      An animated Silmarillion adaptation would be amazing, and I think it could actually do justice to the epic scope and scale of the mythos in a way live action couldn't. Would be amazing to see a well-done series in a beautiful art style like this one, or even an anthology with different studios adapting different parts of the story with their own artistic style and visual approach.

    So, you all might not know this, but the animated movie The Hobbit by Rankin/Bass from 1977 was in fact already an "anime" movie. Many of the artists who worked for Japanese studio who created this film went on to form Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki's world famous animated movie house. The late 70s anime style was already pretty close to the 80s.

    • @jgkitarel
      @jgkitarel Рік тому

      @@rustmonster1e You have to remember that it was not uncommon for Western animated films and shows to be done in Japan back then if they were done by studios not named Warner and Disney, who basically had a lock on the Animation Studio landscape back then. Most animated films and shows not done by either were actually done by Japanese studios, as the studios would be cheaper, but the other company paid better than what they could get from their own networks.
      Miyazaki's dislike is more due to the fact that his works were meant to draw on Japanese folklore and such, and didn't want the comparisons. But one needs to keep in mind that a lot of Ghibli's style was developed from doing Western works, as well as using older manga and anime designs, specifically Osamu Tezuka's works, which are very clearly influenced by Early 20th Century Western Animation, specifically Warner's earlier works.

    Mindblowing stuff! I like all of the random scenery shots. A lot of pages in the books are dedicated to just describing how the natural world of The Lord of the Rings looks, and while New Zealand has some great locations; it doesn't quite match Tolkien's vision, imo. But here, the AI effortlessly generates wonderfully magical looking sceneries. I think I can see some of the source materials' styles and aesthetics, like Vampire Hunter D. Always loved those animes. I need this technology to evolve, so that actual moving images can be produced, using it. But again: amazing images, and I also like your choice of music; really creates a kind of eerie, epic atmosphere.

      To be fair and honest, anime didn't develop into its distinct style as everyone would know it as until the 90s. It began sooner, but Anime studios were still drawing heavy inspiration from Western studios due to how Osamu Tezuka, the Grandfather of Anime, based his style on older Western Animation. Japanese anime started with clear Western influences and developed its own style over the decades. And now, the roles are more reversed, with anime's design being a clear influencer of Western animation.

  • @jgkitarel
    @jgkitarel Рік тому +9

    Very well done. And while it isn't fully like an 80s anime, it shouldn't be an exact copy of the methodology either. This gives it its own air, which any animation studio would want. Yes, design inspirations tend to be somewhat standard, which is how you can tell anime these days, or at least what was inspired by anime. But anime didn't fully come into its own current design standard until the 90s. Anime studios actually did a lot of work for Western Studios, which is how anime designs up until the 90s actually looked a lot more similar to Western designs. Oh, they had their own factors that only appeared in Anime for Japanese audiences, but the work for Western Studios kept a number of anime studios afloat while they built their own names.
    And anime was originally inspired by Western animation to begin with. Granted, we're talking about Western animation from before the 1950s, which has its own style. And anyone who has seen things done by Osamu Tezuka, who basically founded the anime industry, can tell where he originally drew his influences for his style.

Perhaps because the latter ones I criticize are following a pattern and is being cohesive. But Idk, I feel that they should be more terrifying. The rest are awesome, it's like Studio Ghibli but they hired a new team who are influenced by the charm and details of the studio, but took them in their own style.
    In the end, it's an AI and was definitely just using previous iterations and was making them look all cohesive, like they do belong to one art style

    Was gonna point out the inconsistencies before I saw it was made by AI. They’re all pretty cool just the same, but here they are:
    -Gandalf and Saruman should have regular ears as they were sent to middle earth in the form of aged men.
    -Nazgûl should not have eyes as they are wraiths and so their bodies are invisible in “our” world, like when Frodo puts on the ring (which is why he can then see their bodies).
    -Peregrin Took, along with the other Tooks and most hobbits are blonde. Frodo is among the few with dark hair.
    -I wouldn’t call Sauron fair here, but he is cursed to basically always appear ugly because he previously used his fair form to deceive the elves. That’s why he’s clad in armor.
    -Arwen should be obvious
    Again though these were all cool to look at I bet it would make for a great series.

    I am no Anime fan but I really like this take on Lord of the Rings. I especially love the Nazgul, different but awesome.

    OMG Yes. This looks amazing. My dream is someone will come to their senses and make a legit adaption to all then books in animation. None of this Amazon crap they got out their now. GReat job.

      Sauron was known to be super handsome in the ancient times but lost his good looks (Fall of Numenor) and then his body altogether (War of the Last Alliance) and has since been the embodiment of seething.
      So this might very well be accurate portrayal. Anime makers clearly just decided to keep him hot because why not.

    I always have said only the people who do the genuine,raw,hard-edged Anime could ever really capture what Tolkien actually wrote in The Silmarillion.Everyone else will be too timid and prissy.I like the Sauron designs here.I can see him appearing as a mockery of an Elf when he was still in his prime,working with Morgoth.

    Some of these are close. As someone who grew up watching manga in the 80's I can tell you these aren't nearly dark, gritty, offensive, dirty and graphic enough to be 80's anime 😂
