The Cologne Tank Duel

- In the closing chapters of the war the German fortress city of Cologne needed to be taken. Ordered to get to the Rhine, Eagle 7 a brand new Pershing tank, went up against the might of the German Panther. Adam Makos wrote the excellent book Spearhead which details the war from the view of the crew of Eagle 7, and it's gunner, Clarence Smoyer.

Eagle 7 didn't have stars on the hull, and the gun was aimed at the Panther, so Bartelborth probably couldn't see the stars on the sides of the turret. It’s refreshing to hear a Russian say this. More often Russians say the Western Allies waited too long, and didn’t contribute much. And did it for selfish reasons, etc. The West contributed what they could. Yes I know the Soviets made the largest sacrifice by far, but the West contributed and earned a mention.
Приятно слышать это от россиянина. Россияне чаще говорят, что западные союзники слишком долго ждали и не внесли большого вклада. И сделали это из корыстных соображений и т. д. Запад внес, что мог.
