Lost track of how many scratch built balsa models I made….would fly them until they were so oil soaked they’d fall apart…lol. Those were the days.
Awesome as always Steve. I started to get into the RC planes before getting sick and all that time in the hospital. I kinda lost the spark but watching this video got me excited again. Just not sure I can afford this one. It's been a rough go lately. My plane is a little banggood special with the rear facing prop and came with a controller but the dream is to upgrade about to something like this.
Sounds like you have the correct plane to get into the hobby.
You might want to check out the UMX Turbo Timber if you're new to the hobby, its a little cheaper and easier to fly than this version. It can still do similar tricks, but just has less control authority, so its less twitchy and less likely to stall. Whatever you do, be sure to practice using a simulator first! There are free apps for your phone that work well to get you used to flying away vs towards yourself.

I was actually wondering about RC planes the other day. As a noobie drone pilot, I know even less about RC planes, so I am looking forward to this series.
Looking forward to the flying series. If you use the same format as the intro to FPV’s it will no doubt be a thorough and comprehensive flying introduction. I am a camera and FPV (DJI) drone guy, no RC plane or helicopter experience. Thank you Captain! 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very nice Capi & you got marbles for a Maiden in such conditions. A gifted Eflite B17 was taxied in the driveway , rear wheel came up & so i rotated ( after 20 yrs of non fixed wings ) before i smacked into a closed gate. Landing was far from stellar but , what a thrill. Long rant sorry😬 but , we all have to challange ourselfs one day or another.
That is what I'm learning... Take offs, and flight are not too difficult but landings are just a controlled crash.

I'm a drone guy but flying wings and planes are my new love now 😁 Carbon Cub S2 was my learning plane with no gyro. After a few crashes I got the hang of it and now I have over 20 planes 🙃

That is a sweet little plane! Used to do planes but never had anything that flies that nice and messing with the finicky gas engines kind of took the fun out of it - and smashed them all didn't help LOL... Really enjoying camera droning - nice pics/video, relaxing flying, can zoom around in sport and just hit RTH when done and have it come back in one piece!

Hi Steve.......Nice little plane to fly. Really liked the flaperon feacher. Was the rudder functional as well? I got my start into the RC hobby flying planes. Used the K&B .40 cu glo plug motor to start out with. I soloed on my 5th flight after 4 flights with a buddy box system. I sure was shaking after the first solo landing.....LOL....Maybe talk about the buddy box system how it's used for training.........Looking forward to this series.....👍
The plane in this video has fully functional surfaces including rudder. The technology today will make your hands shake much less as there are different types of stability assist.

I started with camera gps drones, then went to FPV drones, then went to RC Cars & RC Boats, then went to RC Helicopters & this year I've gone to RC Planes.
Thanks for a great video. I'm new to this and just bought this airplane but not made my first flight with it yet. I have tried to find this model in Real Flight sim 9.5 but haven't been able to find it but do some sim training with similare plane before I do my first test. Looking forward to see your next videos.
If I'm not mistaken, I thought I saw the 2S version of this Timber in the Real Flight 9.5, or my memory is playing tricks on me. Very easy and forgiving RC plane to fly, you'll have no issues.

I’m interested in the long range FPV like the parrot disco type craft ….. something that can go 30km or farther…see things only pilots see but most everyone else doesn’t….

what is the wind speed?
You didn't mention the rudder, do you turn with the ailerons alone or is there a rudder control to keep it at altitude? I did RC planes when they were really expensive, not not in recent years. I do wish they had some form of camera for some reason...
Rudder works as well.

Everything is small on the mini 3. Think of a small action camera, that is what is on the mini 3. On small sensors, like on the mini 3, companies like DJI pack in tons of pixels because people who are not photographers think that more megapixels means better.
Steve I’ve the first umx timber and that’s got flaps I think they should have flaps on this too there way better 👍🏻👍🏻 think I’m getting the dji mini 3 with rc screen I like how you can just turn on and be flying and not mess about with phone 👍🏻👍🏻 aww and do you sell yer stickers but I’m in uk you stay well matey yer sorted 👍
Phil, the Timber X is amazing compared to the original UMX Timber. It has Flapperons (few more flight options with this) and the 3S power turns it into a power house. Mini 3 with RC screen makes life so much easier. Currently I do not my stickers, but plan to do so in future.

What's that weird sound in the last scene? Interference from remotes or motors? Sounds like a poltergeist to me.
That is called “stability”… the plane does not like to be none horizontal and is trying to flip itself horizontal as I hold it vertical.
Anyone have this plane using a Radiomaster TX16S?

I would not recommend this plane for beginners. This plane is really cool as the second plane after you mastered your first one.
Oh, I’m a beginner but I have a drone (camera & FPV background), which gives me an advantage.
