#1 thing I wanted to know was about Winnie! Glad to hear she is going with you! Also smart about delaying her arrival.
Same here Dustin! I also love that they’ve already found a border collie community in Bangkok. That made my day 😂🥰
Hi from Thailand! It's brilliant here, although it will definitely take some time to adjust to the heat. Even with the heat, there is a massive running community. Hopefully by the time you arrive all the parks will be open again. They're usually full of runners early morning and in the evenings. For runs exploring Bangkok and the surrounding areas there's a meetup group - Bangkok Runners. Again hopefully by the time you get here they'll be starting to organise things again. Also, if trail running is of interest there are loads of trails (obviously not so much in Bangkok, but basically anywhere else in Thailand).
So stoked for you guys! Lots of exciting times ahead :)
It all sounds so exciting - can’t wait to see your adventures unfold XX
I'm excited for your next chapter! Thank you for taking us along with you and letting us join you on your next (running) adventure!!!

Been watching recently (just started running again after LONG break) and have enjoyed your (Collective) positivity, honesty and teaching/coaching abilities.
Saw this and thought I must check out why/how you ended up in BBK (I always wondered). Thank you. I look forward to your updates, smiles, honesty and positivity over the next few years….. love it Ben and Mary (and Winnifred).. please keep it up.
#Inspiring/#fun/#here’s to living and loving life.
I love this! And I am super jealous! And even your dog is going!!! Your plan is really good re Winnie. I am a dog owner too and I concur that this is better.
Fellow teacher here! Moving to Australia within the next few months. Haven’t got a job set up yet. Inspiring seeing my your video and looking forward to following your journey!
Oooh good luck, Lucy! That’s so exciting. We’d love to live in Australia too. One day 🤞🏼😊
Guys I've been quite busy lately and I am catching up on your videos. Running under the hot sun is hell! I am currently experiencing this here in Milan, Italy. Today I wanted to do a tempo run at 5:20 for an 18km run but with 30 celcius I completely failed! I have my first official half marathon next week but I've decided to go and enjoy the run and not go for time! On a positive note with all my training I've done a 14km run up on the mountains with way lower temperatures and I have finally managed to break the 50' time for the 10K (48:36) so training in hot weather definitely helps! Can't wait to see you guys in Thailand! I feel so excited as if I know you guys for so long and can't wait to see this next chapter in your lives!
joy - nothing much more to add really is there - wonderful
We were booked to do the Angkor Wat half in 2019 (and a big trip of Vietnam and Cambodia) but my husband’s dad became ill so we had to cancel the trip 😢 Can’t wait to see your video of this! We will get there one day 😊 Good luck with all your plans xx
This is mental and super exciting guys. Can’t wait to follow your journey as always!
Ha ha thanks, buddy. Always a place for you to stay if you want to head south east-asia way 🤟🏼
Runsplorist? Loved that! Wish you both a safe and great move, it is a lovely country, clean and disciplined, friendly citizens and with many places to visit. Great idea to have Winnie with you. Best wishes and good health 🙏
Good video guys and wish you best of luck with the move
Good luck guys, we lived and played sport in Singapore for years, once you adapt to the humidity you’ll love love love it.
Great video guys !!
The Phuket International Marathon is amazing you will love it. most everyone was doing training in the early morning around 2 or 3 am when its cooler. Spent a month in Thailand and plan to go back when flying is happening again.
Travel safe
Inspirational couple xx
Thanks so much, Nina 😊
Great video. My wife Kerry and I feel excited for you. We moved to France coming up to five years ago now and the main change in running is having to run earlier in the day to beat the heat. Good luck.
Love Thailand! Looking forward to your videos!
Thanks Johanna! Can’t wait to make them 😊
If you are looking for a race this year, I would suggest Laguna Phuket Triathlon (November), held in Phuket island, and the Westwind Trail (December), Trail running held in Pai, one of the most beautiful location up North of Thailand.
Having spent some time in Thailand. I can say you guys are gonna love it. The forests to the north and the beaches to the south are stunning. The people are beautiful. The only challenge is the humidity
True that. We’ll give it our best shot. And thank you 😊
Wow! Very exciting. Good luck with everything!
Thanks Clive 😊
So excited to see how your new life will be in Thailand!!! I grew up in a town in the northeast of Brazil that has a similar climate (super humid and temperatures never go below 23 degrees). You learn to love to wake up super early for that morning freshness and to enjoy exercising in the rain, as it keeps you cool.
Also, just embrace the sweat. You will always be somewhat sweaty when outside, is just how it is when is that humid 😅😅😅
Ahhh thanks Isa. Glad to have you on the journey. Brazil is on our to do list too!! 😊
Good on you guys.
