In this episode we're working on project bugford and swapping the transmission in my 1972 Volkswagen Beetle. Then we're taking it drag racing in the quarter mile to see what the time is.
How to remove your engine from Chris Vallone:
• Classic VW Beetle Bugs...
How to remove your transmission from BoostedVW:

Hahahahahahah you got me with the tea
7:21 lol seeing the bug going down the track, with the corvette exhaust had me laughing.
Yea man picturing the corvette sound that make it sound from the beetle it is hilarious on top of the tea
On my mom's parents were Scots, grandma would approve of tea time and race time together and wished you the best of luck!
The pinky was the topper that made me hit that subscribe button
Corvette immediately lost the moment he pulled out the tea. Damn, that was hilarious!
W00t! A Velocity Labs upload. Man I hope this show catches on and gets more views. The quality is much higher than a lot of the popular channels. (Watches up to 4:57). Wat? Math quiz?? Um, OK. I won't cheat.
(Flails for maybe 15 seconds). BAH, I'M GONNA CHEAT. According to the first hit on a Google search, it's in the ballpark of 25 seconds and 60 MPH, but that's without any adjustment for altitude. That kinda matches up with my best guess during the flail time, because the only thing I could come up with is that the presenter said he wants to hit that general range, and he surely knows more than me, so it was my best guess.
Truth told, I simply don't know how to calculate drag times, even though I've been working on my project car for a few years now. Even so, I'm glad the video brought up the topic. I don't live near a drag track, but if I want to keep getting better at car stuff, it will probably help to know basic stuff like this.
Erik I wanted to let you know that if you look on UA-cam you can find some videos on how to widen your fenders on your Bugford so that they stay of metal not fiberglass like the hood. sincerely, Robert
Fiberglass is lighter, better for drag racing
I did removable rear myself but uses a fine cutting wheel between spot weld seam fast and clean...only drilled one spot weld per side and than opened seam with hammer and cold chisel...a dremel tool (I actually have a Foredom but I just lucky that way)with cutting wheel for a few but most with grinder and fine wheel
Ah, the corvette doing the old burn out on street tires, prolly lo pros at that. Good work Randy McGenius.
this is my cup of tea
Yessss!
Old VW with Subie engine = Best Combination!
That's a really unsafe thing to do at the drag strip. You may not care about your safety but I'm sure your other fellow drivers do!
basically 0-60 in 21 sec. but man bugs are just lovely.
I gave up on VW's when I had taken my pop top van engine out 3 times. Thought I had it all taken care of then the carb fell apart and gas spilled out all over the engine. Although I want another one now. ;) With a sube engine.
Bug motors are high maintenance, that's for sure! Hopefully I'll be pulling the Legacy engine this weekend :D
Such a fun video. Thanks for posting this.
22.45 at 64 mph. ✌
The moths are killing me. My sides!
lmao the tea, great video
haha thanks! :D
Yea exactly that was brilliant !
I remember that Iron Maiden shirt. I only thought they sold it at the Chicago show for their '08 somewhere back in time tour. The June 11th massacre or something? I was too young and lacked in funds to buy it at the time unfortunately, but it was an amazing show. Anyway great video as always, and I am looking forward to more turbo madness!
I was at that show! :D And every other Maiden Chicago show since (it's one of my favorite cities to visit). They sold it online afterwards as well but without the tour dates on the back.
Nice! I saw them in April at the United center. They still kick so much ass! I can only hope I have that much energy when I'm their age lol.
i cannot wait to see your subaru swap.... I'm super interested in seeing how it goes.
Tea was nice touch!
hahaha the tea was great! I was about to be like oh yea good time to be distracted but of course it's a bug so their is plenty of time.... keep 'em coming!
Now you know how many cups of tea you can drink while you reach 60 mph =D
got a good laugh at the tea. love your videos keep them coming.
Cool vid
My best guess? I have no frame of reference for drag times at all, so I'lol say that it runs a 23.45s/67mph pass (see what I did there?).
Got off the line quicker, but slower at the top end.
The corvette sounds at the bug speeds down the track though 😂
Love your videos!!! I had no idea you're in Colorado. That's awesome. I'm up in NoCo.
The tea was great!
DO NOT use urethane engine / transaxle mounts unless you’re building a track only car. Use quality rubber! The added noise and vibration make for a horrible driving experience! Use a rubber isolated traction bar and frame horn supports. That will be good enough for a 12 sec car
just found your channel. great stuff man, love the 1g you have. looks so damn clean!
23.50 @ 73mph
luv the tea bit
love your stuff keep it up
Creative tea
et 28 seconds at 82mph!...at 5:25 on the left a yellow colt, reminds me of Jafromobile's colt project.
wow a lot faster a time then I thought lol, wonder what warmed up tires would have run...likely a tad better.
Drag racing a goddamn beetle with a replica Cord snout, no less.....are you goddamn kidding me???? Hey-zeus Christ, give me a fuckin' break already!
24.2 @ 69mph.... dang I was way off.
nice one please tell me how to by parts for 1300cc 1971 vw bag
How much hp will a beetle transaxle take? Is there a stronger bug transmission? What do really high hp cars do?
Which trans-axle sequential gearbox Best for Street 1200HP 3300 pounds of weight mid engine project car ???
Please someone gives me an answer thank you ☝️☝️☝️
DUDE FUNNY CLIP...YOU NEED A V-DUB SHOW......OH YEAH....GOING SURFIN MAN
Guess: 24.64 @ 69 mph
Did you do the bug ej22t conversion yet???
I wish! I'm just starting to pull the motor out of the Subaru this week.
Velocity Labs sweet! Please make a video of that too! Doing the conversion too. Gotta sell my air cooled motor first
HAhahahaha! Great video. Great editing. The tea had me dying laughing! :-)
When are you doing more with the bug?
23 sec is what my stock bug ran at bandimer
Make more videos of the DSM!!!
Already working on 'em, got a bunch of DSM stuff coming :D
That black Corvette beats you.
swing axle bugs are more of a pain to swap transaxles than irs
omfg hahaha the tea....dead!
got yourself a new sub.
Hi John here from the Philippines. Is it possible to do an EJ swap on a 2002 bug?
why have I just found you.
@VelocityLabs hey ive got a question for you. I have a boost controller at 14 psi, and my turbo's waste gate is at 7 psi. when I floor it it will build up to 14, hit it, and then trail down to about 7. do I have to upgrade my waste gate to hold 14 consistently?
Could be that, could be the turbo too. If you have a smaller turbo (13g, 14b, td04, etc) they typically fall out of their efficiency range at higher rpms, so the boost will fall off. Although I think the most likely candidate is a boost leak, I'd do a boost leak test to 20psi and go from there. Good luck!
Thats not bad for a stock engine while drinking a tea
ej207 from a jdm subaru sti....g50 porsche 911 transaxle....wind those torsion bars tight...throw fatest tires you can fit under its ass....make a wheelie bar...go run high 9s..low 10s in the 1/4th....
turbo install?
You remind of briansmobile1 but with Fabio hair lol
Ha, that's perfect! I need that to be a t-shirt. "I'm like briansmobile1 but with Fabio hair."
Velocity Labs I'd buy that t-shirt! haha
Met Brian at the Peterson Cruise In before SEMA; really smart guy and SUPER nice!
What transmission is it and what did it come off of?
21.05 @ 67mph !

Wow, I did not think I was going to get it lol. (.87 seconds off I call that a victory) and I swear I did not cheat.
