  • Farmers dog is a subscription “unkibble” fresh food service for dogs. Watch as I teach you how to find the important information you need when evaluating fresh pet foods. The increase moisture content can make it challenging to do a good review so make sure to watch these helpful tips and make an informed decision.

      Okay, the math made me dizzy but a great critique of this very popular food. The more hype, the more likely it’s an All Life Stage food. As you said, is it worth the money?

    • @AnimalDocRea

      Thanks! Yeah I figured the math may be a bit much for most but I did get a request for it so I figured I’d show it on video or two and then I’ll just reference it if anyone wants to learn it in the future.

    An update on our 12 year old: Been off the Farmers for over 2 months. Tried Hills z/d for a couple of weeks, no improvement. Later, read a study in Japan conducted on 400 dogs stated, 40% of them did not respond to the z/d diet. Dermatologist vet put her on 4 doses of ivermectin(possible mites), & suggested Purina Pro Plan, Sensitive Skin & Stomach(SALMON formula). Another 3 weeks have gone by, and no more itching/scratching. Was it the ivermectin? Dermatologist found no mites under microscope initially, but said that they usually dont 70% of the time. Was it the changing to the Pro Plan? We'll keep her on the Pro Plan for awhile more, and then plan on re-introducing different foods to nail down her food allergy. Not the Farmers however. Want to see if the z/d(with hydrolized chicken liver) will get her to react, because we're fairly certain she's allergic to chicken(from her younger days). Our regular vet thinks we should just keep her on the Pro Plan and says, "...if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it."

    Not a math person BUT, I liked that you showed how to do it so that I could do it if I wanted to. In my quest to find a food for a new pup
    I will be bringing home and listening to other opinions as well as yours and my pocketbook,
    I think I will be feeding a good/decent mid range dry food and using some fresh food as a topper and switching to healthier whole food dog treats such as sweat potato treats, maybe some dehydrated fish skins/tripe, fresh fruit and veges or even freeze dried fruits and veges instead of things like pepperonis etc. we have giant breed dogs too and to feed them freeze dried, fresh, or raw food would force us to eat mac & cheese every night.

    I am just trying to find a food my dog will eat, extremely picky lab, she also needs to lose weight. I haven't received the order yet but I did the 14 day start. My girl has stomach issues/eating issues/etc...and I worry.

    I would really love and appreciate if you can review Origen Tundra dog food. I just switched my 16 month Japanese Akitas to this kibble and their stool is phenomenal but am concerned about the amount of pulses - tho it’s the 18th ingredient

    Farmers Dog does such intense marketing that I started questioning if that was the way to go for my 2 senior dogs. Thanks for putting some perspective on the fact that it was just marketing. They almost try to instill feelings of guilt if you feed "processed,dry kibble. " Could you review Badlands Ranch dog food? They make such a point of "too high of a temperature that most kibble goes through reduces the nutrient value of most dog food. " Is the guaranteed analysis based on after being processed?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  7 місяців тому

      Yes, that’s why all that processing language is all marketing. The nutrients should always be first, then once you get a good base, add in the other things

    Our 12 year old had a terrible allergic reaction to this stuff, after years of great results from Freshpet. Terminal-itching. Won't go into the details of our story, as I've already done so on "The Pet Food Puzzle Guy's" channel. We also know 3 others, who have had to take their dogs off of Farmer's, for similar reasons. I'm sure a lot of dogs are just fine on it, but ours certainly wasn't.
