    This was very helpful! Thanks! Also, I am so pleased this was not another Squarespace plug. I am so tired of hearing a 5 minute plug about them in every UA-cam video! 😉

      Thanks Stefan, yeah , not at all. I’ve used them for like 10 years but no affiliation or anything and my focus was to help w tie layout and mistakes people make .

    I like the idea of having different websites for different types of photography. As a student, I feel like maybe I can get away with grouping my favorite types together on one site, but the class I'm taking is trying to help us move ahead with a professional website.

      That's how I started doing it in the beginning, as I didn't have the budget or strong enough bodies of work to have separate websites, and then I just grew into separating the sites and the brands more as I grew. Good luck to you .

    Great Video Justin… I’ve made the decision to completely re-vamp my site this year too - AND I’m going to completely seperate my personal brand and my professional brand into separate websites… Much like the way you are doing things… That way I can shoot and share whatever I want on my personal site - and focus in and dive deeper into my commercial brand/site :) Great video and tips, thanks for sharing :)

      Thanks Grant, share your new set up when it's done I always like to see people's layouts. I went with the landing page having an option for my commercial and editorial stuff for a while but then I sort of got sick of it.

    Thanks for the video, a lot of valuable information and a good reminder for me to stop being so lazy and make the site already.

    All wonderful advice, tips and insight. My only thing is if you were published in a notable place, why not say so? 1 image or 20, they chose it or paid for it and it's yours that you took, so you should be able to say so? I get the part about not lying, but in the cases when it's not, yeah.

    • @AskMOTT
      @AskMOTT  8 місяців тому

      Absolutely , I was saying don’t say you’re a frequent contributor if it was only once or an image was published in a magazine as a stock purchase. I’m just not a fan of people exaggerating with their wording only say frequent contributor if you frequently contribute, otherwise say published in . I see so many people especially in my region BS their resume .

    This is very helpful thank you. You do a great job.
    Bio question. I see your bio is written in the third person. Do you suggest that over the first person? If I’m using those terms correctly lol. Mine is first person but now I’m wondering if I should change it lol
    Thanks dude!

    • @AskMOTT
      @AskMOTT  8 місяців тому

      My pleasure Mike, thanks for taking the time to comment. Man, it's hard sometimes Justin likes to write his bio that way and sometimes I don't :). Ok, kidding aside, since that website and brand is me plus my team I use 3rd person and my Online educational website is more personal I use first person.

    Just like an MIT education: trying to fill a water glass from a fire hose. ;o) Lots of good info, again, and it has helped me clarify a project I would like to do with some local pics I made. And your pics, man, you have the eye for color and composition. Yes, I know take a lot and the chances go up. But that is only a part. You do have the eye for color and composition. All the best. Santa knows where you live so I hope that you and SWMBO made out fine. Cheers.

    One question: I’m an amateur and plan to keep it that way. That said, I still want a website. Unfortunately, there is another photographer with my name who is well established. What would you advise as far as a name? Initials? Something else?
    Thank you!

    • @AskMOTT
      @AskMOTT  2 місяці тому +1

      You can still name your website your name so when epople land tehre it says your name but for a URL I'd try to buy something lie YOUR FULL NAME PHOTOGRAPHER OR YOUR FULL NAME PHOTOGRAPHY OR YOUR FULL NAME VISUALS Or something along those lines.

    Hi Mott,
    1. is it not advised to have different sections for different types of photography to display on a website to express 'type photography one can do or does?? For example event photography, portraits, candid, etc. Just asking a query. As I am planning to make a website for myself own my own, I don't know abcd of website designing being a learner, photographer.
    2. Which one do you suggest to make a photography website on. Be honest. And please don't dodge my 2nd query by saying " It depends on each preference and photography choices ". I am being upright and expect your response, will be a solution to my problem.

    Hey Justin
    I’ve just started setting up a web site again after a few goes over the years. I’m trying squarespace. I shoot wildlife and work in conservation.
    I must try doing a story on the work we do protecting endangered birds. (126 left)
    I haven’t looked at all your vids but if you haven’t could you say something about how you would plan a shoot to get the photos to tell the story.
    Cheers Craig.

      Squarespace ... tried a few others, but Squarespace seems to have it together. It's not perfect, but does the job. Can hyperlink to other sites featuring a portfolio if you want to show more.
