  • How beautiful are these Bangkok parks for running? We headed in to the centre of Bangkok to experience running in Lumphini and Benjakitti park and I can tell you that we weren't disappointed!! They were awesome! There is definite potential for longer runs and even exploring more of the parks in the coming weeks. But it was a great start!

My personal view: i like both, but perhaps in dedicated instances rather than mixed vids.
For instance, I know you’re a running coach, would love some great training theory, training block design, pacing, etc vlogs a la strength running or Seth demoor. Then, separately, some vlogs on Bangkok > Thailand >SE Asia exploration which is so unique to your experience. This is as opposed to posting one vid with a bit of both elements.
Just my 2c- you’re a joy to watch so I’m here regardless of what direction you choose!

Hey guys, we'd love to see more of you settling in and discovering Bangkok/Thailand. It's all part of the journey, is it not? Running is probably what brought most of us to this channel, but we keep turning up because of you and Winnie.

Thanks Bart. As always! It’s so tricky to work it all out because it seems UA-cam is now struggling to know how to recommend the videos so the channel is struggling for momentum!! It’s all a puzzle but it’s bloody frustrating. I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve though 😉😂

Hi Ben and Mary, we're currently holidaying in beautiful North Norfolk and went for a run in local woodland called Pretty Corner before walking along the coast in lovely late summer sunshine. It's still very early days for you both to acclimatise to the weather, culture and new location. To stay focused we have several 10k's booked in the diary. Running in Victoria Park, East London on October 9th. Looking forward to seeing your runs/races as restrictions ease in Thailand. Take care 👍😇

Love the run exploring, but also keen to see what else you do outside of running. Daily routines, places you explore, how you have found the transition from UK to Thailand. And other exercise related things that you do (s&c for example).
With regards having a goal, I am totally with that. I really struggle with motivation unless I have a target race or event to do. I am primarily a triathlete but not being able to do any tris this last two years and my swimming has dropped by the wayside completely. I cannot find the motivation to go just to swim.

I watch your videos religiously for the awkward outro's (sorry Mary!!) No, I think in reality you just present a wonderful, lighthearted, continuous story and although I found your channel specifically because of running, you could be talking about kayaking, watch collecting or art history and the journey and the relationship that you have with each other and with us, would keep me coming back.

I do have problem enjoying my runs when I do not have a long term plan behind it. This year has been a year for recovery from sickness and injury and I did not do any races. I will start a half marathon training in October and already look forward to it. I think its always important to have a goal when you run it doesn't need to be a race, but a race helps to build a little more pressure because there is an actual deadline. Working with no deadlines would not work for me as I would never reach the goal thinking ok I will do that.... some day 🤣

@@ThisMessyHappy Last weekend my long run was 15 miles which was the longest I’ve ever done. I made several mistakes. I ran out of water at around 9 miles. I tried gel which I hadn’t previously… after that run, I was ready to quit! I have a couple good friends who helped me analyze what I did right and wrong with that run and my head is back in the right place. I did 10 miles yesterday and that felt great. All in all, I don’t think I will die.

Interesting run out there Ben. Not sure how I would feel about running in the heat with a mask on. But if everyone else is doing it, I think the right thing is to wear it.
As far as motivation with no races -- I had that experience last spring when all the races were canceled. Also in Utah we generally don't have races from Dec 1 about early March unless you are willing to travel to warmer climates (and I wasn't willing to travel in early 2021). I really prepped myself and dedicated to training hard. It was nice to be able to focus on training rather than having to taper for the weekend's 5K / 10K. I did find a website with free and ranked virtual races which I used as well (Rock 'n Roll Virtual Running Club). I owe them a debt of gratitude for keeping me in the game.
I like to see you focus on running. I don't mind the travelogues and would watch them but I am definitely here to learn from your training and get motivated. I enjoy your work no matter what it is though. I can relate to how hot it is there. I actually prefer colder weather for running and suffer through the summers here where day time temps reach about 95 - 101F.
    How is the driving there?

Curious, do virtual races not inspire you in any way? I know it's not the same as a live race, but in the absence of those, I found the virtual ones a goal to work towards. Unlike you, though, I don't race a race in order to win anything, where I think you both are at the level of being able to complete for age group awareds. I can see that's added incentive that you don't get from a virtual race. Even my races are just runs (with a time/pace goal).

Re: having an event to focus on - I ran the Brighton marathon, crashing and burning in the 2nd half. It's my local major marathon and has been my main focus for the best part of a year. I don't want my overriding running memory of 2021 to be bad, so after I've recovered I need to find another race to do where I can get more positive vibes back 😁 A "normal" running year for me would be a variety of training runs for fun & fitness, then picking a few interesting looking races , probably at half marathon distance or shorter.

I think your subscribers love your videos because of who you guys are. You are both real, transparent, genuinely good people that truly care about others. You also happen to be really good at making high quality UA-cam videos. That being said, I think running is your bread and butter. You guys clearly love it and so do your followers. Running is the canvas or the instrument that you use to create the excellent content. I say more training, more races, more gear, more tutorials, etc. But I also say more of Ben, Mary, and Winnie within that framework. I'm not sure how the algorithms work. Would the nature of our comments help with your videos coming up more often as recommended videos? Keywords maybe that we could use more? I have no clue. Just brainstorming.

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  3 роки тому +1

Yes you’re right Ira. I think running is what holds it all together and I want to get back to my roots of helping people more explicitly (like training plans etc) so I’m doing a 9 week training plan for 10k and HM for people to follow along, copy the structure, learn how we do it. Hopefully that will help a few people 😊👍🏻

Great to see you run my regular loop, and to see my apartment in your vid! Benjakiti is a bit spartan at the moment as it recovers from 2 years of construction. There's actually a much more shaded section of Benjakiti next to the lake, a section we call "the new tree park", it's much nicer to run there once the sun is fully risen. They're currently building a forest park adjacent to Benjakiti which will be amazing when it opens next year, it has tree canopy walk ways, lagoons, waterfalls etc.

Great to see that you could get out and run with less exhaust fumes. Will you have much opportunity to run out in nature outside of the city? Or is it a major trip to get outside of the city?

Nice run. Must be a relief to drive on the same side of the road as over here.
