I just wanted to share my experience with the Nube' system. My daughter and I traveled Japan this summer and were lucky enough to get hold of the Nube', both hammocks, the easy slings and carabiners for our 49 day trek across beautiful Japan (during the rainy season). We hung hambunk style (two hammocks under one tarp system) under the Nube' for 41 of those nights, and loved every minute of it! It took a bit to figure out how to hang both hammocks and the luggage rack into the screened in area, but by week two we had dialed in the hang of all three hammocks and we never got wet (except while hiking). The ease and light weight of the easy slings and the construction of the Nube' is of amazing materials and construction. I thought I may have been jealous of tourist that would be sleeping in beautiful hotels, but the opposite was true, we hated going indoors, where we got poor sleep, cost money , time, and took us away from the people and the country we were there to see. Love, love, love this system! When you can get your hands on one do!
Here is my constructive review: Watch all the videos! I missed a couple. I used it 4x's before I attached the gear storage. My fault. Now I see that they post a comment to watch six videos. Make sure you do that. This is a single wall system which equals a lot of condensation. If they make a liner for it in the future, I will buy it. I live in a rain forest but it snows in the winter. I slept in this system for weeks. No temp higher then 50F. You will get wet from the condensation. But not soaked. You "rub" up against the inside of the Nube while being around it and it has condensation on it. I like that you put the shelter, the Nube, up FIRST. So your hammock and sleeping gear stay dry. That is a huge bonus as most systems, whether it be a hammock or tent, has you adding the rain fly after your main shelter is set up. As for the "winter barrier" , it is misleading to a guy who lives in temps that hit moderate cold temps: -5 to -10F at the lowest. The winter barrier is good to about 30F. It is NOT insulated, and they never said it was, but i just assumed it was, my bad. Anything below freezing, you need an under quilt (if you can afford it). I used my military sleeping pad and a wool blanket and my -50F military bag and I was solid down to the single digits. Overall: I dig this setup! But it took a while of using it to get it to work for me. But i am new to this. Somebody who hammock camps will skip all my mistakes. And I dig that my purchase helped provide clean water to those in need. How many companies do that?
This looks like a great piece of kit. My only suggestion is a tension system on the hammock like the ENO. This allows you to stake anywhere and adjust the tension at the tarp.
@ Supah Nunjah to be completely honest with you, the first set up of the Nubé can be a bit time consuming because we have 6 videos that we suggest you follow along with while you give it your first go. This way you can avoid potential damage that can occur if not set up properly. After that, it is pretty self explanatory and set up times get quicker and quicker as you set up and take down a couple times. I'd say total set up time is about 5 - 7 minutes.
Just finally pulled the trigger on this nube. I have great hammocks and a very nice Nemo tent. But just get tired of uneven ground and sliding off my sleeping pad. I do massive camping and adventure riding all over the place. I'm a member of one of the largest dual sport/ adventure motorcycle club in the country. So a review video will be made once it comes in the mail. No more sliding off my sleeping pad at night. I think I will eventually add the ninox hammock soon.
I just watched every video on your channel. Simply brilliant product designs, and a wonderful social ethos. I hope you guys have great success in all your endeavors. Yet I have to ask a question that doesn't need an answer - why would somebody give any of these videos a thumbs down?
out of my price range, but this look like the best designed hammock system i have ever come across. I have not seen any hammock system that is completely insect proof and ant the same time keep you dry in the rain.
I hope to get one of these. It's just not in the budget at the moment :( A cheaper system will have to suffice until I can afford this wonderful invention! I plan on obtaining the Adventura combo pack. I love what you guys do and stand for!
You will have to excuses me as I am not an expert at you tube. However I have several questions regarding your hammock... What are your top 5 selling points? If I store my bag under the hammock how can I fit an external sleeping bag under the hammock to keep me warm on really cold nights so it does not get compressed and become inefficient? It does not appear to come in camo colour??? Is the tarp fixed as shown and if so do I need a second tarp on top to cover strong winds and bad weather as well as being able to enjoy reasonably good weather when I can enjoy the view/vista from one side which is the joy of a hammock? I am not digging the one little tarp for sunny days idea. I need more info on how it works in all four seasons and why it would be better (unique selling points over the others) all year round? I am not getting it from your marketing?
Your advertising is misleading. I have several hammocks from name brand manufactures and they have bug protection , weather protection and a nice dry spot for my gear , either under the hammock or inside with me. I have used them in some rain storms that were close to a class1 hurricane ( 75 mph winds ) and stayed nice and dry. Your idea is nice and you have combined the better parts of several manufactures. It is only a shelter not the hammock which is purchased separately or you have you own to use with it.
