over time. Plus, with the "Pro" tailgates trying to copy the Ridgeline. But unlike the Ridgeline it’s a lil’ door that a forklift cannot drive up to with 4x8 sheets or load a washer & dryer (like my wife's Ridgeline has done with ease). And also the buttons to operate the power tailgate up and down are obviously hard to reach and unintuitive without a remote after watching a few videos. And now Ford is charge even more $$$!!! 🙄 Buy the time I got my F-150 Lightning (which is long gone now w/175 miles not being near enough as it turned out, even with the biggest battery pacK) Mmmmmm 🤔😏 Ford Corp (NOT the dealer) had jacked up the price 2 times to where the swing was about $17,000 MORE. Now Ford cannot give the Lightning away. Hope that may help others out there. 😇
Great Video! I sold my RaptorR in favor of a '23 STX which I just took delivery of a week ago today. Great truck. Plan is installing the FP700 blower only.
How great it was that Henry ford was anti-Semitic and the nazis traveled here to gov whim an award. And ford built equipment for Nazi germany. That’s so amazing.
Whoa! Wait so they have always had a 6 year cycle for redesign- 2009-2014, 2015-2020, 2021-*** Now they change? Ok, Ok, they look like a refresh more than a redesign. The interiors are the same and much of the other is similar which makes sense. I remember when they started the 2015 year with the aluminum. I bought one and it still used the 6spd and the same ecoboost, then in 2017 they added the redesigned ecoboost with the extra injector to clean the ports and also the 10 speed. I got one of those! So thanks for sharing.
I looked at a Maverick yesterday to replace my aging commuter vehicle, sticker was 32.5k with a 3k market adjustment for a total of 35.5k. I walked away, I'm not paying a market adjustment. I'll shop somewhere else and let Ford keep it
Well now Ford has decided to make a nice update to the 2015- 2018 F150,. This new trucks might make considering trading in my 2015 5.0, but wait, the prices…for the new ones make it impossible.
Same here, I guess I'll be keeping my 2015 a lot longer than I anticipated because I refuse to pay over 35 grand for an F-150. Ford can kiss my ass if they think I'm that stupid at today's interest rates. Can't wait till the car loan bubble pops.
2015-17 5.0s are the unicorns imo. Modern Aluminum body, tried and true 6 speed and 5.0 (in 2018+ models, the 5.0 was known to have some oil consumption issues and some people don’t like the newer transmission)

What a truck. Buying the SLT version of thistruck as soon as i come back home for the holidays. OTR trucker here
I may not be the only one but another $2000 increase in the total cost is really putting the cost of a truck out of the reach for the blue collar workers 😡just like Harley Davidson motorcycle Ford has made buying an American products a rich man game
@Bikes0420 It's an image and lifestyle thing.

Definitely not a "redesign" like he said.
Definitely not "all new"
They probably told him to say that lie.
It's called a refresh.
As a fan boy I do disagree with calling this all new.

Rant over. Lol
Thanks TFL, keep up the good work.

Don’t forget to hydrate!
Maybe when I win the powerball, I’ll have one in my garage….
Reflector headlights on the tremor? That’s crazy for a 60k truck.
It is stupid.
Ford's about the greediest manufacturer there is, they'd hold power steering hostage to the highest trims if they could get away with it.
The 401a tremor in 2023 had reflector leds, and the 2022 came in an xl trim that had halogens.
You'll need to buy a 21 Tremor if you want to pay $60k. The 24 402A with just adding a moonroof stickers for a little over $79k.
All LED now for all trims.
Bought my 2014 FX4 brand new, looks like I'm gonna keep it for another 10 years.
I wonder if those tail lights cost 1400 for one light
More than that! A mechanics video on UA-cam shows $5.5K for to change a pair on Limited or Platinum. It is shell + all the sensors etc.
You know God damn well they do.
That all depends if you get the led option with blind spot monitoring

Quick history lesson, the multi-purpose tailgate was actually invented 1966 by Ford engineer and product manager Donald N. Frey. It was called the magic doorgate.
Yep - that's a classic and great feature.
Of course they called it the magic something. Magic in the 60s was like calling something turbo in the 80s, it was everywhere.
My local dealership has a bunch of trucks. Multiple 250 and f350’s. The lot is completely full.
I have one and only one question. Are LED headlights now standard on all trims?!?!?!
Sadly I doubt it
Yes, the lower trims will have an LED reflectors and the higher trims will have an LED projectors
The emblem does light up. I’ve seen the pre production models at the factory at night 1:33
I’m just happy they retained the V8 Coyote. And the 10-speed transmission, which for me has been a revelation in my 2021 Roush.

Right plenty of inventory just in time for the UAW if they strike, plenty to sell during the strike!
Only problem is they won't be available until January and that's without a strike.
So I thought they were going to use less parts and have a cheaper truck. Silly me for thinking.
Yah, but it’s 90% easier TO ORDER…. Not sure how they measure that. Easier for the dealership, I suppose. 😅
Cheaper for THEM, not for YOU!
It doesn't make sense for fleets
@@NWI_Steel It does, because fleets need a powerful, capable, and reliable as hell engine, the 2.7 is all of things for not a ton more money. If the 3.3 was anything like the 3.5/3.7 duratec, then it was reliable, but low on power.
Ford's gold certified pre-owned program is a good deal
Yeah the 2.7 is supposed to be pretty darn reliable and only like $1500 more iirc. And a TON more power and thus resale value.

The interiors are the same and much of the other is similar which makes sense. I remember when they started the 2015 year with the aluminum.