Fantastic news! Lived in Bangkok for 2 years and Hanoi for 3 years, so many adventures ahead of you!
I can’t imagine running in that kind of heat, but I know you too young people can do it! I personally love running in 30-40 degrees! Looking forward to your move and seeing your adventures there!
Exciting times ahead for you guys.Love the channel and looking forward following your journey in the months ahead. If you ever get over to Sydney when the world gets back to normal hit me up for a run.Mick.G 🏃♀️🏃🏻♂️👍
It's going to be awesome, so exciting, will be cool to see the videos from there, glad the Winnie situation is sorted, great plan to meet her off the plane🙂
Thanks Andrew. Yes, we’re happy enough with the current plan…. Just 😂
All the best guys. You will have loads of fun.
Thanks buddy 😊
so so glad i stumbled upon this page, watched several of your videos now and just found this one of you guys moving, congrats!! love you guys and what this page is about. you sir have a great way of talking and presence on the camera and i love mrs awkwardness when you ask her to sign off LOL!! i traveled china, south east asia and nz a few years back for 7 months and its an incredible part of the world, im sure you will love it, hope doggo manages the heat alright. we have a working cocker and like you said they are as much apart of our families as humans for sure!!
Thanks Carl! That’s so kind and I’m glad you found the community too. I’m clearly biased but it’s the best one 😂 you sound very similar to us! Hopefully you stick around and join us on the journey so we can be a part of yours too 🤟🏼😊
You will love Thailand. Been travelling there for over 10 years and will live there at some point. Have done the Bangkok marathon and Anghor Wat half - great races!
It's so funny to see this video from 2021 after just having started following your channel a few months ago and only having watched your latest Videos. I followed your Journey in 2023 and it was so inspiring to see you improving so much not only in running, but in everything you share with us on your channel. It motivated me, and probably many many others, to keep chasing my goals and believing in me and that I will get where I want to be with my running. And now I see, that you said "There's gonna be no PB's" (11:41) before moving to Thailand because of the hot weather there and you simply getting older. I feel that you really meant these words back in 2021. However, Mary PBed in almost every distance in 2023 and Ben got a marathon PB if I remember correctly from one of your latest videos. Now, I'm even more inspired by your journey. It really shows what you can achieve in life if you take on new challenges and move beyond your comfort zone. Love from Germany ❤
I lived in Chiang Mai Thailand for 2 years and went running nearly every day, but I ran early mornings about 5.30 to avoid the worst of the heat. A lot of the races start very early, some marathons start at 2am to give you a chance to finish before it gets hot.
Good luck guys and enjoy.
Absolutely love your channel 👍🏃🏻♂️🏃♀️💪🙏
Been living in Thailand 7 months! Great experience, love the food and relaxed lifestyle!
Though Bangkok is big/slightly chaotic and you will struggle to run outdoors in the heat and poor air quality, will be lots of treadmill runs indoors in air con ;) or outdoors in the early early morning.
I will follow you guys on your journey, hopefully there will be some familiar spots in your videos :)
Cheers
it depends upon exactly where they are in Bangkok. I don't think there is a Brit prep school in the heart of polluted Bkk, so by the sounds of their house, they could be on the skirtings of BKK and therefore there will still be runnable places around. Short day trips will find them anywhere from Kanchanaburi to Rayong and everywhere in between! All the best guys, the best running is in the South, (slightly biased there)!
my thoughts exactly, Bankok isn't a runnera paradise! I've run there a few times and found it terrible for running! great for vacation...not so much for running...
@@mitchellatkins9701 that is true, good point!
Nepal base camp marathon is a bucket list one for me
Oooh I like the sound of that 😍
Exciting news! Looking forward to seeing the new adventures!
Thanks buddy! I’ve still got Chicago marathon on my hit list so watch this space as it would be amazing to have a run or two with you 🤟🏼😊
@@ThisMessyHappy can't wait!
Welcome to Thailand! I'm also a British teacher who has been living (& teaching) in Bangkok for the last 8 years, I'm a sort-of runner in this humid sweatbox. I also did the Angkor Wat Half Marathon a few years ago. Get in touch if you have any questions, and best wishes for the new adventure.
Thanks Daniel! That’s awesome to hear. What school are you at? We’re working at Denla. In north Bangkok.
It's uplifting to see your enthusiasm. Wish you all the best and as you imagined. It must be fascinating to challenge yourself professionally in a totally new place. Wander if the teaching will be more fulfilling there...
