It's interesting I can help but have Karen's performance of this pop in my head every now and then. This performance was super memorable. I'm excited to check out the Clark sisters.
Very interesting singer!!!!!!!!!! Her tone is so beautiful, light and agile when rested. However, she takes all times of vocal risks. She has sounds different every time she sings! Whitney Houston and Karen Clark Sheard are definitely the most interesting singers ever.
@@klion3924 eh not Whitney really. Whitney is one of the greatest ever but I wouldn’t say her style is risky or that interesting. Other singers that are daring like Karen would be lashun pace, Vanessa bell Armstrong, rachelle Ferrell, Twinkie Clark, Natalie Cole, Daryl coley, Aretha Franklin
She is one of the greatest singers ALIVE!!!!!! I had the opportunity to meet her and when she opens her mouth, it sounds even more impressive than a recording. The sounds that woman can produce will make you do double takes. She is Gospel royalty and has inspired so many other popular singers after her. Almost everyone in Gospel, R&B, and Pop imitates her sound.
Ok u done did it now. So I'm going to ask you to react to Karen Clark-Sheard and her sisters - The Clark Sisters, specifically "Jesus is A Love Song". The 80s version with the big hair and big shoulder pads. I've often wondered what are doing that sounds so beautiful.
Her mother is who brought 3 part harmony to gospel music. She would wake her daughters up in the middle of the night to rehearse. So yea her and her sisters are just different af.
I'm amped to hear her and the Clark sisters performed. They have been consistently recommended. I have a few videos to edit before hand. The bottle neck has been that I am not used to editing for so long. I just got some Advil and adjusted the lights so I can edit longer 😃
I actually hate the fact that she took the Baritone and bass sections out. Most men are actually baritones and basses. A true Tenor voice is a lil more rare. That’s why a lot of tenor sections sound like dying dogs lol cause most of the men are lower voices. But yes, mother Mattie is a legend in Gospel.
@@dasingaman1 yes tenor voices are less common, but correct me if I am wrong, I thought SAB was when the baritones join the tenors. It's what makes for that massive wall of sound I thought. I'm no gospel expert so I'll take any corrections here.
@@LesageSinging you’re correct. But honestly, a lot of guys are struggling with the higher tessitura. As a Tenor myself, I can hear the difference between what I’m doing and what an actual baritone in the tenor section is doing.
🤣😂 oh, I love you so much… “a lot of soft palate chicanery going on here” 👌🏾👏🏽👏🏽 And you know know who also sings a lot with his tongue sticking out (and I’ve always wondered if he learned that from Karen Clark Sheard)…. Alan Stone! He is a bad bad boy. And he started singing in church, too.
I don't know if you noticed, but watch the moment her sister starts playing the organ (and modulating). That's when you see her intensity change. Also, if you listen very careful you will her sister yell, "Pull" right before she does that big run.
Also that is what you call a gospel mouth lol. All of her sisters have it, they sing with such open mouths which is I feel is what gives her that sound you are speaking of.
She's doing all kinds of stuff haha. The open mouth definitely has its own sound quality, but holy crud she is doing so much to change her sound in the most intricate of ways. It's insane.
Thank you. I love these technical explanations to these amazing and superb skills. She is a vocal master and has one of the best sopranos in gospel. I am no longer religious, but my love, admiration, and respect for Karen Clark-Sheard and the Clark Sisters remains. You should check Nothing to loose from this same recording.
I'm consistently blown away by gospel singers. She's so amazing. I'm boarding a plan atm so I can't write down this request. I'll try my best to remember!
Lesage, you probably get this a lot, but you're a vocal technique genius, the way you dissect and explain what's going on in the body with every sound, and it's not you making it up because when I try it, it works and you've also confirmed things I've discovered just playing around with my voice too. May God continue to bless you with knowledge to help others. I learn a lot from you.
Omg you related to her thank you soooooooo much ❤️❤️❤️❤️ she’s amazing and a lot the artist you’ve reacted to (Beyoncé, Le’andria, rachelle, etc.) has studied her
Karen is literally one of the greatest singers on the planet. The lady is well into her 60’s and still sounds virtually the same. You should check her out when she sings something has to break with her daughter the one where they are wearing yellow
True facts: This was recorded on October 28, 1995 in Tallahassee, Florida. The INTRO was the SECOND TAKE, not the first one. If you need another video to analyze of hers, let me know.
I know I’m commenting mad stuff but I’m going as I go lol but it’s so interesting to me the belting convo, because I’m also an opera singer and I legit had to unlearn so much in high school when I first started seriously training in classical music. While it helped a lot with producing some great sounds, it also made it so much harder on the technique side. Belting to me is like second nature (growing up in church) but man learning discipline of the voice when it comes to classical music was really hard. So don’t feel bad about you learning how to belt unlearning it I promise harder and not fun lol
I read every comment and it's actually my favorite part of this whole UA-cam thing so no need to apologise. Yeah, belting and classical are extremely at odds in some ways. I think it's a great idea to learn both, but it is really hard to find people who respect both; let alone teach both.
Karen is amazing and so is her daughter! Kierra sheard is also great! React to Tasha Cobb and Kierra sheard “Your Spirit”. Two vocal powerhouse with very different timbre.
I loved your comment about tuning to each other on the spot and it reminds me of this particular episode of the Terrell Show, which on its own is an amazing show but this episode is two artists and friends singing in a way that has me revisiting the video weekly. It just soothes my soul, and they tune to each other in such beautiful ways. Candice Boyd's tone literally soothes my soul. Enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/7U1jJ0qRuJU/v-deo.html
Oh my, I was thinking yesterday that the only one of my fav singers that are left for you to react to is Karen Clark-Sheard et voila! Fantastic! Already Jazmine, Yebba, Hathaway, even Rachelle etc done and your analysis are so appreciated. How about some male ones, Allen Stone or Jarrod Lawson for example? As a contemporary voice teacher it is interesting to see through your classical training. Thanks for a great channel!
Wow this was fantastic... Of course, KCS is Queen. BUT I'm referring to the BREAKDOWN analysis. To those of us singers/musicians, we TOTALLY understand the principle of: We are all entitled to our "preferences" (we like what WE like). However, pertaining to varied "levels of vocal skill" is a different story. THIS woman of God is one of the most influential vocalists of the 21st century. Furthermore... it's worth noting that even at age 60, she's able to clear a stage full of singers in their 20s.