Sorry, another thing, it does not appear that you can sleep in a slightly side ways angle for a flatter position? And another thing is there a storage shelf or anything???
I've been convinced to sell off my Eno set up, I really like your system as well as your cause.! The only question I have, does the insect sheild zip to itself so the hammock & insect shield can be set up without the Nubé fly?
Thanks so much Reverend Jon The Nubé is a 3-in-1 system that does not come apart. It is more like a complete hammock tent that offers roomy protection with no need to take it apart. You can, however, roll up the Gear Stash and Insect Shield, and clip them back to use the Nubé for the Rain Protection only if you'd like.
+Harrison Blackwood This thing is a fortress, we tested it in the monsoon seasons of Nicaragua and Honduras. Sideways rain is not a problem, the wings can be adjusted down to provide more protection. Specs are on our site: www.sierramadreresearch.com/buy-gear/nube
Just saw you guys on shark tank. Good for you for getting up on there. Lost interest on your website after 5 minutes of looking for what everything looks like folded up. Looks cool set up.... But what about in storage?
Thanks Big Box Wrench! We hope you had a chance to take a look at our UA-cam videos, we do try to make sure and start from their compression sack. If you have further questions about their compression sacks please don't hesitate to email us at customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com Thanks again!!
I love the all in one nature but would like to see the tarp be able to enclose the system more, down the the floor if needed. Especially helpful for winter camping/sideways rain
Ray - you're so right! That's why we created this 👉🏼 sierramadreresearch.com/collections/winter-barriers/products/nube-winter-barrier If you have any other feedback or questions please let us know! (908) 444 6767 or customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com.
I started out a Sobo on AT with a guy who was using one of these. Spent a couple weeks with him so I got to take a good look at this in action. Quality was great but seemed over engineered to me. The wgt and bulk of the system just wasn't feasible to me - we were on a LDH! Even my Hennessey was half the wgt. He ended up doing the whole thing with it though.
I do love your product but let just say for thought you go with a ENO double hammock? Would it fit? I only ask being a 6'4" guy. Another question on your site it says that you are filling orders for July - Sept in October. Why the long wait time?
Does this fit 11 foot hammocks/or 110.88" ridgeline? Also, if you were to order the winter barrier, does it still come with the bug screen? I take it you unzip the bug screen and then zip on the winter barrier, correct? Thanks.
Yes this product was made for our Pares Hammock which is ~11 ft in length. The Winter Barrier is an add on accessory, it fits on the outside of the Insect Shield. The Insect Shield is not removable, however, you can roll it up if you would like to use the Nubé as an open shelter. Let us know if you have anymore questions!
Thanks for the input. This is quite out of my price range currently, but I love the design features that you've added in, it's so unique and you seem to address many issues we hammock campers have. It gives me something to possibly look into and work for in the future. (This is DivaB over on the hammock forums). My son and I usually hang in a triangle configuration under one tarp. From what I can tell, this tarp would not be made for that kind of hanging configuration right? Thanks again so much, its a beautiful tarp.
DivaBClub We designed it to work with what we call Hambunks when camping with a friend, or family member as seen here: www.smrgearme.com/combo-packages/hambunks
+jadekayak01 If no one else has an all in one, then it is new isn't it!? Best system I've ever owned, bought mine from their website. w w w . s m r . c a m p
Sierra Madre Research. ooh..ok then..i ask this due to 1 or 2 videos I've seen mentioned this being the only down fault on this hammock system.personly saw drops of water seeping threw the seems between the hammock & the mosqito netting.but thanks for the return reponce
@ George if you own a Nubé and are seeing any leaks please contact us at customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com and we will send you a tube of SilNet so that you can reseal! Pending your model it is possible that it would need to be resealed, but our newest model has seam tape applied from our factory and it is extremely robust. We saw the video from Shug and that he appeared to have some leaks but upon further investigation we discovered that it was condensation dripping from the ceiling. If you have seen another video showing this would you mind sharing it with us? We'd love to make sure we fix that problem! We are proud of the Nubé's ability to withstand harsh weather conditions and we stand by that as a company :)
Hey there! We have a good deal of videos to try and help with many questions, but also happy to answer any you have! Feel free to shoot us an email to customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com Thanks!
