To Rick's annoyance at the Bard: In the old '78 Advanced D&D rules, you could not start off as a Bard at 1st level -- you had to plane for it due to all the restrictions, hope you ability rolls are high, jump between two basic classes to high level (10 or more), and switch again to become a Bard. Mind you, most players "retire" their character somewhere at the high-levels as their class loose a lot of steam, but this is were old-school Bards really start to shine. They were OP as fuck, could satisfy gods and monsters in the sheets, but a motherfucker had to earn that shit!