Gospel singers have no science to what they do, They sing under the anointing. They usually don't know what they are going to do second to second. The Holy Spirit takes over, Its a real gift.
This was such a great review of the performance. I really enjoyed it. Would love your review of Jill Scott's performance here ua-cam.com/video/8jXfUn6o7Sg/v-deo.html
He skipped right over the fact that Twinkie came and changed the key with the organ. One of my favorite moments
This woman does her OWN echos!
She sure does Lolol
Karen Clark Sheard is one of the most interesting singers you’ll ever hear. Twinkie and dorinda are insane as well
It's interesting I can help but have Karen's performance of this pop in my head every now and then. This performance was super memorable. I'm excited to check out the Clark sisters.

her sister Dorinda Clark Cole.....either Complete the Work or I'm Still Here.....family is insanely anointed AND
.....Karen & her echo effects 🥰🥰
Karen Clark Sheard is a daredevil when it comes for going for notes... she is okay with taking chances
Yup she is the rocket of Gospel, KCS is such a risk taker!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jesus Is A Long Song from Finally Karen. I want to hear your critique of Twinkie.

THE GOAT! 💯
Simply !

Like mother-Like daughter. This is where her daughter Kiera gets her nice voice from.
I have always wondered about her mouth placement if it is purposeful…instinctual, the lisp, the braces…whatever it is, she always is on point!
Also that is what you call a gospel mouth lol. All of her sisters have it, they sing with such open mouths which is I feel is what gives her that sound you are speaking of.

We definitely need more Karen Clark Sheard reviews... she's been singing crazy high
Yeah she what call in the church world a super soprano!!!!!!! She can belt as high as she wants especially when rested and can use her every register.
Has anyone introduced you to KeKe Wyatt singing literally anything anywhere ever for any reason?
Another great one who can really sing anything. They are the 2 most greatest singers ever. I mean singing
There’s no auto tuning in gospel live especially now for the songs These days to get on the radio that’s different

You have to react to gospel singer Daryl Coley. You will be amazed with his vocal ability. Start with "When Sunday Comes".
I recommend Richard Smallwood. He has a background in classical and did gospel
Painting with sound is gospel music as a whole in my opinion.
Omg you related to her thank you soooooooo much ❤️❤️❤️❤️ she’s amazing and a lot the artist you’ve reacted to (Beyoncé, Le’andria, rachelle, etc.) has studied her
Can we add Tonex and Derrick Haddon and Daryl Coely to the mix? Take ya breath away.🙂
Patti LaBelle does the jaw thrust thing too! It has to be responsible for them hitting those notes the way they do.