@Brandon the biggest difference is that the Stratos is a modular system - meaning the Fly and the Insect Shield are detachable and can be used separately. The Nubé is an all in one shelter. If you have more questions please feel free to contact us at customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com.
We absolutely LOVE this system and have even written a couple blog posts with diagrams of how to set the Nube and hambunks together that also allows for the use of the luggage compartment. Visit: worldgallivant.blogspot.com/2014/10/gear-nube-hammock-set-up-changes-we-made.html to read more about the adjustments we made and how much we love this product.
Hi Silvan! Its def possible - pending on how much you like to snuggle with the other person :). The Pares Hammock from SMr is tested to 1,000lbs so it can definitely hold the weight. Usually the comfort level goes down after a few hours, because somebody's arm falls asleep : ).
jimgam730 we have not personally tested the Clark Jungle hammock with the Nubé hammock shelter, however, it should work just fine. You won't need the tarp or the bug netting obviously. At 13' the Nubé is large enough to encompass up to 11.5' camping hammocks easily.
think I'm more interested in the price in £ now as watching the video the design is brilliant, it's 1 of the best hammock set ups I've seen however if you could suspend it high up in the trees without having to anchor to the ground that would be awesome :)
Lenny Isaac The Nubé is just the Hammock Shelter. We offer the Pares Hammock (www.smrgearme.com/buy-gear/pares ) and the xPlor Hammock (www.smrgearme.com/buy-gear/xplor) as great options to pair with your Nubé. Our hammocks are 100% Nylon with a high tread count and super tight threaded fabric, making them UV ray, water, and weather resistant, unlike most Nylon Tri Blend hammocks on the market. Our fabric takes longer to break down, is extremely durable, while feeling nicer on your skin. You can choose the Nubé alone since it is built to be compatible with other brand of camping hammocks, or you can choose to add on our hammocks.
Three hundred dollars is pretty steep, like ridiculously steep. When I can get a light/durable hammock for 50 bucks or less, a basic waterproof tarp from my garage or even the nylon ripstop version for 20 bucks and then tie some free hanging Paracord on my straps to act as water breaks so that's my hammock doesn't get wet. Ultimately I can buy every feature of this separately. A bug net, how about a sleeping bag to lay on for the cold, or a tight rope and d-ring to hang your bag and boot. This can probably all be under 200 bucks easily and that's with extra stuff. Not so sure how I feel about this item
Absolutely Cheyenne Sivak !!! We'd love to see Bear Grils use one! He'd be outofhismind impressed!! He is very expensive though ; ) We actually manufacture them at SMR ILLUMINATE, our own facility in Nicaragua. The Nubés are currently in production now with over 500 in use all over the world! We can't make them fast enough is the problem! However, we hope to be caught up with production by October! Thanks again for your excitement!
Is it me. or does it seem to hook extremely high to the trees? Ah, fuck it, this is no better protection than my Amok and it has a Way better hang. I turn, roll, sleep on my sides and move around just like I do in bed. Pony up for a large Cuben fiber tarp and it the best hammock I have ever seen.
you guys should check out Equip to Endure on youtube. They review alot of outdoor gear. More for bushcrafting but they have several hammock reviews. could be a good market though.
Jared Whalen Just about 3 pounds including the DuroSack, 8 Stakes, and detachable stake bag. You can find the specs here: www.smrgearme.com/buy-gear/nube
The concept is good but.... tarp, rain fly and suspension comes in at over 5lbs. That's a huge problem, there are equally good systems out there at half that weight. The pricing suggests that the hammock itself is an $89 item so the bulk of the investment is in a tarp and bug net... I'd say include the hammock in the $280 and take a share of ENO customers, stay out of the Clark nx270 territory (price wise), which by the way comes in almost 1 lb lighter with the XL tarp...I guess my point is, sell it as a "system" at a "system" price point, don't offer it by itself and then say "oh, by the way if you want the hammock too that's extra". It's just a turn off as a customer to look at "combo" options for something that should be sold together.
you to should team up.. less money more products mayb make this in away that fits the amok ;) that would be PePEPEPEPEPErfect believe me they got the best hammock you got what i can see the best shelter
This is cool, but it is space wasting. That much space above is unnecessary. Instead of hanging your stuff below you, hang it above you to conserve space and keep it away from animals better.
