Good question. We have to remember two, distinct things: 1) free will 2) karma The suffering of someone else may be his or her karma. But our reaction, our attitude, our actions vis-à-vis that person is not our karma; it's our choice, our free will. We have a duty to be compassionate, regardless of whether the 'other' is suffering from his or her unavoidable karma. Right?
