    The Witcher Season 3 will be Henry Cavill's last for Netflix, but why? We now have a Witcher actress saying Henry Cavill leaving wont affect The Witcher much because the show is about so much more than The Witcher. It really doesn't seem like Henry Cavill was valued enough on the set, or worse, was seen as getting in the way. While he was trying to improve the show by putting in more of the source material, if you want to change the source material, you're simply causing trouble. So as we get news that we will get a Season 4 AND Season 5 on Netflix, do you think The Witcher can survive without Henry Cavill? How much will it change without him trying to correct their scenes from the books? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

      Have you been on vacation? Missed you!
      Btw, ‘an IP without its soul’, is beyond accurate. The showrunners are not human, hence their inability to relate, even to the death of faithful companions like Roach. Strange Days Indeed.

      It is basicly the ESSENCE of the Witcher itself.
      The whole idea about "killing monsters." But what defines "monster"? The fact other witchers like Vesimir care and have feelings. But Geralt especially goes out of his way to help despite being largely feared or hated but tolerated for his "use".
      Yet he still does good for an ungrateful world who ultimately sees him as yet another beast to put down last when he killed all the others.
      Also the fact he names every horse roach is also extremely deep. Roach is his one constant companion wich is with him during the lonely life of a witcher. He loves, protects and does what he can for each roach. Including mourning. And the reuse of the name is basicly a sweet self lie to always have Roach with him, no matter where he goes.

    The Roach scene is a glaring example none of the writers or showrunners ever even opened the books (or even the games). Anyone who knows anything about The Witcher story knows Roach is not "just a horse". Roach (named after the fish, by the way, NOT the insect) is Geralt's eternal companion, basically the only one that's always been there for him, through mud and snow and blood and tears, one who never hated him, never mocked him, undermined him, abused him, etc. An animal that has been a better companion to him than other humanoids. Roach is the one constant in Geralt's life, one he can always count on, which cannot be said about his other acquaintances. This is why all of Geralt's horses have been called Roach. It's not a name, it's a title, something that has deep meaning for Geralt.
    The fact an entire showrunning team can work on someone else's legacy without even having the FAINTEST fucking idea (or care) about the source material is simply mindblowing. How can this even happen?!

    • @_edijane_
      @_edijane_ Рік тому +11

      @Playbahnosh Рік тому +80

      @@_edijane_ Read. Roach is not just a name, it's a sort of title bestowed upon Geralt's horses. To him Roach is not just a horse, they're his noble companion, one who he can always count on. Geralt being a witcher, he's been an outcast all his life, being shunned and hated by people everywhere he went. The only one who he could count on for support, without any judgment, hatred or animosity, was Roach. Think of Roach as a long line of noble creatures Geralt served with, each adding their own to the reverence of the name.

      Anyone who've ever worked with horses know, that they're not "just a means of transport". Sure, horses can be broken in or raised from foal to be saddle horses, and they will take you from A to B, but even so, horse riding is the ONLY sport where the "sporting equipment" is a living being. Horses have personalities, they learn, adapt, form connections with their riders and they can be really moody. They can be friendly, playful, they do have a sense of humor and a sense of duty (read up on warhorses), but they are big, powerful creatures and you can only ride them if THEY decide they'll let you. If you irk them, they can become unruly and stop doing what you tell em, and they will even buck you if you piss them off enough. But if you treat them well and they also like you, a horse will go through fire and flames for you (literally if necessary)

      @mnomadvfx Рік тому +6

      It's no accident that this attitude prevailed though.
      Clearly a certain kind of culture has prevailed in Hollywood in the wake of metoo.
      A culture of preferential treatment for women in the business regardless of experience or talent, and that they will never be called to task when their output falls short of the audiences expectations.
      I don't say this because I think women cannot write good scripts - because I do think that they are plenty capable there, but I don't believe that having tits and a vagina automatically makes them capable for writing anymore than I believe that having a penis does for men to do the same.
      Unless Hollywood returns to favoring merit of creative talent/output over identity politics they are just going to destroy one franchise after another and leave them unadaptable for years due to the well being poisoned, just as it has been for Wheel of Time already.
      Also trying desperately to hammer female protagonists into typically male audience driven genres and franchises is going to go down as well as profits for many female group sports vs mens.
      In the end it will drive away the built in audience while gaining a minimal following of the new target audience, thus leaving those IPs unprofitable and also poisoning the well for future adaptations.
      My guess is that they have taken the dominant viewership statistics of single mother homes and stay at home mothers to be their greatest potential audience and just tried to endlessly change everything to target them, regardless of how well such a genre is likely to attract such an audience.

