Getting a time below 1 minute is possible, although it's going to be insanely difficult.
My best splits as of right now would give me a time of 1'01"237.
(22"513 + 19"710 + 19"014).
However, none of those laps consists of the best of my ability. I can definitely see it going down to:
22"1 + 18"8 + 18"2 = 0'59"1
(Re-estimated with optimal lottery dive)
An even more optimal strategy would include a suicide. Including a suicide would require really optimized navigation, in order to get just the correct amount of energy before crashing during the final corner. So in theory, a few more tenths can be saved from that alone.
I might attempt to go for a time below one minute in the future. We'll see.

Holy fucking shit. I came. Cant wait for UA-cam to activate 60 fps videos for everyone. Watching this at 30 fps is almost a crime.
Even at 30 FPS you can still see the speed flash at over 4,000 km/h at some points immediately following a shift boost.
I happen to know this trick that makes the UA-cam player work in 60 FPS, but the video has to be made for it. If I were to take footage at 60 FPS and use software to slow that to half speed before uploading it, a viewer could open the options menu and set the playback speed to 2. This doubles the FPS, letting you watch the video at 60 again.
It's a bit of an involved process, though, so I don't really know how many uploaders would go in for it.
Oh yeah I saw Nintendomination's channel use that from time to time. Official 60 fps support is coming though.

TheGoldfish Oddly enough, the same thing for me too. I had SO much trouble with this course as a child. Its even hard to me now, and this guy just destroyed every single boundary of this level on his own.
