Jazmine's ability to manipulate her voice to be able to execute the sound she wants, and to emote whatever message she needs to convey is second to none. She can change her placement, her tone, the purity of her voice, grit like rasp, etc. She has a full arnsenal, and can change the tide of her (vocal) brush strokes to paint any mural she wants.

She's in her 60s and was doing this before everyone on that stage was born and that's why she sounds so different and has so much control! Not only is she the original black Dorothy from the wiz she also had some iconic music over the years. She and chaka Khan just did a versuz a few days ago and in order for them to put her with chaka you know she's somebody and well respected!!!

    Ledisi betta Yodel at 10:02 - 10:04.
Love what you said about nerves, and how some singers start off, so calm, and aren't like, I'M HERE!! Hey EVERYBODY, but like, let me tell you, let me say this to you.
I love when people let their tone do the talking, and doesn't have to resort to high notes, and big booming sounds to be the star of the show. They sprinkle the power around the performance, and builds the song and performance.
Ledisi meant it when she sang, "Stop tryna beeee SOMEONE YOU'RE NOoooOoooT!" 15:47 - 15:56
16:41 - 16:43 part is so UNDERRATED. At that part she was REALLY feelin it, she really was confident in, "YES, I'm SANGIN," "This Feels... good."

    No disrespect
Many that can sing don't always have training. So much of how you break down everything just comes naturally.
    Not everyone
Many don't even here about everything you speak of. The beauty of nature raw talent
I am very impressed in how much you know, interesting.

I mean there’s people who need training which is why he makes these videos. Because people study this stuff and want to know the techniques behind them.

This was great. Just a note on Stephanie Mills… she is Broadway Royalty. She made the move to R&B from broadly with a great career from the 70’s to the mid 90’s. She starred in the musical The Wiz as the original Dorothy in the stage presentation

Love love love your technical analysis of these performances. Jazmine Sullivan is a highly intelligent vocalist. She's a genius at making her voice do just about anything. Love Jazmine and Ledesi (Layla). What you said about how accomplished these ladies are at what they do. Thank you. Masterful control.... perfect explanation. Stephanie definitely has a unique sound, truly gifted

The best advice I wished I had followed was "if you practice with your hands, no amount of practice is enough. If you practice with your mind and body two hours is plenty". Otherwise, just live life and don't substitute music for your person.

COME ON W/ THE “heeeeeeeeeeeee” note😭‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ I love how you can break down the correct vocal terminology of singing! But the thing is black people don’t “learn” how to sing💯, we don’t need lessons! It’s just put in our hearts🅿️❣️

I think that many of the singers that I cover who grow up with and around Gospel singing are steeped in excellent singing. I think that's way more effective than some lessons once a week.

Not always true black artists Also have vocal coaching to help them better even if they have amazing voices. Even if you sang in a church choir you had to practice different notes over and over again until you got it lol

I know you did Stephanie Mills, but you have to do an evolution of her... or just do a segment where you do an evolution of how an artist grows in their art and the changes to their voice and technique.

@@LesageSinging she was the original Dorothy in Broadway version as a teenager. They wanted a "name" for the movie so casr Diana Ross, but Stephanie's version of "home" is still the definitive one.