    Alik Sakharov was a exclusive producer on the show for season 1, he directed the Pilot
    BUT he left because of creative differences with Lauren's version....this is what he had to say:
    “You see, in my perception, Eastern-European literature has a completely different pace. It is no coincidence that Andrzej Sapkowski has so many storylines and characters. The producers set the task of setting the adaptation at an action pace and filling it with colorful special effects. That was their vision. My vision was very different and I tried to convey it to them, giving my arguments. Unfortunately, I was not considered convincing enough, so I decided to leave the project.”
    And something about Henry Cavill:
    “Glad to hear it. By the way, Henry Cavill is the best thing in The Witcher, in my opinion. He absolutely nailed the role. Moreover, he is a very flexible actor who is able to listen and learn. I sincerely hope that he has many interesting and good projects ahead.”
    And hes NOT the only person who left. Tim Aslam the Costume designer for season 1 left, Sonya who made the beautiful soundtrack for s1 left, some actors left, a writer left, now Henry left.
    s1 was made without the appropriate preparation and without time to get things right. Tim Alan, the costume designer, didn't know who he was designing for nor the concept in which the clothes were worn. Henry's wig for Geralt wasnt ready....his own stylist had to work on it day and night to make it look more natural! For the Blaviken fight reshoot they had one day, henry brought in Wolfgang Stegemann and they worked on a fight choreography together, henry learned the whole fight in 2 hours!!! If that's not a father, I don't know what is. In that aspect, the show having the two characters grow closer - coupled with just how much attention Ciri gets as the books go on - is actually good adherence to the source material.

    Funny thing, the first season did actually pretty good job in setting all the pieces together for further progress. Sure not telling story in chronological order was confusing, but they managed to set pieces for the future well, and making Geralt (as author said "side character in his own story") one of three main protagonists made alot of sense. Unless you only played games, and know nothing about books. The books were about this weird family of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer trying to live their life in weird circumstances. You have to build these characters for watchers to care. Sure, narration in books mostly follows Geralt (in later books moving to have significant parts focused on Ciri), but the split in first season makes alot of sense imo.
    Show had their issues, show runner is huge problem, and I agree with general video, that show runner sux. So the showrunners have truly outed themselves as the main reason Cavill left, and their biggest criticism of him seems to be that he was so into the stories, the games and the general mythos of The Witcher, that he would hold up filming to make sure that what got to the screen was as close to the source material as possible... And they thought this was a terrible thing...
    And they are trying to hype up the new season with a new lead, who presumably *won't* create these 'problems'. This show is heading for Blood Origin levels of garbage at lightspeed, which is what they wanted to do with this franchise all along. The only reason people didn't get Blood Origin from the very first episode was Henry Cavill.

    I think Breaking Bad did this “there are no villains” thing to us. The difference is that Walter (and everyone else) has a clear character arc, and these writers simply do not possess the intelligence & life experience to write complex characters who possess conflicting goals (ex, Walt wants to provide for his family, he knows meth is illegal, but he has limited time to make a lot of money, however his goals evolve and he eventually becomes a monster). The writers simply do not have the life experience of being torn between conflicting values needed in order to write complex and compelling characters, so we get “Woman good, white man bad”.

As an audience we can understand and sympathize with the reason that Walter does what he does, maybe even admit we might go down a similiar path if it were us, but we understand that his reasons do not serve as a moral justification for his actions and that he's still a bad person. In their minds though, having a good reason for why you do something makes it instantly ok to do it. It's a very selfish and dangerous line of thinking.

      That is because the secret is that all of the final plot mcguffins that the public hate are actually his true "twist". Remember, D & B only got permission to be showrunners because they actually predicted the final planned ending when talking to Martin. D & B clearly misunderstood what the audience liked about the series, but they actually wrote the final 2 seasons with the level of story telling that Martin has planned for the end. The Night King coming South and getting into a single battle before dying to Mary "Arya" Sue is actually planned. The dragons barely being used in battles that don't matter before effectively being one-shot is planned. Bran becoming the King on the Iron Throne even though he has zero claim, which is supposed to be the super big twist(that no one really wanted) is planned. George R R Martin is good at writing rambling in-depth stories, but has no writing skill when it comes to actually bringing story elements to satisfying conclusions. There's a reason why all of the wars are basically completely off-screened.

      Agree, his planned ASOIAF ending is woeful. And I expect that's the real reason he's not bothered to finish writing his magnum opus - he knows the ending is terrible and will be loathed by all his readers. I've read a lot of GRRM's short stories (they're genuinely excellent), but he does love a 'twist' type ending. That's cute - and intellectually pleasing to the reader - in a 5000 word short story or a novella. Less so in a fantasy epic that people have invested decades of their lives to finish reading. His saga epic has outgrown his original ending, and he's too arrogant to seek external help or allow someone else to finish it for him. Hence all his twatting round with HotD, the wokewashed GoT prequel spin-off that no one asked for or wanted. But hey, I guess it was still miles better than anything Netflix has shat out, especially that ghastly Witcher knock-off...