Funny the place you describing as a paradise I see as hell with this heat, humidity and bugs. For the last 10 years, my country of choice is Scotland, the country I fell in love with. We are very privileged to have the freedom to choose the place we want to live in. Travel safe, take care and stay healthy. Seb
Looking forward for Part 2! Hello from Indonesia ; )
I’ve got a friend who’s a runner in Thailand, same sort of situation as you guys over there being a teacher. The heat will be horrible at first - like unbearable, but you just get used to it eventually and the only difference becomes the hydration
Beautiful care of your dog xx
🐶 😊
Congrats on the move! Definitely not jealous 😦
My wife and I, both teachers, did a similar move 7 years ago. We didn’t change countries, but we did the climate jump that you’re talking about. Adjusting with work was hard but the lifestyle made it so worth it. Good luck!
Sounds idyllic. Have a wonderful journey guys. Looking forward to sharing it with you. Am I a tad bit jelous,🤔🤔 hell yea. 😎😎
If you are coming to Perth come in our winter when it can be cool so you get a change. Lovely flat courses round the river are definitely PB material. The Gold Coast Marathon is also a PB festival apparently.
I went to Vietnam last year before covid. Would highly recommend it. Lovely beaches and cities.
Looking forward to your running adventures. If you are looking to drop by in Singapore, happy to help arrange anything for you all.
We have a border collie here in NZ and in the summer we shave him (recommended by our vet) .........you might have to think of doing that for Winnie as it will keep her cool. The groomer we take him to doesn’t shave the tail (their pride and joy). So excited for this next chapter!
You will love it! I moved to Hong Kong when I was 27 for three years and had a ball. Whilst there I went to Thailand a number of times.
Ahh thanks Becky!! Cannot wait 🙌🏼🙌🏼😊
I've been living in Hong Kong for over 20 and studied in Korea for a few years in the 90s for two years. North East Asia is awesome, but I've always found Thailand - especially BKK - incredibly tiring. Once you're on the economy with tuk tuk drivers honking at you every three seconds. Exciting regardless, would love to know where you will train. Did a couple of runs around the various parks, but traffic and pollution was a mess. You should definitely sign up for a marathon in Korea and one in Japan. Hopefully the conditions improve allowing all of us to travel more.
I can’t wait to follow ur journey u lovely pair ……and of course the gorgeous Winnie ……💕
Ahhh thanks Clair 😊
Great plan for Winnie
Thailand is beautiful. Koh samui, koh phi phi - just amazing! Make sure you get to HK and do the moontrekker race. Lived in hk for 18 years and always went to thailand
Will there be any chat in Thailand??? 😉 Sounds like an exciting journey ahead for you both good luck with the move
Best of luck. I moved from Vermont to Florida (U.S.). I’ve been here over two years and I find the heat and humidity intolerable. My running has suffered. I’m moving back to Vermont as soon as I can.
Great video. Best of luck on the next exciting adventure
Welcome to Thailand, gotta need some use to heat when running 😅, but you will love it 💪🏻
Thanks Albert. Cannot wait 🙌🏼🙌🏼😊
Respect, Winnie is the number 1 priority!
I had to check for you both..... there is a Costa in Bangkok !! Phewwww !!!!
What an epic adventure. Every time I've picked up and moved in my life, it's been a major growth spurt on a personal level. It gets you out of your ruts and reinvigorates your life. I moved from the midwest to the mountain west here in the US. Definitely harder to run here in terms of altitude. Less humidity here but we also have the dry heat here. I think Thailand is definitely going to throw you some curve balls, but I bet it'll be exciting. I will miss seeing all of your London / UK runs though. You have given me a virtual tour of the running scene out there. I'll continue to tune in. What are you guys doing with your car, out of curiosity?
Thanks Eddie. Yes I hope so too. I hope it’s another personal growth spurt. Although I could do with a literal one too 😂
@@ThisMessyHappy I also consider the running scene and environment any time I consider a move. Hence my reluctance to live in Phoenix for more than 60 days. Too hot!
Congratulations. I've been in Thailand for nearly 2 years now; my wife is a teacher at a Bangkok international school. It's a great life and I'm sure you'll love it. from 1st July you can quarantine in Phuket, so not stuck in a hotel room; having done hotel quarantine, the Phuket option is great, if you can arrange it.
For running, the heat takes some getting used to; I was running for 2 hours in the gym, but gyms are closed; now an hour is a long run in 35C and high humidity, and at the moment having to wear a mask whilst outside (yes, even when running!). The nicest running place I've found in Bangkok is Nong-Bon lake; look it up when you get here! And carry lots of water; I did a 50-mile bike ride last week and got through 4.5 litres in the 3 hours! For a 10K run I still need 1 litre on the run!