Great suggestion Valdemar Korneliussen! One thing we didn't enjoy about most shelters on the market is the 'sleeping in a coffin' feeling with such a cocoon type fit, or low ceiling. The space inside is actually something valuable about the comfort of the Nubé. We also designed the Nubé to fit two hammocks - Hambunks - comfortably inside (as seen here: www.smrgearme.com/combo-packages/hambunks ) This way you have room for a hammock closer to the ceiling and another just below it. Also, when your gear is just below you, it makes for easy access to your things. It is nice to just easily lean over and see what you need below you with out having to get out of your hammock. We did consider your suggestion during the design/testing phase of the Nubé and all in all, it turned out to be much more functional and comfortable with the Gear Stash below! I imagine, if any Nubé owner wanted, he/she could always easily rig it differently with all the space above! Thanks again Valdemar! Hope you are well!
Sierra Madre Research Personally I like to have my things above me, I find it easier to just take the things down from above, kind of like on an airplane if you know what I mean. Reaching below always makes it risky to fall out of the hammock and landing on thus destroying your stuff. That's how I think about it, anyway.
Valdemar Korneliussen I own this setup. It has two pockets, one on each side to hold the items you use the most. The gear storage below you holds the rest of your items that you hiked in. Minus your huge backpack, the footprint is not big enough but can easily hold the weight though. I load the gear storage with my water bottles, extra clothes, boots, etc. The rest stays in my pack under the Nube and stays dry. I hope this helps explain. You could easily setup a ridge line inside if you wanted. But I never had the need. And never fell out of my paris while reaching for items, and I am new to hammock camping. "new" = 68 straight days of sleeping overnight, hiked back to my house every morning, about 3 miles. That how much I love this thing!
I use that gear hammock with my Clark jungle hammock and Hennessy. Keeps my backpack in arms reach and off the ground which is important to me. The Nube is on my wish list.
@mikey eboy - it's actually a very quick setup due to the fact that your hammock doesn't have to be perfectly centered in the Nubé, to avoid getting drenched (see the extended Closure Sleeves) and it only uses 6 stakes. No the Nubé is made to simply hang at your max reach, no need to go any higher.... Personally I set up my Nubé at 6.5' (I'm 6'2"), and with that setup I can stand up straight inside, fully protected. My wife (5'6") sets hers up at just under 6', and it's perfect for her. Please let us know if you have any other questions @ customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com - we'd be glad to help!
They sure do look cool but you could by 10 of the competitors' products at this price point. I understand that nice things don't come cheap but you can't expect people like me ( a fifteen-year-old) to be able to afford this at a $300 price point. I also understand that I am not your target audience but still something to consider.
Hey Ethan! We wish we could charge less for the Nubé but high quality materials and superior design, cost more on our end. If you ask some of our customers who have endured some stormy nights in a Nubé, they will tell you it's worth every penny. Let us know if you have any questions! Thanks!
Hey @Tom! What do you mean with a design failure? This is not something we have identified. We have had the Nubé for a few years now and our customers have LOVED it! Your hammock can sit as high or low in the shelter as you would like to have it. It is completely adjustable! We are also AVID hammock campers that have done it in every way imaginable and taken our gear through the best testing, personally, to know it will withstand for everyones camping needs. Hope this helps, but please let us know if you have further questions!
Thanks for your contribution to the internet Joseph. Yes our founder did develop the product over a three year period. Yes it takes time to perfect a product and build a business around it. High performance gear takes time and real world testing in numerous environments in order to prove a robust design. In regards to the Golden Gate Bridge: construction began January 5th of 1933 and construction ended April 19th 1937. The first American made suspension bridge was built in 1801 for reference. If there is anything else we can help with please reach out to our customer service department - customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com, they'll be glad to help!
Sierra Madre Research, you forgot that the bridge required thousands of people and the ROI took 30 years. Initial investment was $635 million (calculated for inflation). Your ROI won't take 30 years, and you accomplished your goal with two people and a tiny budget.
I hope to get one of these. It's just not in the budget at the moment :( A cheaper system will have to suffice until I can afford this wonderful invention! I plan on obtaining the Adventura combo pack. I love what you guys do and stand for!

this looks amazing I want one to go camping with, because my small tent won't do for very long can I only order one online or can I get one in stores
Hi Dawson! yes you can order online at www.sierramadreresearch.com!
So this works with any hammock? Meaning it is just the rain fly and the bug shield? If so that is nice especially with the under storage.

did you guys at nube seam sealed the areas all alone the zipperline? i ask because that area leaks water inside and into your hammock?thanks again
Hi George - our Nubé systems come completely seam sealed that the zipperline and at the Sky Hooks!
