I'm already in love with Chapel. Her cheeky and flirtatious sense of humor is combined with evident humanity. Can't wait to see her in a feature episode. And I'm glad Uhura noted that Chapel is flirting with Spock. In my experience, there is always the girl who likes to flirt with the smart nerdy guy. Mostly she is not being mean; it's because she enjoys being the pursuer instead of the pursued. The shy guy type gives her the freedom to be herself.

I guess they are going to expand her crush on Spock as implied in TOS. Interesting, the porn parody version of TOS actually brought it out. If you forgot that it is a porn movie, it is pretty good. Ironically, the producer is a TOS fan. Funny, they made fun of the Kirk character saying he needs to have sex in each episode since it is in his contract.

What I really like about Pike's character arc dealing with an accepting his fate, and knowing he will save the lives of those future cadets, makes it even more heartbreaking when it inevitably happens and why in TOS, Spock knowing Pike's fate as well, will do everything including risking his Starfleet career and betraying Kirk, to help a crippled Pike return to the Talosian planet to live his final days in happiness which he definitely earned

Are we in the prime universe, or are we in Kurtzman's universe. It may not happen as expected. The showrunner already said they won't always follow Canon. Pike could leave the Enterprise for his own reasons without getting hurt/crippled, and James Kirk could take over. Also remember the dozens of time travel episodes in every Trek series, who says the future cannot be altered. For example in the final series episode of Voyager, an aged Janeway travels back to change history and how the fate of Voyager was supposed to happen in the first place where there outcome was far worse, but now was saved.

That's absolutely brilliant and I don't doubt that part of the identity of Sam Kirk was based on that character. The mustache of course also comes from the original Sam Kirk played by William Shatner, but you're completely correct that his depiction must also be based on guy in Galaxy Quest. Great episode. This almost feels like a prequel season in comparison to some of the other shows' first seasons.
La'an and Chapel continue to be my favorites, but everyone did a pretty good good here. I'm just waiting for La'an to say "I'm Batman." Also, it kind of reminds me of Discovery season 4, particularly the premiere.

so fair it is decent, gotta give it a few more episodes to cement those good vibes and maybe a second season that continues like this to see if standards drop... I guess it is what people want to see, problem is that the viewing audience aren't particularly smart people themselves living in a declining (western) society and the average citizen finds amusement in the most retarded things... it just cements the idea of people in western societies accepting anything and that if humanity has a bright future it is from the people living in non-western societies and perhaps most of Eastern Europe, where people are 'smarter' (and IQ does not reflect how smart a person is, adn even then, places like Asia like China etc have higher average IQs etc). Cue the shills and haters, give it less than 2 decades and mabye less than 1 and we'll soon see.
Im not claiming to be super smart, but I think what I have noticed is the truth imho and a common observation amongst people who are of colour, and perhaps a few 'c@aucasian' people too. But for most people, they will enjoy this show, I guess that's what bothers me, they will settle for the mediocre and hence cause continuing societal decline and demise. The show isn't particularly innovative or smart, its OK, like a McDonalds that tastes real good but isn't a healthy meal.

The people who worshipped it were called “children of the comet”
They called what they did an away mission
One of the “worshipers” if you will, that would eventually kill themselves was one Thomas Alva Nichols, brother of Nichelle Nichols, the original actress to portray Uhura.

Lovely episode, I really enjoyed it. Felt a bit like Discovery’s season 4 finale. They communicated with an alien entity in a similar fashion, instead of sound it was light patterns I believe. Still, beautifully done, I thought the musical element was absolutely beautiful. I am a singer, so it really resonated with me. I have always believed that music is a universal language. It’s so nice to observe Star Trek with wonderful graphics. 80’s TNG, you had to use your imagination and the 60’s, fagetaboutit, what graphics lol. I loved the aliens on the planet, the beautiful comet entity, the views of the Enterprise, even the space monks looked cool. I’m loving SNW, I hope it continues this way.

I respect Discovery and Picard fans. I dislike it for many reasons, the way Burnham's character is written in DSC is one of them (although i think the actress is good from other shows). But man, SNW is off to a great start. I dare say that in just two episodes the chemestry between the crew is more developed than many of older Trek which took seasons to achieve that. Sure, less episodes, so they have to move faster. But it's impressive nonetheless, especially because they have to move fast AND make it feel natural.

Yes the only problem with that is that if it is true then Spock in the original series would have known it and would not have had to have stayed up awake for days trying to figure it out. He would have drawn from his experience and he and Uhura would have recognized the situation.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but in TOS: The Paradise Syndrome, the Obelisk was operated by what Spock calls musical notes. It was to protect the planet from wayward asteroids. In SNW, the comet helps to protect planets, too. I wonder if the civilization producing both is the same and uses the same musical language. Both protect early, indigenous peoples.

I'm really enjoying this series and because I didn't know the background I was debating whether to watch Star Trek Discovery or not. I saw some of the first season and found it unwatchable and many people warned me against trying to get into it because it was not a very good program in anyway. However I wanted to watch the entire second season so I can understand this entire Pike backstory , or at least the pike backstory that doesn't come from the Cage, which I know quite well and have known quite well for 50 years. So I went into Star Trek Discovery season 2 with no knowledge and no expectations except negative ones, and I have to say I'm very much enjoying the entire season. The whole idea of Michael's mother I think is brilliant and sensitive and reminds me of Jake Sisko trying to search for his father in time. I think at least season 2 is very good and I don't know about the other seasons and maybe they're good or not so good, but I'm certainly enjoying season 2 of Discovery and seeing the Adventures of Captain Pike before SNW.
Update: then I tried season 3 of Discovery and after the initial excitement of their Landing in the future on an alien planet, everything seemed to go down the drain as a disaster in terms of narrative and writing and plot and Science and Sensibility and everything so I gave up around episode 2 or 3 of season 3 of Star Trek Discovery, but I am glad I watched The Pike episodes in season 2 and I think that Michael Burnham character was at her absolute best in season 2.

Regarding fate, perhaps you can also quote Picard in final Season 2 episode that he "refuses to accept any future (or fate) he does not have a hand in." which was near end of episode. Pike should live by this also. Knowing one possible outcome of time, he might develop a new plan and still save everyone and himself. Captains should not give up without a fight on changing fate!
Love the characters on SNW including Ortega and Uhura, however not a fan of Ortega's hair style, perhaps that might change over time, I can live with it though. Regardless it is a great cast! Also remember the dozens of time travel episodes in every Trek series which changed things (including Picard Season 2), who says the future cannot be altered.

I think Sam Kirk's impulsive action was a reference to the Kirk 'way' of doing things, much like his brother James T. However, in today's more 'enlightened' world (2022 vs. 1966), this type of 'acting-before-thinking' behaviour is frowned upon. Also, the shot of Sam Kirk laid out was a premonition of his death scene in 'Operation Annihilate'.

      @user-xu4ow3bu6f 2 роки тому

Indeed it was. Really good analysis. And that's the kind of Easter egg that makes a lot of sense in a serious like this.
Star Trek Picard had plenty of Easter eggs but as someone said on these pages, if the entire thing is a rotten egg we can't appreciate those Easter egg references.
When you earn the right to make those kinds of canonical illusions, then you've done a good job with narrative art.
The show so far is really excellent. Watching Star Trek Picard is a terrible chore because of a complete incoherence of the narrative and the poor quality of the writing and the overt reductive virtue signaling.
This program winds up being vital and engaging and current and philosophically and socially meaningful without being reductive and therefore it is the restoration of the original Spirit of Star Trek.