Top tip - get a car and explore outside Bangkok; Thailand has so much to offer. You'll love it!
Awesome! That’s some great info. Definitely looking in to Phuket for the 2 weeks. Which school is your wife at? And if you want a running buddy and we’re near then me and a mate are both moving to international schools (me to Denla and him to Harrow). 😊
@@ThisMessyHappy Bangkok Patana. Would love to join you for a run; I'm coming back to the UK at the end of June for 3 months, to see my family and friends, and for a wedding, though my wife has to be back in early August. I'll message you when I'm back mid October.
The human body is amazing at adapting. Before you know it you will be used to the heat. Im X SA so come form hot to cold and wet used to love running in the heat. Have we just had summer this year in the UK
My dog is my top non-negotiable for me too.
Awesome
Hey Ben and Mary, now Benjakitti park in the middle of BKK is pet friendly. You may check it out for Winnie
Some parks to run at in Bangkok:
1) Lumpini Park - Outer Loop is 2.5km
2) Suan Rot Fat/Chatuchak Park - Loop around 2 parks is about 6+ km
3) Rama 9 Park - Outer loop is 5.5km
4) Benjakitti Park - Loop is 1.8km
5) Benjasiri Park - Loop is 750m
6) Bung Nong Bon (dog friendly) - Loop is 5km
7) Bang Krachao - various routes and distances
Some trails to run near Bangkok:
1) Khao Chalak, Sriracha
2) Khao Mai Kaew Reservation Park, Chonburi
3) Namtok Sam Lan National Park, Saraburi
And many more! The weather is hot and humid 90% of the time so make sure to bring and drink a lot of water during and after the run. There is an expat running community called "Bangkok Runners" that you can connect with to meet up and run together. As for races, plenty to choose from in Thailand for all surfaces and distances. Have fun!
I’ve been looking for this video for along time. I’m destined to do something like this… just don’t know how yet 🤨
Greeting, Hope your dog come easily. i do have three Labrador and always run with me 6-8 km every morning. Please check out one of the best trail run in Thailand " Mae Salong trail" in Chiang Rai at the end of this year. I am an ironman and we do have a lot of race in Thailand. Good Luck
Congratulation. We are also international teachers now living in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. You are going to love Thailand, Bangkok is a bit hard work for daily running but I am sure you will find your feet. I might take you a while to get use to the heat, longer runs completly take it out of you and recovering is a bit harder. Thailand is awersome for running events, I have actually been slightly jalouse this last year as Thailand has been much more open during Covid and actually had lots of running events. I absolutely recommend Chang Mai area and the north of Thailand for running it is amazing. Get in touch with Harry from Harry Runs he was working there for a few year. Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam the Philippines and HK have some great trail running events. We started teaching internationally in 2004 (HK, Dubai,Norway and now Malaysia) best decision ever, the world will now be your oyster. If you need any help or advice (about teaching abroad, about travelling in Asia, moving etc) just get in touch.
asia is amazing you'll find your hayfever will vanish and you'll find you will acclimatise in a couple of weeks or so you tend to find most people will train early morning when its bearable but then if it anthing like the philippines you'll be up early when all the cockerels wake up you really will love it
Great video as always! Your going to have to change car chat to something else. For example: Beeeeeaaaaaacccccchhhh CCCHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAttttttt! Puket Ironman! is a brilliant IM! My advice for training in that client, is to take salt tablet 30 min before your training runs. Short or long! For Winnie, add some salt to her food in the morning before your run with her. Carry run belts or run vests, in which I believe you guys already have! Slainte!
Great adventures ahead. How long do you think it takes to acclimatise to the heat and humidity.
The Everest base camp trek is meant to be amazing (and far, FAR more affordable than actually climbing it). Would be awesome to actually see it with your own eyes.
Greeting from Thailand. I'm Thai. Consider from both of you love running, I think your may choose to stay at southen of Thailand like Phuket. Because southen part has better air quality entire year. Northen and central have very bad air quality (PM 2.5) from Dec to Feb of next years and you cann't run outside at all. Good luck for your journey!
Thanks Arma, yes I read about the air quality but we may have to get a treadmill as we’re living in Bangkok! 😊
@@ThisMessyHappy I joined a gym for running when there's poor air quality. Most of the year it's fine.
Hahahaha English rain..... hahahahahaha oh wait till you experience a proper Asian monsoon downpour. Your triathlon training will come in handy!!! Everyone I know who has moved to Bangkok has loved it and as expat teachers at BIS you will be well looked after I am sure. Get used to early morning running when it's cool.