We are proud of the Nubé's ability to withstand harsh weather conditions and we stand by that as a company :)
nope im good thanks . i was just doing Alittle more research on UA-cam rewiews since there are so much to choose from today
Absolutely! Well let us know if you have any more questions we're here to help!
This is an awesome product but I have some unanswered questions concerning it.
Hey there! We have a good deal of videos to try and help with many questions, but also happy to answer any you have! Feel free to shoot us an email to customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com Thanks!
whats the difference between the Nube shelter and Stratos Shelter?
@Brandon the biggest difference is that the Stratos is a modular system - meaning the Fly and the Insect Shield are detachable and can be used separately.
The Nubé is an all in one shelter.
If you have more questions please feel free to contact us at customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com.
luvin it!!! the only thing i want for my birthday!
Gedavia Kline When's your birthday?!
june 1 why?
I must get one
how long does this take to setup?
We absolutely LOVE this system and have even written a couple blog posts with diagrams of how to set the Nube and hambunks together that also allows for the use of the luggage compartment. Visit: worldgallivant.blogspot.com/2014/10/gear-nube-hammock-set-up-changes-we-made.html to read more about the adjustments we made and how much we love this product.
can't for the love of god access your website. please fix, there are special deals right now
One question will this be customizable?
The Nubé itself is not customizable. However, you can use the Winter Barrier and the Nubé Floor to expand the Nubé's versatility!
What I like about this system the mosquito's can't get at you through the hammock.
You mean like any netted $20 hammock on ebay?
minute: 3:20
Is it convenient and possible to sleep in the hammock for two persons?
Hi Silvan! Its def possible - pending on how much you like to snuggle with the other person :). The Pares Hammock from SMr is tested to 1,000lbs so it can definitely hold the weight. Usually the comfort level goes down after a few hours, because somebody's arm falls asleep : ).
well how did this work out?
The Nubé is coming along nicely! We had a few delays, but we are shipping Burnt Orange Nubés to our Kickstarter Backers now!
what spry should i get to waterproof my nube
***** Hi! if you would contact us at customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com we'd be glad to help you with that!
i got it in green!
Will your system work the Clark Jungle hammock?
jimgam730 we have not personally tested the Clark Jungle hammock with the Nubé hammock shelter, however, it should work just fine.
+Kieran Stevenson Thanks! All of our sales will be in US dollars but the conversion price is about £189 + shipping for the Nubé Hammock Shelter.
And are you able to hang it high in the trees or would it depend on if you could anchor to lower branches?
+Kieran Stevenson Yes but we can't recommend this :)
It comes with hamike right?
You can choose the Nubé alone since it is built to be compatible with other brand of camping hammocks, or you can choose to add on our hammocks.
i cant wait to order one of these for my cross country tripe next month because the eno rainfly sucks
is this compatible with an ENO?
+josh butler yep
I want at least 2
We would love to help! :)
Hi I am very interested in getty one
How much does it cost?
@ Britton, the Nubé is priced at $275 and is on our site sierramadreresearch.com
The link to pre-order is in the description of the video!
Talk to bear grils and have them get that into production!!!
I can only imagine that this would be way over my budget. But good luck to you and I hope you do well. Atb Ron
Nice would want one just like the amok but TO EXPANSIVE for now :)
how much does this weigh?
Jared Whalen Just about 3 pounds including the DuroSack, 8 Stakes, and detachable stake bag. You can find the specs here: www.smrgearme.com/buy-gear/nube
Not a tarp Grim ;) it's a Shelter and it's trail weight gets down to 2lbs 11oz! Oh and it's bomber...
А если есть только ОДНО дерево ????
you to should team up.. less money more products mayb make this in away that fits the amok ;) that would be PePEPEPEPEPErfect believe me they got the best hammock you got what i can see the best shelter
Thanks insearchofenlightenment Nice idea!
Too expensive!
Just re watched could be wrong
It doesn't look like a quick set up how high are tree huggers , to high got to scale the tree every set up not practical
It's not worth $300
Hey Ethan! Top quality cost top dollar! Hopefully you'll see one on the trail or at a hang near you and you'll be persuaded by the performance!
Thanks!
How low it sits beneath the fly! This is a total design failure by someone who doesn't actually go hammock camping.
3 years to build a tarp.. hmm
It took you three years to design and develop this "system"? It took only 16 months to build the Golden Gate Bridge!
+Sierra Madre Research Savage.
Planning and designing the 'Gate took a lot longer. It takes only a few minutes to this hammock system.
